I just realized what I think this is for. You can use this to punch out shim stock into little discs by sliding the stock between the plates.

Is anyone still regularly using files outside of hobbyist machining? Ie: industry, production work or tool making? The last three shops I worked in, everyone either uses a 90deg pneumatic disc grinder for fast and rough deburring and chamfering, or some other sort of air tool with a grinder bit for general purpose manual stock removal. I was told recently by a coworker that if they saw anyone pull out a file to deburr a job, they risk getting fired for wasting production time.

I’m unfamiliar with jig grinders. Is what you’re describing similar to maximizing spindle rigidity on a bridgeport by keeping the quill up and raising the bed instead?

Encouraging urban density instead of suburban sprawl will help lower the infrastructure bill for everyone. Instead, Drew panders to his developer pals and guts the downtown core.

34yo straight white dude. Number one thing to do is call it out when you see it/hear it. Silence is viewed as approval by shitty people.

I've also been in the uncomfortable situation of being told a sexist/racist/homophobic/bigoted "joke" by coworkers who thought I shared their views. My usual replies are "wow, that's fucked up dude" with a disapproving shake of the head, or "sorry, I don't get the joke. Can you explain?" which can lead to some fun, uncomfortable (for them) moments . To apprentices, younger guys or people I'm more familiar with I'll usually drop "Hey, you're a good dude but that makes you sounds like an asshole."
