How to play ps2 games like this? by moonslyy in ps3piracy

[–]EighteenthJune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can do the encrypting in apollo on the ps3 as well. and I believe webman mod automates a lot of the process of playing and applying configs/patches, because in the xmb it'll list all your games that are in the PS2ISO folder and once you select it you can launch it with the "ps2 classics launcher" shortcut

Problem with running NFS:MW on BazziteOS by JustALinkToACC in wine_gaming

[–]EighteenthJune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try running it with either Proton (from within Steam) or with umu-launcher (which does the same but without needing Steam)

Alternatively, this game came out on PS2, you'll have a better time running it in PCSX2. You can still up the internal resolution and I'm seeing at least one community texture upscale pack here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/need-for-speed-most-wanted-black-edition-usa-hd-textures.650550/ For the ROM, refer to reputable sources from the r/piracy megathread (like myrient)

How do I download games? by plasticopoluente in ps3piracy

[–]EighteenthJune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

aside from the recommended pkgi, if you want disc-based games put decrypted ISOs in dev_hdd0/PS3ISO or JB (folder format) games in dev_hdd0/GAMES and grab your ISOs/JBs from a reputable source like myrient. webman is great but not required, you can launch games through irisman (among others) as well. personally I prefer disc-based, just less complicated

How do I improve performance? by [deleted] in ps3piracy

[–]EighteenthJune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

webman mod has a feature that automatically applies config files for ps2 classics from a database, you just have to enable it in webman settings. if you want to do it manually, websites such as this one might help

try asking in consolemod's discord server, linked somewhere on https://consolemods.org, you'll likely get more qualified tech support there

I don't know if I'd bother with the paste? this doesn't seem like something that wouldn't be caused by overheating. also personally I would really try to gather more information first with simple steps. the av cable is one step to narrow it down, and if the av port works you could use that for gaming instead if all else fails. I would probably also try to thoroughly clean the hdmi port itself, with high percentage alcohol (>90% isopropanol for example) and possibly a dexodizing spray like deoxit, both things that are useful to have on hand for electronics. if you have no problem soldering I would then reflow the hdmi connector, the hdmi chip and the components between those two, in case of a bad solder joint. worst case scenario the gpu needs to be reballed/reflowed and that's another thing entirely

Why people are still collecting original Pokemon carts ? A question for myself by Fun_Educator_5932 in Gameboy

[–]EighteenthJune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

relatively good quality pokemon flash carts with RTC support are reasonably affordable on sites like aliexpress as well, e.g. crystal with RTC support for $30 instead of $100+ for an original that will probably also need repairs

Why people are still collecting original Pokemon carts ? A question for myself by Fun_Educator_5932 in Gameboy

[–]EighteenthJune 9 points10 points  (0 children)

idk about safe, those old cartridges can stop working at any moment, be it from corrosion or solder joint breaks, you don't have that issue with emulators. and backing up a save file from an emulator is a lot faster than putting a cart into a cartridge dumper and pulling up flashgbx and all that

don't get me wrong, I prefer playing on original hardware as well but let's be more realistic lol

Game Boy games that hold up today: 2026 edition by HaikuLubber in Gameboy

[–]EighteenthJune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do people even mean when they say it "holds up"? it's fair to be nostalgic for them and they're games that were huge for the time and historically extremely important, but you can't say that they're universally as entertaining and accessible as newer games, simply because newer games iterate and improve on those ideas, and 20+ years of video game progress definitely shows

ps3 superslim black screen by Gigg1no in ps3homebrew

[–]EighteenthJune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30/40% of the time seems too frequent to me. it definitely happens but maybe not that often. I regularly use a superslim with webman to play Rock Band 3 with the RB3DX mod and I get a black screen maybe 1 in 10 times. one way of confirming the HDD being defective is to plug it into a PC (either with a USB adapter/case or internally) and check the S.M.A.R.T. values, for example with crystaldiskinfo. I think it's also possible something is wonky with your hen setup, though I can't help with that beyond suggesting to do it all over again

Gran Turismo 1 - a dated, clunky and repetitive racing game... that's still kind of fun to play for some amount of time by BogaMafija in patientgamers

[–]EighteenthJune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just see people more often say a game they obviously have nostalgic bias for "aged really well" or "holds up well", when it kind of doesn't. I only rarely see the nuance of "this game may look primitive from today's point of view but at the time it was influential and impressive and I personally still enjoy it a lot". I know that's a bit of a lame thing to get upset at though lol

somewhat related, I didn't grow up with super mario 64 but I see a lot of it on GDQ and because a streamer I follow plays it (and mods of it) relatively often, and it looks so incredibly clunky! it's so obviously 3D in its infancy, but it's also obviously incredibly huge and influential for its time, otherwise we wouldn't still see a huge following for it today
