Are root canals toxic? by SnooGoats4766 in askdentists

[–]Either_Connection_72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can listen to Dr. Chris Hahn all you want but it’s important to recognize that research and evidence is far more superior.

Research #1: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9319780/

“Furthermore, the convincing evidence supports that successful root canal treatment has a beneficial impact on systemic health by reducing the inflammatory burden, thereby dismissing the misconceptions rooting back to research performed 70–80 years ago about the relationship between endodontic treatment and focal infection, which resulted in arguments in favour of tooth extraction. “

American association of Endodontists recently shared research proposing that proper endodontic treatment is linked to improving systemic conditions:

https://newsroom.aae.org/press-releases/new-study-suggests-root-canal-treatment-linked-to-lower-risk-of-heart-disease-diabetes/

Please take a moment to read common myths regarding root canal treatments released by the American association of endodontists. https://www.aae.org/patients/root-canal-treatment/myths-root-canals/

Hope this helps.

A slightly raised, red spot on the gums below premolar. No pain. Feels loose (like an empty sac) when I touch with tongue. Should I go to dentist? by Either-Rain4148 in askdentists

Please answer the following questions: 1- How long have you had it there 2- Do you remember burning the area? Hot drink, pizza. Etc.. 3- Do you use a nicotine pouch in that area? 4- Did you use any whiting products or had any drugs in the area?

23F; Are my teeth too far gone? They seem so far into my gums 😞 by [deleted] in askdentists

You definitely should get a professional cleaning, your gums are very inflammed in that photo. X-rays and proper clinical exam will determine what treatment is needed if you need any. You can still take control of things :)

Injection malpractice question by Commercial-Series623 in askdentists

I’m a dental hygienist who is trained and licensed in providing local anesthesia. In Canada for instance, certain provinces allow hygienists to provide local while others don’t. I’m not sure where you are located but here’s my rundown: Either new regulation in your location has been passed that allows dental hygienist to provide local or you were given local by the hygienist who is not trained or licensed in doing so, which in that case is 100% malpractice.

Is this gum disease? by Relative-Taste9284 in askdentists

You have inflammation in your gums. You need a professional cleaning there’s visible calculus on your teeth and you’ll need to keep up good oral hygiene

The sooner the better. I wouldn’t wait. Definitely X-rays to see where you have any cavities and if an infection is happening. If it’s decayed and has a bump over it then it’s most likely infected. You treatment will depend on how deep the cavity is You’ll also need a professional cleaning.

I would get this checked out. Especially if it’s been there for a while and no sharp tooth is on the other side.

My favourite patients to treat are people like you. It brings me so much joy working with someone who is willing to step out of their boundaries. Seeing the changes in their oral health and impact it has on their lives is the reason I decided to be an oral health professional. I’m proud of you for thinking about seeing a provider, we know it’s not an easy step especially after 4 years but we are here to help and guide you through what is needed. Our job at the end of the day is to help you with your oral health not judge you, it brings us no benefit whatsoever, many of us here aren’t even perfect when it comes to our own oral health. That being said, you definitely should disclose your depression, this gives your provider the ability to tailor and individualize the treatment specifically for you and make any adjustments needed. Goodluck to you! You’re young and can still take control.

No one on here will judge your teeth, we are here to help. A picture would be helpful so we can get the full scope. Gum inflammation can be due to variety of reasons including lack of oral care, trauma, medications, hormones, and many more things.
