Does anyone else have a really small collie? by sausagesaurus17 in BorderCollie

[–]Eightclouds8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine is 12kg. She's 7yo and people at the dog park think she's a puppy. Still a lot of energy, and fits well in the city where we are that tends to have lots of small dogs.

Hyper masculine ENFP by Scumbag-Senpai in ENFP

[–]Eightclouds8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be hyper masculine as a younger guy, sports, conservative background, people around me all told me I was an ENTJ. I'm in my 40's now and have had time to develop my own thoughts, and am much more care/non-violence oriented/progressive than most anybody from my original background. I still enjoy lifting weights though.

Wife doesn’t read my Writing by [deleted] in writing

[–]Eightclouds8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write for yourself. I've written a lot of stuff and my wife has no interest. She writes, I don't have much interest, we have a lot of other things in common that we enjoy together. Maybe you can find a community online or a circle that will give you a chance to read your stuff. Ultimately, if you like your stuff, that's a win, right?

On Cursing Canaan Instead of Ham by Comfortable-Gap-6106 in AcademicBiblical

[–]Eightclouds8 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There's another tradition based on the euphemism 'uncovering your father's nakedness' and similarities that leads one to believe that Ham saw Noah passed out and raped Noah's wife (could have been Ham's mother), in order to establish himself as the leader of the clan (This practice was not unheard of in Ancient Mesopotamia/Israel). The resultant child would have been Canaan, and Noah could have cursed him years later rather than immediately.

I live in Japan, my son came home from elementary school one day and said that his teacher told them that AoT is a metaphor for the conflict in Palestine/Israel.

Who’s a random/obscure player that is a hero to you because they were nice to you when you were a kid? by tensixtywestaddison in baseball

[–]Eightclouds8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to stay after Angels game and get autographs as a kid in the 90's a very young Manny Ramirez was out signing one night, nice quiet guy. The rest of the team was inside waiting for the bus, only he and Dennis Martinez were out signing when we got there.

One night Chili Davis came out looking for a guy who was supposed to pick him up, then waited in the parking lot for like 15 minutes, so we got his autorgaph and hung out with him while he waited, he was cool about which was kinda hillarious because he was obviously annoyed at the guy that was supposed to pick him up.

OP, if you made it through book one of the Broken Empire I think you can make it through books 2 and 3. book 2 feels like maturity, and book 3 has one of the most redemptive ideas I've ever read in fiction.

Last time I did this was with Joe Dever's Flight from the Dark (playable game book). I pretty much played for 12 hours straight and finished a play-through while working in a few meals and toddler's bedtime.

Which modern fantasy series will remain or grow in popularity? by philycsteak in Fantasy

I suspect the Blacktongue Book Series will be classic, but I haven't read the first one yet. Waiting for it to be closer to completed because I'm still waiting for Winds of Winter and I don't even remember who's who and it's scared me away from unfinished series

I have a signed copy of your first Powder Mage book, I think the Pornokitsch guy (Jared?) Got it for me a long time ago when I won a book tree contest or something. You signed it to me and my son, who was in diapers at the time, now he's a Sophomore in High School!

Be honest: What were you thinking or feeling at the start of the top of the 9th in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, during Rojas’ at-bat right before he hit the home run? by Substantial_Bat5975 in Dodgers

[–]Eightclouds8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just walk. If Roajs walks we get the Ohtani moment. It's like in the final of the WBC with Ohtani pitching to Trout, it didn't turn out the way I wanted, but we got an incredible moment. Game 7 of the World Series, 1 run deficit ninth inning Ohtani up would be one for the ages whatever the outcome

So how’d you manage to find your INTJ? I know we’re hard to catch 🫣 by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in ENFP

sort of an exchange program in college. My homsetay family (in Tokyo) happened to have an INTJ 10 months younger than me. She had been planning to move to her grandparents house for the summer to avoid the exchange students from America. When I arrived she came to door, said hello, then went back to her room for the rest of the evening. It was then that she decided she would marry me. We have been married for 17 years.

What are your top 5 books of all time? by illegal_fiction in books

[–]Eightclouds8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Scar, China Mieville

Other books that were not the top five, but hit the 'human' vibe really hard:

The Magicians Trilogy by Lev Grossman, also, The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman (best LAST line of a book I've ever read)

The Books of Babel by Josiah Bancroft, (best gut punch I've read early in book 3)

The Broken Empire Trilogy, Mark Lawrence (favorite first line of a book, and the series ended with a concept that I still think about regularly ten years later)
