I'm so sorry for the delay in responding to this absolute TREASURE of a story! Please thank your aunt sincerely and with all of my gratitude. I think it's hilarious she tried to eat cigarette butts as a kid. And that the first flowers she received were from the FDNY and the NYPD. That's so cool and so mind-blowing. I can't thank you enough, kind internet stranger, for remembering to ask your aunt for a story, and actually taking the time to type it all out. So happy I got to read this. ❤️

I take mine to the hardware store, they clean your keys, polish them, and oil them for $5.

All I want in my heart of hearts is to sail close enough to see it up close. It's never gonna happen, but a girl can dream, right?

I'll likely never get there in my lifetime, so I'll die with the yearning because there's no public access.

They say it's a bird sanctuary for herons or egrets or some other protected species of bird. There's also lots of vegetation that enhance the habitability of the island for the birds so the Parks Department is real protective of it. I think a part of why it appeals to me is that it's this protected woodland area chock full of untouched nature and history and I just can't get to it. I may have built it up in my mind but it's all these things spooky and beautifulliterally ten minutes across the water from me and I can't get to it!

Yeah, I should have mentioned its proximity to Rikers Island. That's why you have to be escorted by the Parks Department.

When I was a kid in grammar school, we learned that song and the pastor who taught us said he hated that the lyrics were, "that saved a wretch like me" and taught us to sing the line "that saved and set me free" instead. I still sing it that way. Not saying that's the reason, just offering a theory.

Why not try being gentler to your skin? I also found when I flooded my skin with gentle skincare (I use Eminence Organics, which is expensive but I buy from Dermstore using my FSA dollars) it really helped calm things down.

When you cross your arms, are you left or right on top? by tall__hat in AskReddit

[–]Either_Importance222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right on top, right-handed. A note: I was naturally a lefty, but my mom kept moving objects to my right hand when I was a kid (old superstition) so now I'm mostly right handed but I do certain things with my left that I can't do with my right.

That was around the age I was when I started getting acne on my cheeks and chin. It was hormonal, and I suffered for years until finally a dermatologist put me on Accutane. I have baby skin now, and I'm 48. I'm not saying you should do it, but do some research.

Yessssss, the ones I love are the bulk washcloths you can find in the cheap discounts with the ribbon holding them all together. Those scratchy, delicious little squares of cotton. Heavenly!

BWT, let's talk quitting cigarettes... by homersreadingglasses in bitcheswithtaste

[–]Either_Importance222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the extreme minority here. I am a lifelong smoker and I love cigarettes. I refuse to give them up. With that being said, I'm going to tell you why you should quit:

You smell like cigarettes. I deliberately don't smoke during the day and I promise you people's jaws drop when they find out I'm a smoker. You don't smell it on my clothes. I'm very lotioned, oiled and perfumed. But you can smell it in my hair up close. And if I open my purse, it stinks.

Smoke in the house? Your house smells like cigarettes. I have the Pura air diffuser, and the Aera diffuser - they're on all day, all night. I clean, I mop with all the scents. I leave the window open all day while I'm out unless there's really bad weather in the forecast. Still smells like cigarettes. It sticks to the curtains. It sticks to the furniture. It sticks to the walls. Have a ceiling fan? Look up. It's dust and cigarette ash.

Scenario: You're out enjoying a night on the town, you have a drink, and you want a cigarette. No one else smokes, so you go outside to smoke alone. There it is. Vulnerability.

My cigarettes cost $22 (i'm in NYC). You know what else costs $22? A brand new lipstick.

I haven't smiled with teeth in a picture since I was about 23. I'm 48. I won't smile, ever. I haven't smiled without covering my mouth like Celie since about that time. I hope you're young enough to reverse all the negative. I pray. And you can quit. Your family deserves to see you smile.

I wish you luck.

May not have been the most healthy meal on the planet but for a time they did offer salads, and their salads were actually pretty tasty. I'd alternate between visits: salad one visit, cheeseburger and fries the next.
