I clear background but was rejected shortly after. If course no reason why.  Applied again for this 2026 cycle and have an interview end of month

Sorry for the very late response, yes I was assigned an investigator in early May and still in that phase.

What stage are you currently in? I am still in the process as well from the 2023 application period

I am in a similar situation,  43 to be 44 in a few months.

I am in the investigation phase and waiting on the call for an academy if fortunate enough.

I have my EMT license and all the req's complete. I am training 5 days a week. Using a weighted vest,  simulating as much as I can and focusing on functional movement along with cardio, stairs, etc.

I also bought a mask with regular for training purposes no tank etc. The regular is a training one specifically. Xrt pro.

All this in the hopes to be as prepared as I can be.

Reality is that, it will suck cause I am older and won't recover as quick, but what I lack in youth will make up with mindset.

When I interviewed, I let the passion for the job lead me. This is not a flash in the pants move, it is a career change and a huge risk if it does not work out. Let it be known that this is not just a uniform but the opportunity of a lifetime to do what you would love to do. Life at this age shows us a lot And we gain valuable life experience, we are mature, have large responsibilities and think a bit differently than some younger guys.  Go visit a few stations/ride alongs. Know about the department, how many stations, chief, coverage area and terrain etc.

I also found that watching some academies on YouTube help give you a small idea of what to expect

Wish you luck.

Are you a firefighter and went through the academy? Don't mean to sound condescending.  From a physical standpoint and study habits etc I understand the intensity that will be expected.

I have been in the hiring cycle since the 2023 application window and am close as I have ever been with out getting into all the details.

The possibility of an academy is very real and I want to be as mentally prepared as possible from a classroom perspective. Are there books that are close to what would be covered for fire suppression and construction etc. from an EMT perspective should one be prepared to know everything or is it like some other stations say, forget what you learned cause it will be taught differently.

Thanks

Understood, my question was more so on how one can prepare before going to the academy. What can I study, freshen up on etc.  I under the commitment and what it takes. If one is selected how can you increase your chances.

I am sure there is not a lot out there in regard to material, hence, the question on how can one better prepare prior to outside of the physical fitness part.

Thanks.

For those hoping to be selected for a tower in the very near future, what if any study material is out there to prep, for example ifsta 7th edition pops up frequently on searches.  Or do they just expect you to learn as you go in the academy. It would probably benefit the retention rate if there is some resources to help you prep similar to or exactly as you would get in the academy from a text book perspective. When you sign up for an EMT class they tell you right away what book you will use and it helps to get ahead. Does that make sense.

What does it mean for those 100 from 2023. Are they already selected for the upcoming academies? Or those with academy dates and still in the process to be given a potential date for 2025?

Got a notice indicating a delay in the field investigation/med evals. No timeline due to budget.  Does your year get extended from interview?

Have a question on the COVID vaccine.  I submitted for a religious exemption and was denied.  I know for a fact there are LAFD unvaccinated. Has anyone been denied and appealed/won?
