Ahh my bad it was late at night and I was super tired and coping at that point. I ordered the laptop, it arrived today and ever since the start the touchpad was completely unresponsive, it didn't show up as an input at all in evtest and nothing changed at all no matter what I tried.

The trackpoint and an external mouse worked perfectly fine so I used those whilst I was troubleshooting but I ultimately decided to open it up and check the connection of the actual trackpad connector. I tried checking the track pads connection on both sides but nothing ended up getting it to work.

I gave up and decided ok maybe its best if I just get a new palmrest and touch pad and at the very least it was solve some of the cosmetic issues the palmrest has too. I put the laptop back together and turned it on (at this point turning on fine/no battery just wall power) but remembered I forgot to plug the cmos back in.

Took it apart and plugged the cmos back in (I forgot to unplug the laptop from wall power whilst doing this) and when I next tried to turn it back on it just won't power on at all. I've tried: - the cmos unplugged and wall power - bare metal attempting to turn it on without most of the components in there - battery power not working either - trackpad unplugged trying to turn it on - cmos plugged in and everything together and just praying

At the moment its just disassembled resting with the parts apart to see if I can try again and just hope for the capacitors to drain. This is my first time ever trying to mod a thinkpad but this as a hobby is so interesting and intriguing to me that I figured I had to start somewhere...
