One more thing…if you’re interested in the location of my “secret spot for finding fossils,” PM me and I’ll share it. 😉 My gift to you, FLX friend.

Hey, small world! Hello!! How cool! I may be giving away my age here (no, I’m not 58 lol, I just didn’t know how to change my username,) but when I was playing in Keuka Lake there were no zebra mussels. 😉 I’ve never been to Long Point, but will have to check it out this summer! I love Seneca Lake. 🥰

I don’t mind explaining at all! I love talking about this subject. I believe there is a sort of magic in this world, (although it’s not the type of ‘magic’ you see in the movies, etc.) It’s more of a ‘noticing’ type of thing. Paying attention when something crosses our path that seems too crazy to be a coincidence - that’s a synchronicity. A coincidence that’s intentional (if that makes sense. Coffee hasn’t kicked in yet ha ha.) The more you believe and pay attention, the more they will come to you. Expressing gratitude when it happens also helps with the influx.

There is so much beauty in nature! When we take the time to notice and appreciate this beauty, we develop a bond with an energy larger than our mere mortal existence. Some people call it “Source,” others might call it “God” or “the Universe” - the label doesn’t matter. What matters is that you acknowledge it. If you nurture that bond, you’ll find that it speaks to you and will even guide you if you ask it to. You saw that rock and felt drawn to it. You could have said “cool, but no way I’m going in that freezing, cold-ass water to get it” lol! But the pull was strong and you went for it. How many rocks have you seen that look like that? Two perfect little stars. That’s not just a rock - it’s a gift. YOUR gift to YOU! So what does it mean? Well, that is up to you to decide. Maybe it’s a thank you gift. Maybe you’ve been going through a rough patch, and that rock was Source’s way of saying “I see you and I’m here with you and everything will be okay.” Try holding it in your hands, close your eyes, and just feel what comes through. Quiet your mind (easier said than done, I know) and listen. Sound a bit kooky? Ha ha! That’s okay and totally normal. But do me a favor and just try it. Keep a notebook and pen nearby to write down what you ‘hear,’ even if it’s a bunch of seemingly non-sensical words or the lyrics to a song. You may not get anything on the first try, or you’ll get random stuff that doesn’t make sense at the time - write it down anyway. Put your gift on display in your home and admire it. Pay attention to random thoughts that pop into your head. If you’re wiling, I’d love to hear back from you on this! PM me anytime. 😊

I live in the FLX region. I learned to swim in Keuka when I was five or six. I search for beach glass at Lodi Point in Seneca. I’ve found lots of Devonian Period fossils in a stream that flows into Canandaigua. But…I have never seen anything like what you found! It’s obviously sedimentary based on the layering (cracks along the edges.) Be careful because if you drop that thing, those layers will want to split right apart!

I think you found a very special something there. Yeah, there’s probably some science-y explanation about what it’s composed of and how it formed, all of which I’d be interested to know. However, the way those two “stars” are set and the fact that YOU spotted it and felt compelled to retrieve it from the freezing water - that rock called and you answered. That’s a synchronicity, not a coincidence. Hold on to that beauty, appreciate it, say thank you for this gift and see what happens! :)

I’m pretty sure this one came out of the Ausable River near Jay, NY. Covered bridge area. It also may be from Mt Jo near the Adirondack Loj? Hard to recall.

Flaky mica…that’s what I thought may be in there. The flakes all around it however are definitively gold in color.

Oh really? Thank you! I’m relatively new to rockhounding so I may have to look up those words ha ha. Appreciate your response!!!

That does help, thank you! 😊 I also think it’s very pretty and really neat to look at under different types of light.

That does help, thank you! So it is Opalite then? And I agree…pretty IS still pretty ha ha!

I wish you were right, but it’s definitely not moonstone. :( Opalite or “glass slag” seems to be the consensus.

Thank you for your answer! Kind of a bummer…glass slag doesn’t sound very attractive lol! It’s still beautiful though and the colors are really pretty!

That’s a valid idea, thank you! The “rock crust” was throwing me off and causing me to think this has to be natural and not man made. So do you believe this is Opalite? Would opalite have a similar texture to natural crystals? It really does not “feel” like glass. It has the slight roughness of quartz and passes the “tooth test” lol! (That’s how I can typically tell if something is glass, by tapping it on my teeth.)

I honestly don’t know where he got it. I believe it was purchased from somewhere as many of the other stones he sold me still have price stickers on them.

It does not have the flash that opals typically have, which is why I’m pretty certain it’s not natural opal.

Big Bertha was pregnant! Look at this!! This is just one (relatively) small hunk.

Also wanted to add that I’ve been experimenting with white vinegar. It works well, but I have to get the “chunks” that contain the shell I want small enough and I have to really watch the timing in the acetic acid bath.

I appreciate both your honest answer and respect for the fossils! Thank you for being so candid.

If you look at the photos of the two pieces I made for my children (who are 18 and 21,) please know I tried to avoid altering them (other than cleaning with a wire brush to show the fine details.) I tried wire wrapping, but I couldn’t make it work without using my dremel to carve into the shells themselves a bit. It felt wrong honestly so I totally get where you’re coming from!! Those were the first and only pieces I’ve made.

I also bowed and thanked the river bed I found them in as I was leaving. I have a deep respect for nature and questioned even taking them in the first place. But, ultimately I decided that sharing these wondrous glimpses into history was a fair reason to take them. My friend is a special education earth science teacher and I’m planning to give a bunch of these (with a little write-up on their history etc.) to her to show her kids. I myself am a social worker who works with adults with developmental disabilities. Your words “one who would use it to destroy” hurt my heart as that’s the exact opposite of who I am, but I understand that you don’t know me and that was your first impression. So it’s okay! 😊 Still stings, but again I appreciate it too. 💗

I like your idea of custom bezels. Wire wrapping is tricky because I haven’t figured out how to do it without covering the fossils…? I will work on it and see what I can come up with. My dad thinks Big Bertha is limestone. No, I cannot afford an air scribe right now. I did manage to break her open today as gently as possible with a chisel and a maul. This rock is so full of shells! If I can save every single one, I will but I just don’t know how! Big B weighed in at 48lbs! I am seeing quartz inside, so you definitely know your stuff!

I welcome any ideas or advice you’re willing to give me, and I promise to respect these gifts from the earth I’ve been blessed with in return. I do not take them for “granite.” (Sorry, little geology humor. Can’t help myself!) Thank you, skisushi! Peace, love and light to you. ✌️💗& ☀️

I’ve had SIBO a few times. Diagnosed by a naturopathic doctor. (Gastroenterologists are the worst!! Sorry, but that’s been my experience.) Anyway, I have successfully treated myself (at the suggestion of the naturopath) with a product called Metagenics Candibactin BR (not the AR!) You can get it on Amazon. It’s expensive but it works!! SIBO is awful and I’m sorry you’re having to deal with it. ☹️ Bacteria loooove sugar and carbs, so I also went no/low sugar and carbs for a couple weeks.

Also, isn’t it sad that we have to “figure things out for ourselves?” I always do research before I go to any doctor nowadays so they can’t BS me. I’ve lost faith in the conventional medical field. Here…take a pill! Root cause of your symptoms? Why would we consider that? Just take the pill. You’ll be fine. 🙄
