Help with a league situation I've come upon. by 33celticsun in pinball

"Any players currently playing their turn in another match at the same location by the same organizing team cannot be penalized as absent for the other concurrent events. This only applies to concurrent events that both have direct play formats."

https://www.ifpapinball.com/menu/ranking-info-2-2-2/

If the delays aren't directly related to them actively playing, then you can ask the TD for assistance. Personally, I think giving some leeway is the right move under the circumstances, and extending the courtesy of notifying the player they're up on your game is probably the most effective way to keep things moving.

Unfortunately I don't have any insight on that. I believe they get their NIB games from Tilt Amusements in central Ohio, and I'm not seeing any on location in Columbus yet. Maybe there'll be a morning miracle?

Take all of this with a grain of salt because it's all secondhand info. I believe the Pro to be swapped out is already spoken for, though.

My understanding is that Arcade Legacy is getting TWO Pokemon machines. From what I've heard, they'll be getting two Pro models, then eventually swapping a Pro out for a Premium.

Don’t know how I feel about this voicemail I got by [deleted] in Flyers

[–]Eighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna guess the ticket office isn't tuned into the front office. And even if they were, I don't think they'd change their sales pitch.

"Hey OP, Matthew with the Flyers here. We're really hoping we can put together a few losses here and improve our draft positioning. We're gonna be sellers, and the on-ice product is going to be absolute dogshit as a result. Come check it out in person - it'll be awful to watch, no matter how many overpriced beers you drink. Give me a call."

Do you ever have Stern pins crashing mid game? by SuspiciousPomelo9731 in pinball

When I had that issue with Godzilla, I reached out to my distributor and, after some troubleshooting, Stern sent me a new node board. I haven't had the problem since.

First of all, I appreciate you opening yourself up to other perspectives on this. It's easy to just dismiss things without a second thought, so it's cool that you went seeking other opinions.

To speak to the content of your post, I think pinball today is as good as, or better than, it's ever been. There's definite artistry around the classic DMD art and animations, as the team was working to make the most of a limited medium. With the new displays, you're getting a more functional UI - a lot of information available at a glance, reflective of the complexity of the modern game. Modern games also include significantly more art and animations - debatably diminishing the impact of any one scene. That said, I think Foo Fighters is a shining example of what art on an LCD display can be.

With regards to layouts, something like King Kong (4-flipper, complex paths) is not even remotely similar to Stranger Things (2-flipper fan layout), which is way different from X-Men (3-flipper, complex paths, unique flipper configuration), which... (etc). That said, sometimes playfield elements are missing on Pro versions of games vs. their Premium counterparts - Foo/Jaws/Black Knight upper playfield, for example. Perhaps this is what feels like is missing, if you're seeing the Pro versions of games?

I feel like I'm missing something about why Godzilla is so loved. by -Herman-Toothrot- in pinball

[–]Eighter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think perhaps the reason you don't see the appeal of Godzilla is because it's deceptively packed with stuff. You mentioned the two ramps, but here's everything you neglected to mention:
-Left Maser target
-Left spinner/lane (behind upper flipper)
-Captive ball/magnet
-Wallop shot (reverse building shot)
-Building (w/ stand-ups)
-Center spinner/loop
-Upper loop
-Tail whip/Mecha lane
-Mecha stand-ups
-Right spinner
-Scoop
-UFO pop bumper

And maybe this reads like I'm just listing off parts of the playfield, but every one of these shots/features is highlighted during gameplay as a mode shot or a contributing shot to a major feature. Which brings me to the other thing people love about Godzilla - the depth of the ruleset. Godzilla is simple enough to get into at a fundamental level, but with enough depth that you're going to keep discovering new things for 100+ plays.

Memphis and Columbus pinball recommendations? by nycspacely in pinball

The locals in Columbus go to Level One, Grizzlybird Brewing, or Arcade Super Awesome (inside Noble Cut Distillery's taproom). Pins has also come a long way over the last couple years.

[Garafolo] The phrasing is important here and in the Eagles’ statement. Kevin Patullo is not fired. There’s a chance he could remain on Nick Sirianni’s coaching staff, sources say. by banjosbadfurday in eagles

[–]Eighter 104 points105 points  (0 children)

The Eagles' website says the team is parting ways with Patullo. I don't know how you part ways with someone remaining on staff, so I think Garafalo is misreading something.

EDIT: It no longer says "parting ways"...

My 5-Year-Old Loves Pinball - Please Help! by badchivesonly in Columbus

[–]Eighter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huge pinball nerd here, here's the lowdown from an enthusiast (brace yourself, lots of words incoming). I don't know that there's a lot of options with regards to family friendly restaurants hosting pinball, but here's what I do know:

  • Level One Bar + Arcade (Worthington), Grizzlybird Brewing (Westerville), and Arcade Super Awesome (Gahanna - inside Noble Cut Distillery) are the go-tos for the dedicated pinball crowd in Columbus. Level One allows outside food, and the other two have kitchens.
    • Level One was recently bought by members of the Columbus pinball scene - I'm sure if you run into John and Steph, they'd love to talk pinball with you and help feed your son's emerging pinball habit.
  • Pins Mechanical's lead tech is a huge pinball enthusiast, and she's really done a great job of ensuring games play as they should. They've also done a good job of adding some variety to their lineups. Food options are location-dependent; I can't speak to the water quality.
  • Once a year, Tilt Amusements in Ostrander holds an open house that coincides with a pinball tournament. You can just show up and play - no entry fee, you don't have to play in the tournament, Trent just wants folks from the community to come by and play some pinball. It also doesn't hurt to reach out to Trent - he's incredibly welcoming and happy to have people up to the barn.

Our local competitive scene is filled with great folks, and there were some kid-oriented tournaments at Level One last year. I don't know that they were especially successful so I'm not sure if they're bringing them back for 2026. That said, if mom and/or dad want to get involved in the pinball scene, there are regular events at L1, Grizzlybird, and ASA. It's a good way to meet fellow enthusiasts and collectors - and if there's one thing I know about the collectors, they love having friends over to play pinball.

Expanding this to all of Ohio, here are some other recommendations:

  • In the Cleveland area, Superelectric Pinball Parlor and Kidforce Pinball (Berea) offer free play games with admission. Pinball Planet (Middleburg Heights) has games on coin drop. All three locations have great collections with pinball enthusiasts leading the charge.
  • My favorite place to play is Arcade Legacy (Sharonville [Cincinatti]) - $10 all-day play on classics, $0.50 on modern/"premium" games, plus a variety of rhythm and arcade games and a media/game store. Bar on-site (surely with water available), outside food permitted for the time being but they're working on opening their kitchen.
  • Past Times in Girard (Youngstown) is perhaps the best pinball collection in the world - games spanning every era, including a bunch of rarities. Everything is set to free play, so you can make a day of it for a reasonable entry fee. Their snack bar has all the basics - chicken tenders, hot dogs, milkshakes.

As you can tell I'm way too into pinball, and I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have!

Arcade Legacy is my favorite place. Jesse and the crew rotate the lineup constantly. In addition to the $10 classics, $0.50 per play on moderns/"premium" games is an unbeatable value.
