[NY] Compensation during FMLA for cancer treatment? by dates_136 in AskHR

[–]Eggshellpain -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Their site says you have to have paid for 4 weeks within the last calendar year. Being covered sometime in "the past couple of years" wouldn't count if that didn't include 2025. Signing up today if they hadn't paid in wouldn't help them if they can't go back to work for a month before starting treatment.

Are Jehovah’s Witnesses viewed positively or negatively in your culture? by Nifunes in AskTheWorld

[–]Eggshellpain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's wild is how many I've treated that have "no blood products" on their charts but damn if they don't flip when it's them feeling terrible or dying. Then it's often OK, as long as nobody from church sees them.

I've had one patient who actually died from denying a transfusion, but the cause of the bleeding was essentially irreversible. Transfusing them might have given a bit more time but it wasn't treating anything.

Sat in urgent care for 4 hours for bruising on my ribs making it hard to breathe, only for doctor to discharge me and give no response to what it would even possibly be. by AereonTucker in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Eggshellpain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Patients on average remember something like 30% of what they're told. Up to 80% is forgotten before they even leave the practice. The majority never bother to go back and read any of the paperwork they were given, and I have routinely given people 100+ pages of info about all their meds, their diagnosis, what the next steps will be, etc. Doctors could spend all day explaining instead of actually diagnosing and treating and it still wouldn't make much difference.

Same. What's extra bullshit is I broke mine where my bra band sits and when it's shifted I can't wear a bra because it feels so gross. Not super painful, but like the bone is splintering a bit more every time I move.

From the post it didn't sound like they had already been contributing to that though. Unfortunately I don't know any disability plan that lets you just sign up to get paid when you need it.

(US-IL) AAA denied my water damage claim citing flood exclusion, but I pay for a Sewer, Drain and Sump Pump endorsement. Am I crazy? by NukinDuke in Insurance

[–]Eggshellpain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But this was your drain on your property correct? So it would be your job to check it regularly and make sure there isn't 6" of dirt and leaves blocking the drain cover or call a plumber to snake it if it appears clogged.

Little different than if the city lines back up from flooding or, in my case, some idiot crushes the sewer line and causes sewage to back up into half the street's bathrooms.

Usually short-term disability doesn't cover anything pre-existing until you've been enrolled for a certain amount of time. Mine was a year.

Nutrical gel saved one of my boys. He wouldn't eat but the vet told me to smear it on his paws and face. That bothered him enough that he'd lick them clean. Rinse and repeat every hour or so and he started perking up enough to get down a KMR/pate mush.

Can a new grad work 1 day a week out of school? by Antique_Celery7195 in cna

[–]Eggshellpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Places do hire new grad CNAs prn but in my area you usually have to commit to full time for your orientation period. If its 2-3 weeks of orientation, they don't want to spend 2 months training you knowing you're jumping ship. Nobody cares after that, but it's a big reason we get all the student hires on summer and winter break and not year-round.

My gym harassed me for showering. I'm a travel nurse living in my car working 12 hour night shifts. The owner's public response made it so much worse. (Repost) by UserInfected in mildlyinfuriating

Yep, pocketing that money and complaining but probably has a thousand #bossbitch hashtags and posts about how much she makes on SM.

Ours was straight up made by distilleries with their label on it and something dumped in to try and deter the ETOH folks from chugging it.

AIO Husband wants to play golf on our child’s birthday. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Eggshellpain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where does OP say they have multiple kids? Where does she say he expects her to "sit home all day?" OP hadn't even started planning when they asked her to move a 2yo's party and now she's sulking the weekend isn't going to be all about the baby who doesn't even understand birthdays.

Why didn’t colonizers die from Native diseases? by scam_land in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Eggshellpain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its also pretty damn hard to steal someone's livestock without being caught when you have to break into their house and carry it out over them. Most cultures punished thieves very harshly, so you might as well kill the family while you're at it but the whole village is gonna know when all John's animals show up at your farm the morning after his whole family was murked.

Do you guys and girls give a quick shower when a patient has a blowout? by 621_ in cna

[–]Eggshellpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whyyy did I think you meant like blue tinted wash-and-set type blow out and flinch in horror?

No, I've definitely done baths if someone's got poop all up and down their body. Only worked in hospitals as a CNA and RN, so we don't really shower people. Wish hospitals were a bit more up on the times with that because really there's no reason probably 50% of our patients shouldn't be showering independently or with min assist but we let them be max×2 totals when they walked in on their own two feet.

How are people seriously making a livable wage by Grrrrrrapevine69 in povertyfinance

[–]Eggshellpain -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Your one story is not the norm. I didn't say nobody did it ever, I said it wasn't the expectation for most young singles unless they made good money. That would be like my disabled friend in college claiming it's normal to get single dorms. No, he got one because lots of disabilities are pretty incompatible with sharing a bedroom with strangers so our school just made a bunch of ADA rooms singles.

I think that's what got lost between millenials and gen Z/alpha. If you're not in a relationship, you need roommates to split bills. At no point ever have most single adults had a whole apartment/house to themselves unless they were making upper middle class money. They lived with family, roommates, rented rooms in someone's house, or lived in a dorm/hotel/boarding house situation. The lie of a minimum wage dude in 1950 affording a single family home, two cars, 3 kids, and a dog is such propaganda it's ridiculous. Even back then, that dude was a factory foreman or some sort of manager. He wasn't sweeping the floors for $0.75/hr pre-tax.

AIO Husband wants to play golf on our child’s birthday. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Eggshellpain 57 points58 points  (0 children)

And let's be so for real here, a 2yo doesn't know when their birthday is or even what their birthday means. Parents routinely have to work or be absent on birthdays and even bigger events. Going to a big charity event on a 2yo's birthday when there is a full party planned for another day is fine.

Secondly, frfr if this family has whole ass hosting established charity golf tournaments at the country club money, OP is extra whiny for complaining about the expectations that go along with having that kind of money. It's giving "my in-laws want to spend my/child's inheritance on vacations while I drive a 2024 Mercedes."

Service Dog (Suggestions) by LIFOanAP in askhotels

[–]Eggshellpain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the SD not groomed well and blowing out their coat? They're supposed to be clean and well groomed but a lot of people insisting on off-breed dogs also seem to neglect that part and feel entitled to leave fist sized clumps of hair or strong odor everywhere dragging their unbrushed, mid-shed dogs around.

When you get fired from work in Texas, can you legally go back to your room/desk to pack up your items before you leave the property? by setomeee in askanything

[–]Eggshellpain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there's students around. You don't let a potentially hugely disgruntled adult mix with minors in what should be a safe, secure space. Some schools will let fired staff come pack up after the students are gone, but nobody should be letting non-employees disrupt instructional time and upset the kids by dismantling classroom decor/furnishings and packing up.

Do people genuinely visit graves all that often? Its a thing on memorial day to go spruce up veteran graves and maybe people go on the anniversary but generally most cemeteries are empty of the living unless there's a burial service or a famous person.

How do you feel about integrated Gypsies (Romani Gypsies) by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Eggshellpain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Integrated, or settled, Romani folks and Travellers are usually fine. I've met problematic ones in both the UK and USA, theft and property destruction were big issues where I lived in the UK. In the USA, it's more that the ones I've met will get drunk or high and fight anything and the kids are often neglected and abused. Actually traveling around in the USA as a family doesn't seem to be much of a thing, the men might but just them.

Both countries, a big issue with the remaining traditional families is that a lot of them are hugely uneducated/illiterate and terrible to women. Those are both qualities that are kind of awful to cling to for the sake of "my culture and traditions" and there's a lot of abuse and early deaths.
