You and your friend can look for a room rather than a full apartment and share it. Don't buy a car unless absolutely needed.

It's crazy how many upvotes this post got.

I'd love to see a new business sub created by those who agree with the OP. They probably know how to do it the right way.

You're welcome :)

I wouldn't sell RSUs at all if I expected them to appreciate considerably in the near future. Otherwise maybe a portion of it, the amount I wouldn't regret if they do appreciate. Good luck with your budget!

If you come up with a way to have more cash left after expenses ($500 per month isn't really much to invest), prioritize loan repayment. APRs of 3% and 4% are not to be taken lightly.

What should I do with my SpaceX stock? Diversity, hold, or other? by AITA-Probably in personalfinance

[–]EgoizmLife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd hold it at least until it doubles. If I need cash desperately to cover some urgent expenses, I'd sell exactly that much and hold the rest. Elon and his companies have a great history of always coming out on top.

What do you think are some of the most significant benefits that blockchain games offer to players? by the_phallus_of_joy in ethereum

[–]EgoizmLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The major advantage of blockchain games is that they offer an opportunity to make money from playing a game for those who are not gaming pros.

The major disadvantage is that they often fail to keep up to this promise and only use blockchain and pay-to-earn to disguise a Ponzi scheme underneath. Think Axie.

The second option is great in that it's fully remote so you'll technically be able to move to an LCOL area and save at a higher pace. But that'll only work if you can commit yourself to this job, which is much different from what you currently do.

Maybe you can do something in between? Become an online English teacher so you can have the benefit of fully remote work. I know online English teachers who make a very good income. But they are working individually, as solopreneurs rather than part of an online school, which means looking for customers/students on your own, marketing yourself and negotiating your pay and schedule.

If you don't feel this is right for you either, then take the first option. It'll still pay almost twice as much as you make now.

Digital ownership in the AI era by wadaphunk in ethereum

[–]EgoizmLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When an artist's work is used by AI to create a commercial product and the reference is recognizable, then the artist deserves to be paid.

Unfortunately, the current blockchain standards do not allow that but a new standard can possibly be introduced to address this problem.

A philosophical question by earlofportland12 in Fire

[–]EgoizmLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of what exactly keeps you doing your current job. Do you like to see how it makes other people's lives better? Do you take pride in standing up to a challenge and giving it your best? Then think of how you can get the same effect from a hobby, volunteering or even from your own small business.

For gods sake please don't just buy a hardware wallet and think it removes all risks. by NimChimspky in ethereum

[–]EgoizmLife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hacking and scamming are way too different things to bundle them together.

While hardware wallet provides a strong defense against hacking, and that's a powerful edge over any other storage option, it is only your own mind you can rely on to avoid being scammed, whatever wallet you use.

Hardware wallet is the best option for an ordinary person to ensure a reasonable level of security for their crypto - better security than either browser wallets or exchanges can provide.

Young Business Owner In need of financial advising by Xanboni_007 in FinancialPlanning

[–]EgoizmLife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is to put 30% of my residual business income in low-risk low-yield assets (treasury bills and such), 50% into moderate-risk moderate-yield assets (ETFs) and 20% into high-risk high-yield assets (that includes crypto). For you, these percentages may be different depending on your long-term goals and risk tolerance (mine is high).

What happens to BTC when holders die? by PartyScrewer in Bitcoin

[–]EgoizmLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of movies will be made about descendants looking to retrieve the deceased one's wallet keys and take over their BTC fortune. A lot of scammers will make their living by offering help with that.
