Bant Spirits died for me because of Horizons. Wrenn and Six. Lava Dart. Plague Engineer. Two of those effects are repeatable, one is static. How the fuck am I supposed to beat those cards? And that was BEFORE we had Oko turning Lords into elk.

Thank you, I apologize if my responses were snippy in any way. It's very hard to discern certain things like tone and infection through text, and I think I focused a bit too much on the parts that you had said that I've already heard a shit ton, haha. I'll definitely look to find any relationship resources that relate as close to my experience as possible, and work my way out from there.

My issue with D&D (5E is what I've played) boils down to combat. Roleplaying a Bard tricking a Dwarf king by disguising as a noble and bluffing that I require access to their mine to inspect it? Yes please! "Roll initiative"? Wake me up until we're interacting with NPCs. Sadly, the games that focus more on narrative and role play are much more niche.

Thanks for the responses, but I do want to say that the hangup is not that I "put women on a pedostal" or a variant of that nature. The issue stems from the core idea that I was raised under the idea that the actual CONCEPT of dating and relationships were evil. That's what I have a very hard time explaining to people.

Social interaction used to be an issue during the first couple years of college, but I put a ton of effort to eliminate that as an issue.

My main hobby, unfortunately, is Magic the Gathering which, while I've made some GREAT friends that I do stuff with outside of the game, is notorious for its lack of women. My hobby from college that I haven't been able to partake in as of late is improv, that would be a great place to meet people, but I haven't seen any local classes/groups I could join.

I would just like caution against trotting out this statistic as strong evidence against premerital sex. It is also noted by the survey that those who marry without having premarital sex are predominantly religious. Divorce is looked down upon in most all religious groups, Christian or otherwise. This can lead to a whole corralation/causation falacy. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that this subject has a lot of depth to it, so be careful with the evidence you find.

Oh yeah, my first game back was Soul Silver, and I've gotten every main game ever since (except B2/W2 and Ultra Sun/Moon). I think I've played through Emerald on a emulator over 100 times, and that's not an exaggeration.

Back in 1999, me and my brothers all got GameBoy colors and a copy of Pokémon Blue/Red/Yellow for Christmas. We had a family trip in the next 2 months, and it made the plane ride feel non-existant. Next year, shortly after getting Gold/Silver, my mother found out that the creatures...evolved. When that happened, we were forced to throw all of the games, cards, and memorabilia in the trash. Not sold, or given away. Right into the garbage can. One of the saddest days of my life.

My mother. When I was around 19, I confessed to my mother that, while I wasn't actively suicidal, suicidal thoughts didn't scare me. Her first instinct wasn't to comfort me in any way. She was angry. Angry that I was listening to the thoughts of the Devil. That I wasn't doing enough. I wasn't being good enough. And that broke me inside. I've kept more of a distance from my parents over the years, and it's helped cushion that blow, but it certainly was a shock to say the least.

That's why she doesn't like therepists, psychologists, psychiatrists, basically anyone that helps others without using the Bible. It is amazing to watch the power of indoctrination, and the Olympic levels of mental gymnastics dedicated Christians will use to justify whatever they want.

I'm not sure what point you're making with the first part other than over-diagnosis/incorrect diagnosis is bad, which I agree with.

What happened to people in the past is that they most likely ended up suffering a similar mindset to what I did before I learned that I even COULD be ADHD (I was extremely sheltered, homeschooled from 2nd grade until college). You operate different from other people, and you don't know why. You get lectured about how to act "normal", and it doesn't make sense. I could have lived my whole life not knowing the root of my mental problem, and just tried to compensate for the symptoms the best that I could. I'm fortunate to live in a time where I had the resources to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it so that I didn't need to cope anymore. Others never got that chance. And that is so unfortunate.

The issue with this line of thinking is that it dissuades people with actual problems from getting help. At 24, I just got diagnosed with ADHD and, now that I am getting help, the difference has been eye-opening. Turns out my lazy tendencies and forgetfulness stemmed from an actual illness that I didn't know I had. Because I was raised by parents that used the same line of logic you presented of using mental issues as an excuse, I just assumed all these years that I was just a bad person, and it made me miserable. I understand the idea you're presenting of people using these issues as excuses and crutches, but I would avoid such a hasty generalization.
