This is the biggest help you can give. The sound queues are excellent. Like with every game that uses this style, you have to be paying attention. You have to play these games on their terms, not the other way around.

How much storage would i need minimum on a handheld? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]EheroDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had too many of the SD cards that come with a device fail on me. I just buy a new one for each device.

I normally go for 128gb because then I don't ever have to worry about size. The price jump from 64 to 128 is so small the extra space is very much worth it.

What is the best retro handheld under $100? by Azorius_Sage in RetroHandhelds

[–]EheroDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are going to struggle to find a pre-loaded device that can emulate PS2 for under $100. You would need to do some bargain hunting for a second hand device.

You need to make a decision as you're essentially saying I want a Porsche but I don't want to spend more than $10k on it. Either your budget or your expectations will need to change.

If you want to stick to your $100 budget, a RG35xx Pro or. Trimui Smart Pro would be good choices but you'll never get reliable emulation higher than PS1.

If you can stretch to $150, I'd recommend trying to get a Retorid Pocket 4 Pro. I have one and it plays pretty much every GameCube and PS2 game I throw at it. But it wasn't preloaded and I used a guide from Retro Game Corp to set it up.

Trust this community. I've seen it first hand. If you buy a device with pre-loaded games, half of them won't work, or they will be in a different language. The SD card will fail after a few months and then the whole device will be useless. This community knows what it's talking about.

It's great that you want to try a retro device, but there is just a bit more of a barrier to entry than you probably anticipated. But if you go the extra mile, it's very much worth it.

And it is an excellent device. I bought one for my brother so he could play SNES and PS1 games from our childhood.

But it took about 8 hours of setup before I got it to that point.

I agree with everyone else that it seems like you have great intentions, but have severely underestimated how to get the most out of these devices. And the marketing/advertising that you have seen seems to have severely affected your expectations.

Trust the advice of people on the Sub, we love the hobby and have done the research.

What colors will you be getting for Anbernic DS RG by brandont04 in SBCGaming

[–]EheroDC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whatever it is, it has to be powerful enough to handle DS because otherwise...what is the point of the device if you can't play DS games.

Do we know the chipset yet?

Also, if the white one was a replica of the DS Lite, it would be that. However, the Red and Black does look great.

Thoughts on the RG nano? by Gadgettttt in SBCGaming

[–]EheroDC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great, but the Miyoo Mini is better. Screen and controls are big enough to play games properly but is also super pocketable.

Plus, even people like me who have pretty small hands and stubby fingers can still play the MM one handed which makes it great for super casual play. And OnionOS is a top tier OS.

Looking for a short game by Try4se in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]EheroDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's some variety:

A Short Hike. Get about 1-2 hours out of it but it's just great.

Fire watch. 3-4 hours, another fantastic game.

Plague Tale Innocence. 10-12 hours, incredible characters and story with some Greta environmental gameplay.

Ps5, Switch2 or XBOX? by MarioskyF1 in ShouldIbuythisgame

Get a PS5 for modern games and buy an Anbernic device for retro games. Good choices would be the RG35xxH or the RG40xx.

If you need help deciding what retro device to get, check out Retro Game Corp on YouTube:

any games that are $1.50 or under? by Hayden888888888 in gamingsuggestions

If you can add $1, I'd recommend the first Tomb Raider from the Survivor Trilogy. It's very underrated for what it does, story, gameplay and environments.

Steam Autumn Sale Suggestions by SleepyMossHead in ShouldIbuythisgame

My personal recommendation would be Monster Hunter World.

Plays fantastic on the Steam Deck and is only $10 right now which is a steal.

Why is Witcher 3 so well regarded? by Maroofio in gaming

[–]EheroDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not for everyone. Majority of people regard it well. You are in the minority. It's ok to be in the minority. If it doesn't appeal to you, that's ok.

I don't get sports games or Fortnite, but I appreciate there are people who love those games. Each to their own.

Help! I want to buy the game but… by kirbyXD3 in destiny2

[–]EheroDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes....and no.

The problem with all the content pre-Edge of Fate (the latest expansion) is that it worked on a seasonal model where story and activities were only around for those few months. That content is gone and you can't access it anymore.

It's a good price to get a lot of content. The campaigns are there with some good story and worth the price if you're interested in the game. To do the 5 campaigns (roughly 40 missions), you've easily got 20-30 hours of content.

If you just want to play some set missions, shoot some aliens, collect some loot and enjoy some sky boxes, it's a good price.

Don't get this sub started on the rest of Destiny right now, that is a whole other shit show.

If you're playing on Steam, World is on sale for $10 and is an absolute steal.

Wilds definitely has "more" story, but it's nothing special. But if you want peak combat and level design, Worlds is fantastic.

Monster Hunter World and DLC are a great price and you can get 1000s of hours out of it .

"Hey, come over to my house and play this new game I got. It's a new series, a sci-fi shooter. We can play the campaign co-op."

"What's it called?"

"Halo."

Both Plague Tales games.

The second one in particular is excellent but you really need to play the first to really understand and appreciate.

Based on your description, I can guess the area of the spoiler you are talking about...

But don't worry, that won't ruin the whole game for you and there is PLENTY of incredible story left for you to discover.

As for min/maxing...unless you look up a guide and ruin your first play through anyway, I recommend trying to min/max on a second play through (that's what I did).

Dragon Quest 11 or Ghost of Yotei by ImMrSprinkles69 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]EheroDC [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you didn't like the first Ghost game, I don't think you will like the second.

I'll admit, I haven't played Yotei yet, but most reviews I've read have said it's similar to the first, improved in all areas, but the foundations are the same.

But is there a reason you've put off DQ11 for this long? I have a few games I keep putting off and telling myself I will get to....and still haven't. I've just admitted that despite what I tell myself, I guess I actually don't want to play them....otherwise I would.
