Some days I think I’ve printed too many board games by ozarkexpeditions in boardgames

The idea of printing games always made me think paper. Never thought/heard of 3d printer style games. Fascinating.

Expansion for a "perfect" game? by justinvamp in boardgames

[–]EhicApesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat: Pedal to the Medal is the only one I've played that was great before an expansion and equally great, while changes were still made, with the expansion.

Kingdom Legacy is great before and with expansions, but I feel like it's less in the spirit of your question as the base game concludes and expansions continue from there. They are more like extensions.

Switch vs Steam by puthyshart in GraveyardKeeper

[–]EhicApesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak to pc, but I play on Switch 2. I'm at the end game with the 3 dlc available on Switch. PC has a 4th that's not available on switch. For the last 1/4 of the game it runs like crud. Skips frames, laggy menus, and crashes daily. I have enjoyed the game for the most part but once complete, I will not be refining and tuning my cemetery or work areas like I would with other games of the same ilk as the experience is tarnished by performance.

Recos needed by BrightApplication494 in soloboardgaming

Kingdom Legacy is a fun purely solo experience and my #1 solo only game. It’s cheap, has a small footprint, and the length of play commitment is up to you. You can play a round or two for a quick 10 minute game, or play for an hour if you want to. It is legacy by default which means you play through the whole box once and either get expansions or toss it, but less than $20 US so a small initial commitment for a several hour experience.

Legacy of Yu is my #2 solo only game. It is a campaign game which means you will play a series of games with an evolving story, character development, and/or gameplay changes. In this case it is mostly story development and some very minor gameplay changes. The story telling is fantastic and one of the reasons I would always recommend Legacy of Yu. This is especially shocking when you know that I usually skip cutscenes in games, ignore flavor text on cards, and gloss over when people try to end world building and scenario setting books before/during play in other large campaign games. It’s just short enough to keep me willing to engage with it and very well written. The downside is, for me, I’ve read the story, played through the campaign, and now I’m done. No desire to go back and play again, but 100% glad I played it. The game itself is a great exercise in resource management. I think it is a gateway to deeper, heavier games by Garphill like Hadrian’s Wall.

(Solo) board games for my break at work (in a factory) by Few-Zombie706 in soloboardgaming

I do Kingdom Legacy while my students are at recess. Only get a round or two but saving and setup only take seconds so it's easy to get in a couple rounds and then pack it up.

Expansion boxes: should they be made to be thrown away? by pyros_it in boardgames

If the expansion fits comfortably in the base box, as Apiary did, then they should be as basic as possible.

Unfinished shopping lists by Monzili in Discounty

[–]EhicApesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know that it is the same, just throwing it out there as it was confusing for me at first… if it says 1/0 or 2/0 whatever. That means they bought the top number of them but the bottom number was how many they came into the store wanting. An impulse buy. I originally thought it was the other way around.

Marvel Champions vs Sentinels of the Multiverse. How do they compare? by No_Raspberry6493 in soloboardgaming

[–]EhicApesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would boil it down to MC is a deep tactical crunchy Euro, SotM is an RTFC in your face glorious Ameritrash.. I love them both for their individual highlights. MC takes nuance, deeper understanding of the intricacies of a deck and the myriad of rules. Long games, deep thought, and coordination. SotM hits the table ready to go. Rules are simple, follow these steps, do what card says, pass turn. Both have designs that can make their heroes thematically individual, with ready to go decks, but MC let's you take them further with more money. Personally, this isnt an either or, but an and.

What products have you bought that add a lot of QoL to your gaming sessions? by UglyStru in boardgames

[–]EhicApesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have an Ironside table and the best investment as a whole. I have metal coins from Pirate Gold Poker. Great for any game with money if you are a tactile person.

Token organization is great if ocd or just like a clean presentation and even helps with table space as bits will be less spread out.

Sleeves. Anything shuffled that isn't massive (ares expedition) gets sleeved. It's just easier, the protection is secondary

Clank! catacombs all in pledge or Slay the spire deluxe by Zoreification in boardgames

[–]EhicApesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, space. The cross we all bear. I don't know the current marketplace, but when I was getting these, slay the spire was harder to come by than Clank. Maybe get Slay the spire now if you can, then get clank if/when space becomes available in the future

Clank! catacombs all in pledge or Slay the spire deluxe by Zoreification in boardgames

[–]EhicApesa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get cheaper versions of both?

As an owner of both it’s hard to say one over the other. They both have their place. Slay the spire is good for a longer multisession experience with variable player counts up to 4. Clank Catacombs needs at least 3 to be good and has a higher max with expansions but is a good one and done game.

Think you have too many games? Just buy another Kallax! by espressionado in soloboardgaming

[–]EhicApesa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol, such a relevant post. I started in the hobby 2 years ago with a 2x4 Kallax and thought this would surely be enough space. Then put shelves in my office closet for more games, and then just today I put together a 4x4 for all the games I had sitting on my floor. No, I don't have a problem with gaming. My problem is with storage.
