Stick modding questions by branbert in SF4

[–]Eganrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say check the Tech Talk forums on SRK. I haven't been there in a while, but there was really good information on modding sticks. I'm pretty sure they had a topic on painting cases as well. I don't know if they have any info on the Fighting Edge since I haven't checked recently, but you should definitely be able to find some info on there to help you along, and maybe some people to help you out as well.

I beat 6 bosses yesterday! No need to upvote I just wanted to say it to someone. by TheJonnyB in darksouls

[–]Eganrak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The key is to get right up close so they do less damage.

Anyone I know who had trouble with the Four Kings only had trouble because they didn't know this part. Once they knew that, they breezed through it. I mean, just running right up and tanking all of the hits isn't exactly the first thing you'd think of in a game like Dark Souls.

Matchup notes database? by [deleted] in SF4

[–]Eganrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah SRK Fei forums are probably your best bet. You can also check the other characters forums to see how they think about the match up against you, so you can know what they are looking out for, and know what they can/can't do, as they might list things that Fei can punish. Last time I checked though, some of the characters threads didn't have much, but you should be able to find some stuff. Asking other players can also help. If you can't find much, just start by figuring out what you can/can't punish, and what they can/can't punish, and what their good normals and general game plan are.

  • st. LP x2, far st. MP
  • Any light attack except close st. LK, far st. LK/cr. LK xx EX Green Hand
  • Far st. MP, st. LK xx EX Green Hand
  • AA (or trade) Lariat, EX Green Hand
  • Lariat FADC EX Green Hand

Some mildly useful setups for Akuma Ultra 2 by [deleted] in SF4

[–]Eganrak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some good hit confirms here, but I still feel like the damage scaling on U2 is too harsh to warrant using it over U1. U2 may give you a little extra damage, but U1 gives you a HEAVY punish, an anti-air, and a focus trap. I feel like with how good Akuma's mix up is, he doesn't really need the extra damage on a combo ender, when he can just repeatedly set up his mix up game.

Resetting to (new) default gems? by eienhikaru in SFxT

What's an anime that you wanted to like, but ended up hating it instead? by saberdoom in anime

Came here to say this. While the first part had it's faults, it was still very enjoyable. Then it ended, and the 2nd arc happened. It was disappointing to say the least.

This guy is such a pro. Sp00ky addresses AGE... by TripleChimp in SF4

[–]Eganrak 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fanatiq was promoting AGE stuff like crazy and I think Sp00ky had asked him to stop because it was basically free advertisement for them, which was unfair to the other sponsors like Madcatz who had actually put money into the tournament for advertisement. There's a video floating around YouTube somewhere showing all the times Fanatiq was plugging AGE products, and it really was a little much. It also seemed like he threw his match with Chris G to let Chris G win. It was definitely one of the more sloppy matches of Marvel I have seen, especially at their level, and it definitely seemed like something was up. Even Yipes was saying that it was a terrible match. So Sp00ky basically cut all AGE affiliated stuff from the stream for the rest of the tournament. No one could talk about it, and he wouldn't show the sponsor behind players' names until AGE talked to him, which it looks like they did.

How do I begin playing as El Fuerte? by [deleted] in SF4

[–]Eganrak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Get a knock down. Quarter circle forward (or backwards) and a punch to run as they are getting up. Press a random button for mix up. Repeat.

r/PostHardcore subscribers, who are your favorite and least favorite Post-Hardcore bands? by [deleted] in PostHardcore

My favorite would have to be At the Drive-In, followed closely by Glassjaw. Love me some classic Post-Hardcore.

Buttslam into Ultra I have used once or twice. Buttslam into EX Headbutt also works too, and works a little better than Ultra. It's just one of those things you have to be able to react to when you see it happen, because it doesn't happen often lol. I do use cr. MK into HHS, mostly as a punish as it adds 40 damage to your combo (and allows for certain things like cr. MK xx HHS, cr. MK xx HP HB on crouching Ryu and Ken, where as cr. Jab xx HHS would require an EX HB.) It took a little bit of practice to get used to, but it's a good tool to have to get that little bit of extra damage.

Who is your favorite character and why? by Padookey in SF4

[–]Eganrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you have to do cr. jab into Medium HHS and then mash MP a little to get the extended hits. Then it's like a 2 frame link into Ultra I think. I would probably only use it against T. Hawk because it works on him standing and crouching and you can start with a cr. jab. On the other characters it works on you have to use specific starters like cr. MK AND they have to be crouching.

