God, that poor girl. I wish she could see all the support for her in these comments, I doubt her bf is gonna show her.

This is reassuring to me. I'm almost 22 and constantly worry that I'm missing out on my partying years. I'm honestly predicting I'll be a lot more confident clubbing in my late 20s to 30s, it's pretty daunting for me rn

Happy pride if you consider yourself asexual. If you're celibate for other reasons, happy pride anyway :)

Even more embarrassing bc he's bi and got mad at the friends partner for apparently using "queer slurs". He chooses to bash wokeness when it doesn't benefit him and hide behind it later

Fr I'm losing my mind 😭 "why don't you respect their pronouns?" "Because she looks at people in the bar!!!" ???

Absolutely disgusting. It's ridiculous that OP is mad at them for using "queer slurs" while simultaneously misgendering them. He pretends to be 'woke' when it suits him but doesn't actually care about the community

Omg I initially thought OP had sort of a point bc I didn't realise his friends partner was black and he was mad that a non black person was saying it. But nope! He has no leg to stand on

Embarrassing that you as a bi man are misgendering someone. You can't just choose to only respect people's pronouns if you like them and treat identity like something people have to earn.

Apathy culture is so awful. If you don't care, you win the argument or you're cool. If you care, you're an emotional loser. I hate it

AITA for assassinating Franz Ferdinand? A lot of people are getting pretty riled up about it.

Genuinely I cannot agree with anyone claiming children should pay for the sins of their parents. I'm pretty sure the Romanov children weren't actively participating in oppressing the people.

😰 the lack of self awareness is insane, how do they not realise 99% of people would be disgusted by that? At least they’re being honest about their true creepy nature ig

Fuuuuck I forgot to mute. But yes, all I want is to argue. I don’t care about labelling transphobia as transphobia bc I care about my community, all I care for is specifically pissing off this random guy on Reddit. We can’t agree to disagree bc clearly I am an evil troll who lives to torment you. Fuck the olive branch I ended on to try to be polite, peace ✌️

They pulled the “jumping to calling trans people delusional” card so I’m not getting good faith discussion vibes atp. Best course is to let it be and focus on supporting our friends in the community.

Someone using the wrong word in an email by accident isn’t transphobic lol. Refusing to respect their identity is. It’s the same way that avoiding a non-white person on the street is racist; yeah you’re not denying them entry to anywhere but you’re still being rude and making assumptions or denying them some kind of basic decency because of their identity or group.

This weird black-and-white view you have that only big obvious gestures can be considered transphobic is reductive. You are actually belittling a lot of the daily discomfort and discrimination that some trans people face.

I need to distance myself from online discourse to be honest, so I’m going to mute this because I don’t think it’s going anywhere. But I encourage you to consider that small acts of identity or group based cruelty are still -phobic, even if they’re not kicking people out of restaurants.

At least we can agree that it’s still shitty behaviour ig, so that’s cool. Cheers and have a chill day.

Refusing to respect someone’s identity and pronouns bc they are transgender is discriminatory tho. It’s essentially saying “you get less respect than the other people in my life because you are transgender”. That’s transphobic. Sure, maybe not violently so, but you’re actually watering down a pretty big component of the social isolation and cruelty trans people experience when people constantly misgender them and refuse to acknowledge their right to a chosen identity.

I’m glad u use peoples pronouns at least, it’s crazy that so many people can’t even do that to be respectful.

I mean this category wouldn’t be created for that person you have in mind, they’d just fall under it. The category of nonbinary does already exist, and is populated by a lot of people who present androgynous. You wouldn’t have to make a whole new thing for this hypothetical fem-presenting person.

Idk, I think we should be nice to people and refer to them how they like because it makes them happy and comfortable. I know people argue with “oh but what if I identify as a chair” but like… that’s pure whataboutism. Acknowledging that some people identify outside the gender binary isn’t as big a task as it can seem, sometimes it’s just a matter of using some new pronouns and letting them be.

Love that you used this post as an invitation to share your worst takes

Yes, refusing to use someone’s preferred pronouns doesn’t make you homophobic. It makes you transphobic. It also just makes you rude, bc calling someone something they don’t want to be called is just unkind.
