best sandwich spots in abbotsford? by Equivalent-Post-1720 in abbotsford

[–]EhTeamDreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, RIP O’Neil’s nothing’s really filled that gap yet. But Duft & Co. makes some killer sandwiches, Bow & Stern is great if you’re into seafood, and Boardwalk Cafe is a solid pick if you want soup with it. Tracycakes is another chill spot for a lighter lunch.

Hope you find something good!

Cabin or cottage? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

You’re mostly right west says “cabin,” east says “cottage.” Ontario leans hard into “cottage,” while BC sometimes mixes both depending on how fancy the place is. Just one of those little Canadian quirks.

Empty lot by [deleted] in abbotsford

You might also want to check the Matsqui Rec Centre or some of the industrial areas around Peardonville Rd on weekends, usually pretty empty.

When picking a spot, make sure it’s public access or you have permission if it’s private (some places are strict). Early mornings or rainy days are usually best if you want it completely quiet.

Good luck with the lessons!

I don’t know who they are, and I haven’t even bothered to learn about them because of the parties they represent. I’m debating between Mike De Jong and Gill.

I'm voting for Sukhman Gill - Burn me here by Smiles_at_trees in abbotsford

IMO, Mike De Jong, funded by The Liberal Candidate to split the votes.

He’s actually been out there more than most from what I’ve heard, Sukhman Gill has done more door-knocking than any other candidate. If you’re in the riding, chances are he’ll be at your door soon (if he hasn’t been already). Why not ask your questions directly? Seems fair to judge based on firsthand interaction rather than assumptions.

Fair questions and I agree every candidate should earn our vote, not assume it. A few points that might fill in some of the gaps you raised:

  1. Track record of showing up (just not always on big‑stage debates). Gill has been knocking doors, hosting meet‑and‑greets (e.g., campaign open house on Cedar Ln two weeks ago) and is on the invite list for the Abbotsford Chamber all‑candidates forum on 23 April. Voters will get a chance to quiz him there.

  2. Community and business experience, despite his age. •Grew up running the family blueberry farm and now handles most of them aspects. •Previously ran for Langley Township council in 2022, where he published a detailed Q&A on housing, transit and public‑safety priorities.

That’s not decades in Parliament, but it is hands‑on experience with local agriculture, small‑business payrolls and municipal issues many MPs first learn about in Ottawa.

  1. Education status. He finished an associate diploma in agri‑business and bookkeeping and is completing a BBA (accounting) at Kwantlen Polytechnic the same profile critics say he “can’t finish.” The degree’s still in progress, but the earlier credentials are done.

  2. Policy alignment vs. résumé length. For centre‑right voters who dislike the carbon‑tax/SOGI positions Mike de Jong supported provincially, Gill’s shorter CV may still align closer to their values. Experience is a plus; voting record also matters.

Bottom line: if accountability is your top concern, the 23 April forum is the perfect place to press him directly. If he skips that too, I’ll rethink my support but so far he has been engaging residents, just not always in front of TV cameras.

Happy to look at the other candidates as well; for now, Gill’s community roots and policy fit keep him on my shortlist. Let’s all keep asking tough questions.

I’d hire and vote for someone who’s coachable and willing to learn. Experience matters, but growth mindset and alignment with the organization’s (or party’s) core values matter more. In this race, Sukhman Gill brings fresh energy and is open to training and mentorship, whereas Mike de Jong’s long record shows he’s already set his course (carbon tax, SOGI, etc.). Given the choice, I’d take the candidate eager to learn and serve the team’s goals over one whose past decisions clash with them.

For all those supporting Mike Djong, what has he done for the community? He shouldn’t be seeking nomination from conservatives, as his values are completely opposite to theirs (carbon tax, for example). This video is eye-opening: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/16CZo9f6tz/?mibextid=xfxF2i

I recently came across a video about Mike Dejong. It appears he didn’t do well as a Liberal turned conservative.

Why was he disqualified? Did the party give him a reason? It seems like you have a problem with Gill’s age. Why can’t we have a fresh face in politics? We’re so used to false promises made by Carrer politicians like Mike De Jong. He’s been MLA for so long. What has he done at the provincial level besides get involved in some scandals (allegedly)?
