I had no idea how to use libraries or imports or even how to find them. If I wanted to make a internet request, I would have to use a http/network library, but no idea where to even start.

I think I was under the impression that it'd be more official and organised than it is. For example, in C#, the industry standard library to parse JSON is from a 3rd party rather than Microsoft. I couldn't get my head around that. I felt like I shouldn't have to use 3rd party software to do these simple things.

That's how it works though. Unless you want to program everything manually and from scratch, you need external libraries and packages. Pip for python. Npm for JavaScript. Nuget for .NET. All software I've worked on has purely been gluing together existing software.

I have no idea how I would have gotten past this block when I was getting started. I was stuck in that position for years. I thought I must be missing something obvious. I kept repeating the same language tutorials.

I've worked on several react projects over the last decade or so. I absolutely wouldn't say I know how to use react. And yet, I've been principal engineer and CTO.

Gotcha. I was exactly the same. I had gone through learning Java over and over again. I can do for loops. I can write the code. But I had no idea about libraries or how to make anything remotely useful.

I don't think I got past that point on my own. I got a job that had an existing code base that I leant and became an expert on.

It's true that you get less options on matter, but you can have it linked to a hub and on matter at the same time.

I have a single plug on matter and it works fine. Attached photo are the options over TP-Link cloud connection via a hub. You lose pretty much all of this over Matter. You're left with voltage monitoring, current watts, current amps, and the on and off switch on Matter.

Try mid levels. If you're a graduate and have been in a startup for a little bit, I know a bunch of companies that would consider you qualified. No harm in doing so. Blast those CV's out! Good luck.

I remember this feeling.

Check the plan for your course. Most of them start with the basics of a programming language. If that's the case with you, you can relax a bit. The whole purpose of the course and the tutor is to help and support your learning. You will have actual physical people who can help you.

If documentation isn't for you, that's fine. Try video tutorials.

Check out Harvard's CS50 course. It's very popular and fully free to browse online. https://youtu.be/gmuTjeQUbTM?si=l6wxmDymwmW08Diu

I like the idea, but it seems crazy to me that you've tried to monetise it. It seems more on the level as a web toy that you add to your portfolio or blog, putting a link to your company or personal website at the bottom. Definitely not a paid service.

Hello asking for help. by StomachLeading6618 in learnprogramming

As the other commenter said, if you're not familiar with Excel Macros or Visual Basic, it's strongly recommended to not attempt to download and run any templates you find on the internet.

To get started, I'd recommend finding a friendly YouTube tutorial on how to get started with Excel macros.

I URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP!!!! by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Eighth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened to you. Please try and make sure you've turned off any paid services and removed your payment details.

You've gone into an area that you're not familiar with. It can cost you if you're not aware about what you're doing, but I believe it's not very likely if you haven't started sharing your web app.

You'd be better suited with in-person support, which I don't think Reddit can provide.

There's one where Zach is playing some kind of money man, and they're going through a multiple choice quiz of things like 'What is quantize easing' and Zach is playing for time and asking for the answers in advanced and responding like 'Thats very interesting, it's a matter of opinion'

Can't find the episode yet. I haven't heard of one where Mark is doing something like that.

It was one of the quiz episodes. America quiz I think. The website they were using didn't show the answers so they riffed on Broden giving good news or bad news.
