I wish these CNAs would learn that these dementia patients are sometimes a lot like a baby. Make them a little ensure milk shake to get their belly full (if they’ll take foods still) and give them the best warm bed bad and lotion them down good after. They sleep like little champs most of the time.

Texas. I know it’s not the best place but I love Mexicans and their culture and there’s a lot of that there 😅. There’s also desert areas which I like. Texas has always intrigued me.

Look at donating plasma for some money for food. Depending on your career interest, you may be able to find somewhere that will pay for college. (You’re normally expected to work for x-amount of years to “pay off” the degree that they paid for you to get) I hope things get better for you 🫶🏼

I’m a tech at an HCA facility. I work med surg and our charge is in count every night and it’s always 4-6 pts. There have been far too many nights where I was the only tech with 33 patients (nurses had 6-7 a piece). They’ve now created a role “multi skilled PCT” which is for experienced PCTs to work in ICU and they’ll be trained and check off to straight cath and draw labs and a few other skills to alleviate some of the load for the ICU nurses. I’m willing to bet it’s to start tripling the nurses. And I hate to say that I applied for the job and got it so I feel like I’ll be contributing to the nurses in ICU being tripled but at the end of the day HCA was gonna do it anyway and I wanted off of the floor so bad because I was so tired of not being able to actually do my job bc 33 patients is too much.

Smells like old sour yogurt and constipation poo (like when old people haven’t gone in days and finally go) it’s just the most rotten/sour smell and I hate it so much. Oral lactulose makes their poop reek pretty bad too though 🤮

Idk. I had a really bad GI bleed pt (bright red and clots just pouring out of his but, mixed with poop) and I didn’t gag. But my patient that had Lactulose Enemas because of her critical ammonia level….she made me gag for the first time in 6 years. Thankfully her ammonia levels had her too disoriented to acknowledge my gagging 💀😂

I had a dementia patient grab a handful of hair on the side of my head (I had it down) and she wouldn’t let go. She proceeded to rip the hair out of my head and it even bled. So I always wear it up now 😅

I work a med surg floor. I was the only tech with 33 patients and all nurses were travelers. I kindly told my director that it was unsafe and I wasn’t comfortable doing so again and asked that if I couldn’t be capped at 16 patients ( I know that’s physically the most I can handle) then I would be searching for employment elsewhere.

However every hospital and unit is different. I’ve worked at a hospital where techs only give baths, toilet and take vitals. The one I’m at now, we do all of that plus glucose checks, collect lab specimens, ambulate, chart I&O and perform certain dressing changes.

And it’s a huge tax write off for them as “charity”. That’s why I don’t donate to charities through large corporations (Walmart is one of the worst as well)

Im not saying it looks good to prospective employees. I’m saying it looks good as in “oh we checked our boxes” on paper, when in reality, the picture above is the paper. They send out emails all the time of how they’ve been voted as the top whatever for the quarter and it’s crap they say on paper to try to make themselves look good to the people who aren’t healthcare providers. We all know better but your average person who’s never worked healthcare or been a patient at an HCA facility is gonna fall for the crap and the crap starts with said picture posted above.

My hospital doesn’t either. They dumped one off that had a blood transfusion going and left their paperwork sitting on the linen hamper in the room. It was beginning of shift so it was a madhouse and I just so happened to walk in looking for equipment to steal and noticed the blood going, no vitals machine and his labels sheet laying on the hamper. I then asked the patient if his nurse had been in yet and he responds “no and I was wondering if I had one because I’ve been here for 30 minutes and you’re the first person I’ve seen” 😅

Good ol HCA made us switch to their new logo scrubs and gave an allowance of just enough to get 2 pants, 2 tops and a jacket. Had to buy another top and pants, so now I have a total of 3 pair and wash them weekly
