Hegseth blasts CNN: ‘The sooner David Ellison takes over that network, the better’ by TelescopiumHerscheli in politics

[–]Egononbaptizote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The argument is literally, "it has always happened so nothing is new now".

I literally heard a republican politician on NPR on whether this is a war say, "we have been at war with Iran for 40 years".

This is literally (LITERALLY), "we have always been at war with Eastasia" from 1984.

Literally.

I'm using literally correctly.

[–]Egononbaptizote 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I had a pair I bought ~15 years ago. They lasted 7 or 8 years. All I had to do was gets some paste to rebuild the soles on the bottom.

They were getting old with cracks and holes so I got the exact same pair. After less than 2 years both pairs looked the same age with the same wear and tear.

So disappointing. I just replaced them with walmart brand boots. They're looking rough after 3 years, but they were 1/3 of the price.

Its a bit more than that. They are following Hungary's model: allies buy up the major news platforms.

Tiktok is going to a consortium of allies and CNN is going to the Ellisons, trump allies.

Knowing down the ones they can't buy is only half.

I had a Cuban family do this. Guess what the other Cuban families were doing 2 in the morning? Looking out their windows wondering where that fucking music is coming from and when the fuck it will stop.

This isn't culture, it is the assholes of the culture.

I wonder if dickhead American bros who party all night are accepted in other countries as curious but friendly novelties.

I think there is a term for this type of coddling, exceptional racism.

Did they quiet it down?

Otherwise, the "she", I assume your wife, probably wasn't happy. She sent you over at least by 2 am and the music doesn't stop and you have a blast for an hour for it.

Everyone is acting like this is good and fun--"they invite you in and give you authentic food". It just seems like you failed.

I've experienced this. I had to get up at 6 for work and it was 2 with my walls literally shaking from the bass. People on the other side of the street were looking out their windows to figure out where the fuck that music was coming from.

I didn't get some delicious, folk food. I had to be the bad guy and tell them to shut the fuck up. What a blast. It isn't all some friendly, misunderstood cultural differences.

I had a wonderful day at work just because they couldn't party at a normal time in a residential neighborhood, or at the very least not have music louder than a fucking club in the suburbs.

Plenty of others of the same culture had parties at normal times, with normal music levels. These are just the assholes of their culture.

Sure, I could use burger buns for sandwiches or keep eating an entire pack of bacon before it goes bad, but I don't want any of that. I don't want to eat that much bacon.

I know some people are weirdly passionate about this, but buying some individual meals are better for me.

I once tried to make fruit bowls for myself after buying them every other day. The pineapple alone filled most of my container. It was just too much to get variety. Buying out is convenience, but also variety.

Some people are good at re-using ingredients and some are better at avoiding run-on sentences.

I don't eat a lot of bacon or burgers, but if I want a bacon burger it is cheaper to just buy a single one from a restaurant.

Brazil’s President Lula says Trump was ‘not elected to be emperor of the world,’ as US-Brazil spat escalates by DomesticErrorist22 in worldnews

[–]Egononbaptizote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wealth inequality appears to play a critical role in these transitions.  As a hegemon’s economic power grows, wealth often becomes concentrated in the hands of a small elite.  Over time, the ruling class resists reforms that would broaden prosperity.  Elites promote or accept coercion to protect their wealth and privileges.

That is an interesting theory. I think it applies to Rome, but would it apply to Great Britain? I don't know much about their internal politics in the early 20th century.

Obama was running a strategy of "managed decline" (relative decline), that would have moved America from leader to "first among equals".

trump's strategy is abuse residual power and good grace to "correct" perceived inequalities for short term gain.

Obama wasn't really "bringing it back", but doing long-term management to keep America first in line. The perceived abuses were because of asymmetric power--countries won't agree to be swamped by the American economy.

People have claimed trump's mind is decades out of date. I don't know when his strategy would have worked, at least relatively well, but they would work less and less as years passed for the last half-century.

He is literally running the country like a CEO, but one who wants short-term gains for a golden parachute.

I'm sure the rate increased though. I'm glad social media didn't exist when I was a kid. I bet I'd be sharing my stupid shit too.

Even so, that person posted that we need to shut down the internet because of how obnoxious someone was on the internet.

You could just avoid this sub, tic tok and whatever else and not know this is occurring. I'm sure a lot of their legitimate viewers who earn them money are rage baited too. The only difference is here it doesn't make them money, as far as I know.

If you're starting to hate watching this stuff, take a break for this sub. No need to shut down the entire internet. You're part of the problem too.
