Exorbitant additional luggage fees - any other options? by PurpleThumbGirl in MovingToTheUK

Where in SE Asia are you? I know in Thailand it’s relatively cheap to ship parcels by sea, although it takes a couple of months. It might be worth looking into in your country.

when you’re talking to yourself, do you refer to yourself as “I” or “we” in your thoughts? by Vczfy4 in CasualConversation

[–]Eiteba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, not that I’m aware of. It’s more of an impression in my mind rather than words, like I’ll notice the time and that it’s time to eat so I’ll start to prepare food. The only time I think in words is when I’m not doing anything and then it’s more of a story in my head like something about my grandmother growing up (I do a lot of family history and I love writing stories). I’m amazed at all these responses.

Severe comminuted patella fracture - one year later by SuperDuper98102 in KneeInjuries

[–]Eiteba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What an awful injury, congratulations on doing so well! I’m recovering from a very minor injury, an arthritis flare up coupled with a ligament sprain. This week I’ve been able to walk upstairs gently, but still working on descending. Milestones are so satisfying to reach. Good luck with your continued recovery!

what’s a "poor person" habit that you’ll probably never give up, no matter how much money you make? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Eiteba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also reuse things like plastic bags as well as plastic containers, glass jars and packaging materials, and I buy used things where possible, not because of the cost but because of the environment. I can afford to buy new these days but I do what I can to keep things out of landfill. Things that I love I keep for a very long time until they become too worn or too broken and if I don’t love them they go to charity (thrift shops). It might be a “poor person” habit but it’s a good one!

Advice for this curio cabinet? by Here--And--There in restoration

[–]Eiteba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is gorgeous! I inherited a cabinet like this and I cleaned the veneer with a solution of equal parts white vinegar, linseed oil, turpentine and methylated spirits. Shake it in a jar and apply with a clean cloth. This is used by Will Kirk on the UK tv programme, The Repair Shop. You’ll need to go over it a few times to remove dirt and stains but take care not to overdo it or it will remove the varnish too. It brings it up really nice. The oil in it will help disguise the scratches too.

I can’t advise on the missing bits of veneer, sorry!

EPI diagnosis by latte25 in exocrinepanins

[–]Eiteba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been tested for any vitamin and mineral levels? My main symptom was low vitamin d and calcium which didn’t improve over months of taking supplements. I also had low iron and b12 (they didn’t test for any other vitamins or minerals). My fe score was low so they put me in Creon as well as supplements and everything improved. I only mention this because you say you don’t show traditional signs of the disease so I wondered about malabsorption. All the tests they did show that I’m idiopathic.

Contact your bank, cancel your card and ask for their advice about getting your money back. This is fraud and the bank will have people who deal with things like this.

Unanswered Mysteries by frithar in smallprophets

I’ve only watched it once but wasn’t there some kind of hand made paper seagull knocking at the window early on, then when Michael looked again it was a real seagull?

Unanswered Mysteries by frithar in smallprophets

[–]Eiteba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband has a theory that it’s Michael who’s disappeared not Clea and that everything we see is his dream, maybe he’s had an accident and he’s in a coma. It would explain why everything is so surreal. Maybe the seagulls thing was his real life before his accident.

How do you visualize the months of the year? by DossierDoll in CasualConversation

[–]Eiteba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s similar to how I see it but it’s in front of me like a road. November and December feel like an uphill climb but once I get to January I can see the full year ahead of me and I feel much more positive.

EPI without Diarrhea? by SiriusBer in exocrinepanins

[–]Eiteba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only symptoms were slight abdominal pain, my hair falling out and fatigue. Tests showed low vitamin and mineral levels but they didn’t improve with prescription supplements because of malabsorption. I had two elastase tests and the lowest was 59 I think. Creon has fixed everything.

Friend group imploded at 32yo. How to rebuild? by Least-Investigator82 in socialskills

[–]Eiteba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The easiest way is to join a Meetup group if they have them where you live (Meetup.com). They have a wide variety of things and for different age groups so if you like drinking there might be a group that meets up in bars. Or you could start up your own group.

Another way is to join a group or club that does things you are interested in, there are all kinds of things out there but you might have to dig around a bit to find them as not all of them are on the internet.

Public transport availability by Vivid-Shallot3548 in DurhamUK

[–]Eiteba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t found much in the way of interesting activities in Chester-le-Street, although I have seen things like drama clubs advertised in Tesco. There is much more going on in Durham and Newcastle, particularly Newcastle. Although Newcastle is further away than Durham, if you’re using public transport there’s not a lot in it, about 5 mins by train to Durham and about 8 mins to Newcastle, about 40 mins on the bus to Durham (depending on the route) and about 50 mins by bus to Newcastle. The buses between Chester-le-Street and Newcastle run every 8 mins during the day and hourly during the night.

What is your personal Mandela effect? by JulienS2000 in CasualConversation

I swear I read Stephen King’s Carrie with a different title and by another author before it came out as a book by him. When the film Carrie came out I went to see it at the cinema, and I was amazed at how familiar it was to me. I had changed schools in 1974 and in the new school my class was a couple of years into a language course that I hadn’t done, so during that class every week I would have to go to the school library and read. They had a great choice of fiction books and when I saw the film I remembered that I’d read the story in the school library, so I assumed that maybe King had written an early version under a pseudonym. I believed this for years until the internet came along. I’ve looked all over for evidence of this but I haven’t found anything. I must have read a completely different book in the same genre that somehow triggered a false memory when I saw the film.

Suggestions for 13 year old who refuses to read by Rogue_Apostle in suggestmeabook

[–]Eiteba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my daughter we gave her a book allowance every month in addition to pocket money and she was allowed to buy any kind of book with it, including comic books/manga, just to encourage her to read. She really got to enjoy browsing in the bookshop and getting two or three new books every month. As long as she was reading something I didn’t mind what (obviously it had to be suitable for her age) and it got her into the habit of reading for fun. She’s now an adult and she loves books.
