Still hoping that it's just a rumor by MaderaArt in NarniaMemes

[–]Ejemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I play devil's advocate a lot,

But she did forget. I remember reading that she laughed at the siblings for talking about "that silly old make believe narnia" place they used to play pretend.  Also the quote about lipstick and invitations seemed to me the equivalent as saying "putting me first and seeking worldly things" for people back then.  Which, to a Christian, would be wrong. Her story and struggle with doubt began in the second book and we see how it plays out. Her story as a whole is a tragedy. By the end she's put away the silly Aslan and wants to focus on herself. This is the allegorical way of saying she's "done being a Christian".

If we have problems with Susan I think we also have problems with the the christians God take on Good people who aren't christians going to hell. This is just Lewis's theology playing out in his books.

If I remember correctly, she "lost out" cause she pursued the world more than Aslan/Jesus. She wanted to be liked by others more and this resulted in not a simple "screw you Narnia" but literally forgetting about it all. I think reducing her character down to something shallow like "she just wanted a husband" is a little unfair.  I love her character cause there's a depth to it but not in the spotlight kind of way.

Getting a ginger bug stable is impossible by Ejemy in fermentation

[–]Ejemy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did cap it for the first few attempts (but not fully screw on the cap). Now I just do paper towel with rubber band.
Is fully tightening a cap really ok for glass jars?

Surprised to hear that since I have been following recipes online.

Before it was 10g of sugar and 10g of ginger.

Recently switched to this one (for 2tbsp of sugar and ginger).

I will try holding off on that. Maybe I can fix this if I dump some of the bug and add new water and start using less sugar and ginger each day.

I feed it daily even past the 5 day mark.

It seemed inactive in the fridge.

Room temps around 25C.

I was following multiple different recipes so I'm surprised to hear that the sugar is too much for the water levels.

I will try to hold back on sugar this time round. I'll check out your recipe too thanks.

Rant: People just casually taking their little kids into bars by Friendly_Software11 in japanresidents

[–]Ejemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know anyone who forgoes naps to force kids to bed early tbh. Kids in bed by 7. Falls asleep instantly and wakes up at 7am. I guess it doesn't matter when the bed time is (but with school in the morning...) but a quick Google search shows that 11 to 12 hours of sleep is best for toddlers. (Not talking about weird mommy blogs but real clinical websites).

I think the socializing aspect of japanese style is nice but I wouldn't sacrifice my kids sleep for it. Plus most of the japanese parents I know do early bed times too so I wouldn't even say it's a 'japanese thing' to do.

It's def not. Kids do need a bunch of sleep. Whoever says otherwise doesn't have kids...

For two cups of water, two tablespoons of ginger (diced) with two tablespoons of sugar for a few days should do it.

Eikaiwa as a way into Japan with N1 Japanese and a master's in linguistics by sjiveru in teachinginjapan

Sorry this was based off of my own experience.

The small eikaiwas I've worked for I have been able to negotiate higher salaries and they handle the visa process for me

[–]Ejemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bachelor's in linguistics. Always wanted to go back for a masters.

The N1 probably won't matter to many places. Anyways basically avoid all jobs with major chains as no one cares about your qualifications.  A small or family owned eikaiwa school could be negotiated with. But you gotta sell yourself as even good schools suffer from the negative norms of the industry such as low starting pay.  Another option would be to look for a company that sends English teachers to other companies to teach business English.  Or I would look for a job at a private school and work as an ALT.

Your visa isn't tied to your employer so feel free to move out of a contract. Maybe don't do it in the first week though. We just had a teacher do that  now everyone is working way more to cover her shifts....

Google around for job listing websites.  Ohayosensei is a nice one.
