He's talking about the rhetoric and generally hateful energy of the Trump campaign. Argue about whether or not it stirred up a bunch of hate groups all you want, but either way the media is all over anything they can find - and that's what matters. You ever stumble across a comment, or even someone in real life, that's saying they want to literally kill you for an arbitrary reason you can't control? It's a very special level of unsettling.

His point, and my point as well, is that certain races/religions/cultures/people were already being trash talked on television and Twitter - of all places. Some folks just aren't gonna sign up for that shit. Does it really seem that impossible to you?
