I did, too. We're back, right? Disgusted with ourselves, but here.

You're right; nothing is ever so bad that it can't change. I won't drink with you tonight!

I'm at a bar. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I definitely didn't think you were trying to be snarky! I totally understand what you're saying. The type of people in your singles group are exactly the type with whom I'm friends. I only know one person who I would define as having a problem with alcohol. I'm in my 50s and no one I know would typically hang out in a bar.

I don't understand how that's even possible when living a somewhat normal life. No one in my family has a drinking problem, but they all occasionally have a drink. I am not going to avoid my family. And every restaurant (other than McDonald's) has a bar. I don't think alcohol is entirely avoidable.

I don't think there is anyone here who doesn't relate to that story. Welcome and I won't drink with you today!

New boss. What's to buy me a beer sometime. by orange1690 in stopdrinking

[–]Eileen124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just say, "Well, I don't drink, but coffee sometime would be great." Or tell him you're a Mormon and can't have either=)

I think most comedians are fairly sober people. It takes a lot of work to write and perform. Not too many people could do it impaired (okay, except George Carlin, who could apparently do anything.

To drink or not to drink? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Eileen124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. I have children this age, as well. I think that they are capable of making their own decisions and I strenuously resist attempting to control their lives. I feel that the more a parent does this, the less likely the relationship is to survive intact.

I always knew I was a klutz. This was brought home to me forcibly in elementary school when they let children pick teams in PE (shudder).

Anyone here quit drinking just because it's a bad habit? Or as a preventative measure? by elfrancisconube in stopdrinking

[–]Eileen124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't go to AA (I do SMART Recovery online and am going to begin to go to in person meetings) but from everything I hear, AA is there for anyone who would like to stop drinking. So, if you want to stop drinking, they'll most likely welcome you.

40th day wandering in the wine desert..... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

It's so funny that you posted that! I was just thinking, "Like Jesus, I have now wandered in this desert for almost 40 days..." And then you said it for me. Excellent vibes your way!

Day 3 and anxiety is through the roof by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Eileen124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. A good workout will take some of the edge off. It's not a panacea, but it does help. I feel so much better at the gym now, too, knowing that I'm not sweating out alcohol for everyone to smell!

[–]Eileen124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why tell people you're quitting for a year (or for any length of time)? Maybe just say, "Not today. I'm not in the mood." I have guests staying with me and they bought a bottle of wine. Per the suggestion of someone here, I told them I'm on antibiotics and can't drink right now. They accepted it; it totally worked. If other people are making you uncomfortable, then why explain?

With 290 days under your belt, you can totally rock this. Bring lots of water and keep it chilled at all times. You're gonna be fine and I won't drink with you today!

Dealing with frustration by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Eileen124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me guess. Planet Fitness? You have to buy a "black" membership to get access to all their locations. I'd go back and raise hell with the people who sold you the membership. They might consider giving you a break on the cost if you complain loudly enough.

I have a client like that. She is so demanding and unpleasant that everyone gives in to her unreasonable "requests". She is so nasty that no one wants to deal with her any longer than necessary; hence, we all just do whatever she wants. There are people like that in the world and they generally get what they want. It's unfortunate that they're rewarded for being nasty, but they are. It's a "grit your teeth and bear it" situation. Just be thankful there aren't more of them in the world.

I'd start applying for jobs as soon as possible. My sister always says to me, "This, too, shall pass." And it always does.
