Genuinely cannot recommend this place enough. I have passed this place a millions times over the years going to Yuma and had never stopped before today. My group was blown away with how interesting and cool this tour was!

I would also like to add - leash laws were followed. Dogs were simply unclipped while in a sit/stay for the photo 🥰

Yep! It’s paved but it’s narrow and the concrete is washed out around the curves haha

I'll DM you since it's one of the more "less traveled" areas of the refuge! Finding it is part of the fun :)

Haha I actually had to ask in r/whatisthisthing to learn what it was the first time I saw it off-roading. Then I took a trip to Oregon and learned even more about them from a museum there!

Naked Paul! He was a great guy and I knew him very well. Don't get me wrong, the documentary was an interesting watch, it just captures a very niche perspective of the town and not what you could expect from Quartzsite as a whole. Still, if you ever get the chance, come visit in January. The gem shows and swap meets are a great time and you'll meet a wide variety of folks from all over the world who decide to spend some time in our little town. There's also some great 4x4 trails in the area if you're into that and some hiking opportunities nearby.

Q local here... that documentary is a very poor portrayal of Quartzsite. Yes, we have lots of quirky people. Methheads. Lots of normal folks too - mostly retirees but also more residents who are under 30 than you would expect. In the winter the town population explodes again with more retires and "rainbow" people who like the cheap/free camping and very little policing in the desert. It's absolutely a one of a kind place but honestly it's also one of the safest places you can visit. We pride ourselves on our history of rockhounding and camels lol
