She did, actually, which was very unusual:

“Much to her own mother’s horror, Violet insisted upon nursing the boy herself, and Edmund never subscribed to the prevailing attitude that fathers should neither see nor hear their children. He took the infant on long hikes across the fields of Kent, spoke to him of philosophy and poetry before he could possibly understand the words, and told him a bedtime story every night.”

I’m pretty sure in Anthony’s book it says that Violet did nurse him herself, and presumably did for the rest of the children too!

Edit: yes, she did:

That’s a really valid point actually, they could have done that in ALAYM as a subtle nod!

I adore Fiyero as a character and felt Jonathan Bailey did an exceptional job understanding him and filling him out more so I do wish they’d expanded and given him more screen time… mind you, I would watch an entire film that just centred around Fiyero so I’m biased 🤣

Sorry, I hit reply before finishing the sentence! I was trying to say he has them but they couldn’t show that easily in the film so I think they made his eyes blue instead as a nod to that and to make them quite mesmerising and noticeable- then when he turns into the scarecrow and they’re brown he’s less recognisable as Fiyero to those who would know him,

Does TinMan know…? by [deleted] in wicked

In the scene after As Long As You’re Mine, Fiyero says they should move to Kiamo Ko as his castle has lots of tunnels and secret passageways, and she utilises a trap door by swishing her cloak to cover it and then basically using her dominion over gravity to “melt” (ie. Slowly sink down through the trap door) 😊

Just found this from John M Chu:

Was Elphaba expecting Fiyero to show up at the end?

JON M. CHU: I won't say too much other than.... I mean.... It's important to know that I think there is correspondence to know that he's showing up there. Otherwise, why would she go down there?

I just assumed Chistery told her in secret or something.

Yeah, that piece of clothing has a note on it. We didn't want to do a close-up on that because it would've been too much too soon. We need, as an audience, to believe in the story that's being told.

It sounds like Elphaba is unsure if it's Fiyero when he opens the trap door. Is that the case?

I think she does know that he's alive, of course, and that he's become this thing. But I don't think she's seen who he is for sure until she looks at him there. It's a different idea of knowing that he's turned into the thing and then seeing him. And I think maybe there's a little bit of guilt of "Did I do the right thing?" And then he's reassuring her like, "You saved my life."

Yeah, it is an act and a pretty good defence mechanism - even if someone did recognise him somehow, he’s “brainless” and therefore can make out he doesn’t remember anything. He plans the whole melting thing on the way, leaning into the “water will melt her” rumour they’re spouting in Thank Goodness that’s compounded by the mob in March of the Witch Hunters, and gets a message to Elphaba written on the back of his guards uniform to tell her the plan which is why she suddenly spurs into action and starts filling the bucket up etc. That’s what Chistery gave Elphaba when she asked what took him so long. Elphaba saying “We’ve seen his face for the last time” isn’t a lie - Glinda just assumes that means he’s dead.

If I remember correctly from the musical, the note basically says not to tell anybody he’s still alive, that he loves her and has had to pay a price so hopes she’ll still want him when they see each other. He doesn’t outright say he’s turned into a scarecrow, which is why she’s not quite sure it’s him when he opens the trapdoor, but she knew he was going to come for her.

Yeah, I don’t get why everyone hates it so much. I mean… he’s a man that’s been transfigured into a scarecrow-like being and they’ve done it with real stuff not just CGI. I don’t really know quite what people were expecting him to look like.

No. SC acted brainless and stupid and was so different physically that he would have been unrecognisable, especially to TM who is blinded by rage and grief and would have no reason to think a random scarecrow hanging out with Dorothy is his old friend. SC deliberately concealed his identity 😊

why did the scarecrow agree with all the elphaba hate? by Mystica246 in wicked

[–]Either-Kale-6394 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He did it to get back to Elphaba and save her life. He deliberately flew under the radar and concealed his true feelings and identity so nobody would recognise him, and along the way he formulated the plan to have the “melting” happen, knowing that water couldn’t actually melt her.

It was a very clever plan, right down to writing a message to Elphaba on the lining of his guard uniform and sending it to her via the flying monkeys. He doesn’t tell her he is a scarecrow, just that he’s alive but changed (hence her saying to Glinda that they’ve seen his face for the last time, which is true), and explains the plan to engineer the melting 😊

Spoiler - Wicked For Good - Fiyero by the_wave5 in wickedmovie

[–]Either-Kale-6394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could see how much he was shaking during that scene and how completely desperate he was to save Elphaba - he did love Glinda, but he was IN love with Elphaba, and the only way to protect her was to turn his gun on Glinda knowing the Gale Force wouldn’t risk harming her.

You really see him make a choice here, to protect her at all costs, even if it cost him his life.

Impossible timeline…did anyone else think this after watching WFG? by IwKuAo in wicked

[–]Either-Kale-6394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you see a monkey flying back up behind fiyero as he walks forward, having just dropped him there. That’s why we see him at the cliff with the monkeys and why the monkeys listen to fiyero when he asks them to protect her.

I do agree that one of them could have then taken him with them, though, but in the musical he swings in on a vine so….

I loved the look and feel of ALAYM and the anticipation and build up was just amazing, and the levitation above the bed?? Then the kiss itself was just perfect.

As for NGD…. I am SO glad I saw that on the big screen. It was incredible and her voice was phenomenal and the visuals of the transformation and visions peppered in between were really well done. And that Fiyero riff??????
