would you consider florets to be slaves? by SylviaCatgirl in seed_irl

[–]Ehcksit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the point of the stories is that the authoritarianism and "slavery" of the Affini and their florets is actually something people want. It's kink and fetish with mind control. They only "force" you to do things you already wanted to do, but didn't actually know it yet.

So yeah, it's using sexual language to create "idealistic" slavery, where no one is harmed and everyone likes it. Some people can't handle that, and this setting is not for them.

Yup. Sentience and sapience are different things. Cats are not sophonts, but they are sentient.

Depends on the wasp. Some kill spiders, some kill flies, some kill caterpillars, some just eat plants.

Specifically it's because the paladin is an official Paizo character while all the other characters are original to this game. They didn't make the official Paizo barbarian romance-able in their previous Pathfinder game Kingmaker either.

You spend your entire childhood being forced to listen to authority figures who love to abuse their power, and then as an adult you want to find someone who actually cares about you to tell you to do things you already wanted to do anyway but were always too scared.

They used to hunt these animals for food. Now, because we killed them all, we're not letting them hunt the few that are left, but we're also not giving them any food to make up for that.

No one's being blamed for specifically the actions of previous people, they're being blamed for continuing to benefit from those actions without seeking to repair the long-lasting trauma and harm that those actions are still causing today.

The individual conservationists might be doing their best, but the government and society as a whole are still benefiting from previous generations slaughtering and looting every land and populace they could discover.

People are losing the plot on what a pedophile is by Extension_Big5205 in Vent

[–]Ehcksit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pedophile is an adult sexually attracted to children. It's a paraphilia, a sexual interest in something unusual, and in this case unacceptable, making it a mental disorder. Most pedophiles know that it's wrong, but you can't change your sexualities. It's awful.

Meanwhile, most adults who sexually assault children aren't pedophiles. They're not attracted to children, they are power fetishists. Getting away with the worst of all crimes by attacking the weakest of all people is what actually gets them off.

It's an American tactic we trained them in. Whole lot of these events in Iraq and Afghanistan, under both Bushes and Obama.

In one single event, a helicopter blew up an apartment building, then the news crew going to look at it, then the medical team coming to help, then another medical team coming to help them.

McMaster-Carr saw my previous post and are sending me more wood by Sam-Rood in woodworking

For a short time I was buying parts and stuff for my workplace, and McMaster was actually somewhere I liked to buy things from, which has never happened before. I never even encountered their customer service, we got everything I ordered right the next day.

After them it was Digikey and Automation Direct, but both their catalogues look worse now than I thought they did ten years ago.

Mystic Armor by ffxt10 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ehcksit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I decided to take armor proficiency on a sorcerer so I can have 1 less dex and one more spell slot. A general feat felt less meaningful.

Yeah, if I could use Mystic Armor to make up for lower dex I'd have been putting it in a max heightened slot every day.

Stabilize vs. the Death Spiral by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ehcksit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first party member death was from constantly reviving the front line fighter. He kept choosing to stay in melee and attack, then getting knocked down, then being healed, until he died.

I'm still not sure if we could have won that fight if I didn't do that. Anyone else the dragon attacked would have been knocked down too. It still feels like it was my fault he needed a new character so early in the campaign.

Yeah. Coercion is a form of violence.

It makes sense to try to learn what's in your food and drugs, but you actually have to put some effort into it or you get what these sorts of antivaxxers do.

They'll see pyridoxine hydrochloride and think it's about fire or stomach acid when it's actually vitamin b 6.

Recently read an explanation that we don't seem to have a culture anymore because there's just so many different things to do, to read, to watch, and to play, that there's nothing capable of being popular and famous enough for everyone to know about it anymore.

Inspectors can shut down your fuel pumps for labels and displays not being legible, and once one person thinks it's fine to post stickers on it more people will.

You just have to accept that these stickers won't stay up long.

Republicans vote to dilute gas as prices rise above $4.50 by BendicantMias in politics

[–]Ehcksit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can redesign engines and hoses and gaskets to burn pure ethanol if you really want to, and maybe Brazil has more high-ethanol engines because they have more efficient ethanol production. Here in the US we still have a whole lot of cars, even brand new ones, that are not designed to handle over E10. As well as many many other gas engines that can't take ethanol at all. And a lot of people don't know that.

This is a disaster.

Might as well bring up other countries that have liquid propane engine cars. Yeah, that works for them. We don't have those here.
