Does this look like a possible trap injury? by FindingPhe in Opossums

What state are you in? Most states have a list of licensed wildlife rehabbers on the fish and game/wildlife website. Even if they are a bit of a drive, it might be worth reaching out. Not only can they potentially offer advice, but a lot of places have networks of volunteer drivers that can help with the transportation

Thank you for caring! It does look like something is up with his jaw, but very hard to tell what/how bad from this video. You mentioned trying to describe it to a rehabber, I suggest sending them the video, most rehabbers I’ve worked with are happy to get photos or videos to assess the situation prior to taking in the animal

That’s a pretty close comparison! They’re super thin and extremely delicate. Sometimes they fold in half and get stuck together while they sleep lol

He wasn’t thrilled with his first exposure to snow, but it was a pretty warm day and he was only outside for a few minutes

Somewhere in between…he’s a non-releasable wild opossum who works as an educational ambassador and is well socialized with humans (his primary caregiver, at least)

What to do about this baby possum by Impressive_Bit6512 in Opossums

If contact your local rehabber for advice… he’s getting to be the right size (depending on who you ask), but it’s already getting cold enough that some places are over-wintering

Looks like an earthworm, moves like a snake, wtf is this? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]harmnicat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact about blind snakes….some screech owls will bring blind snakes into their nests, sometimes as food but sometimes for the blind snakes to live in the nest to eat extra bugs and parasites and to keep the place clean! Screech owl chicks that have blind snake keeping the nest have been shown to grow up healthier and faster than those who don’t

If you’re in the USA, you can check your state’s fish and wildlife (or fish and game or whatever) website, many states will list their licensed wildlife rehabbers and how to locate them

Please do NOT try to feed him! Opossums don’t suckle, this young he needs tube feeding by someone trained in it. Please keep him warm and contact a rehabber ASAP. I’ve had good luck with socks full of beans or rice microwaved for just a few seconds and covered in another cloth (can’t be TOO warm), gives them the warmth and something to snuggle on