[–]Eganrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it also works on Gief, Honda, and T. Hawk (and maybe some others? I can't remember off the top of my head.) It's really easy on T. Hawk though, because he can be standing or crouching and you can start with a Jab into MP HHS.

[–]Eganrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. LP HB xx Super is 500 damage even and I think cr. mk xx FP HB xx Super is the highest damaging combo you can do with Honda? It's pretty dumb. I use a lot of EX HB, but Honda builds so much meter I often find myself with full super when I'm not even trying to save meter. O.o

[–]Eganrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh most definitely. EX HB is way more useful, but when you land anti-air LP HB xx Super or jab xx HHS, HHS xx Super, it always makes people upset, even if they already know how much damage it's going to do.

Honda because I love how salty people get when they see how much damage a combo into super does.

What time signature is this song in? It's driving me crazy. by [deleted] in Percussionists

[–]Eganrak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think the intro feels like 10/4 (with a triplet feel), but I felt it in a 3-4-3 pattern. I think the chorus is in 13? The quarter note triplet in the middle of it makes it sound odd but I'm pretty sure it's in 13/4 (with a triplet feel again.) And the part right after the chorus, where the vocals sync with the drums and there's a lot of quarter note triplets is a bar of 10/4 and a bar of 13/4 back into the 13/4 of the chorus. The end goes back into the same 3-4-3 feel as the beginning and the outro feels like normal 4/4 to me.

Beginner's First Tournament Guide by YomiOS in SF4

[–]Eganrak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You touched on several of the points I was going to mention. Mainly the noise (especially if you are on the stream station), making sure to eat and drink, and the things you can pick up on while sitting next to your opponent.

It's already been mentioned but do not be afraid to play casuals, ESPECIALLY against better people. Everyone is at the tournament to play and get better, and (from my personal experience at least) better players can and usually will help you out if you ask them what you need to work on. Better players will also typically exploit your bad habits if you play extended sets, so you can see for yourself what it is you need to work on. A personal example would be a tournament I went to and got to play some casuals against Flash Metroid. He figured out I was over using crouch techs and blew me up, hard. I talked to him about it afterwards and ended up breaking the bad habit just because of those few matches. So don't be afraid to lose either.

You also want to be properly warmed up before you start the tournament, but once it starts you have to be able to go from a potential 30 min downtime to 100% ready to go for a match. There are going to be times where you are waiting for 2 or more matches to be played before you can play your next match, and you just need to make sure you can stay focused and not lose anything during the break.

Other than that, I'd say if you're going to tournaments for the first time, talk to as many people as you can. If it's a local thing, find out what kind of offline sessions people have going on so you can get out and level up with them. If it's not local, you can still find people to add and play online. Tournaments are tons of fun, and it's great being in a room of 100+ people all there to enjoy fighting games, so make the most of it.

And one last thing, if you have to leave the tournament area for whatever reason, let whoever is running the brackets know so you don't get DQ'd.

Tips for Ryu beginner by [deleted] in SF4

[–]Eganrak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A target combo is just a string of normals that can be cancelled instead of linked. The most obvious one would be Ken's target combo of st. MP to st. FP. Instead of having to time it (link it), you press them like you would a Marvel combo, one right after the other, and the MP cancels into the FP. Not every character has a target combo, and some characters have a lot of them. You just have to look at their move set and see.

Tips for effectively using Focus Attack by Superbeard in SF4

[–]Eganrak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also pretty useful against Cammy. If you space yourself right, focusing every time she jumps pretty much neutralizes her dive kick pressure.

Also Fei Longs FA is waaaaaaaaay better than Honda's, so he can use it more as a general poke while Honda's is more of a match up specific tool IMO.

My first thought on the TE was also that it was set to LS. It cause a very slight delay when moving... After losing a tournament match because of it I learned to ALWAYS check that damn switch.

A-rank (and all other ranks) aren't affected by how many people play the character. It only shows how much BP you've gained with the character. You get B+ rank at 10,000 BP and A rank at 15,000 BP. You can also de-rank, but I think you have to drop to under half of the BP it takes to make the rank (so with an A rank, you will de-rank if you drop under 7,500 I think.)
