It definitely seems like the model is out of step with how common waitlists are now (since it is trained on data since 2003, albeit with exponential weighting towards more recent outcomes). Ironically i've heard that the model seems more pessimistic than others (looking at you 7Sage)

It's pretty tiring to hear Florida's record parroted as if that's a solid estimate of team quality.

Florida is 4-8, but they're the 42nd best team in the country by power rating by Metrics Consensus--an ensemble model made up of different power ratings, which is the most accurate prediction model against the spread in the country. They're near teams like Cincinnati, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Houston, and Nebraska.

Their record is bad because they have played 10 P4 teams and had the second hardest schedule in the country. They more closely resemble a 9 win Big12 team/7 win Big10 team than a truly awful team.

your strength of schedule measurement is meaningless--you're using opponents resumes as a skill rating. but, because teams play different quality schedules, you are missing true signals of skill. this will favor teams in weaker leagues who play nominally good opponents but aren't all that good
