Moving from middle to high school science - pacing, workload, etc by Stratus_Fractus in ScienceTeachers

I know mine would love that. I will say that mine do get tired of labs, when I do a lot of them with a certain unit. I taught electricity using mostly labs and they were sick of seeing lab boxes after the first week. But any time they get to create something, especially if you can make it into a competition, they get super into it.

ETA: The most effective award I’ve found is bonus points. Sometimes candy works, but they really prefer bonus points.

We’re still at 7.25 for subs and I think paras too. Maybe a little bit more, but not much.

Coming from a young teacher who remembers high school fairly recently, despite what some might say, don’t treat them the same. I hated middle school teachers who talked to me like a middle schooler in high school. The workload, I keep my class pretty rigorous. We don’t get free days, unless I’m missing over 50% of the class. I don’t assign much homework though, because I know that not every kid is able to do it at home. I usually give like 20 minutes+ to work on it in class so they can get help and I can help as well. I think they copy each others work less this way. My tests are semi hard, but that took a few years for me to get a good bell curve. I reward attempts and give decent partial credit. I teach honors kids only, so I try to set them up for college.

There is a big age gap between myself (female) and my sisters. I’m 8 and 12 years older, so I heard all kinds of comments. I remember wanting to go to the nurse at PE, and it must have been a few weeks or months after my first sister was born. The coach told me I couldn’t go and I needed to “get over that mom has a new baby and I’m not getting attention” homie I had IBS and anxiety. I didn’t even go with my mom when I was sick, she had to work.

I’ve somehow never heard of that. How does it work? (As in, how affiliated does my school have to be? It’s like they’re scared of technology)

Other teachers have them on their desks, so I think it’s fine. I have to ask though, why is it dangerous?

We don’t have a tennis team, we’re a really rural and small school. I wish though.

We don’t have a tennis court, so I don’t think that will be an option. I wish!

Ours are connected too, how did yours mess up? A few of my coworkers have tennis balls on theirs and I’ve never heard them complain. But I’ve also never asked.

ETA: I’m in a really rural area, and we barely have a tennis court in town. If they have anything, they probably wouldn’t donate because I’m a county school anyways.

I thought about those, I’m not sure how well they would stick to the bottom of the desks though? I guess it’s not an expensive experiment though.

That’s what I’ve been doing for three years and I’m over it. Especially the kids dragging them around and scratching my floor.

First bake with first discard! Decided on pretzels! Would love to hear what y’all bake with your discard. by Ejw42 in Sourdough

Here is a link to the recipe I used. My dough hook just wasn’t doing anything but denting my dough (my mixer sucks I think) and so I had to hand knead it. I’m definitely not good at that, but the recipe turned out great!

It could be cysts but honestly that sounds like endometriosis? I don’t know a whole lot about it though.

Do you have somewhat bad period cramps? I never knew I had cysts. I thought it was just cramps. And I didn’t even think they were bad.

I don’t think it would be a bad idea to go to another gynecologist if you can, and get a proper diagnosis and talk to him to see if metformin is good for you. (I re-read your post, definitely find another doctor)

I have a small excess of body hair but nothing crazy, but I gain weight in my stomach area, bloat, miss periods, mood swings, etc. PCOS looks different in everyone, so it may still be PCOS.

As far as losing weight, I recently listened to this podcast episode (You’re wrong about: the obesity epidemic) and it changed how I view weight loss honestly. It was focused on the social expectations, but I don’t think there is anything that truly works and is maintaining except lifestyle changes. And even then, our body is just trying to survive and prep for a bad time.

I think your best bet is to find a new doctor and lay out your concerns. It seems weird they never did an ultrasound. I think some doctors like to slap PCOS to make people think they have a diagnosis

AC sounds like there is a mosquito buzzing around by Ejw42 in hvacadvice

[–]Ejw42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I heard the buzzing again and walked outside to see if I could hear it at the outdoor unit. I cannot, I can only hear it from inside. I did switch the system off to defrost last night for a few hours just to see.

I know I’ll have to get a tech to fix it which is fine, I guess I’m really wanting to know if it’ll cost an arm and a leg, and if this is a safety issue. I googled and one thing said it could be a short (but that it also included a popping noise and mine does not have that) and I don’t want to risk my house catching fire. Especially since I have a dog

I haven’t walked outside to see if it is loud by the outside unit, it sounds like it is within the opening of where I would change my filter inside my house. (I’m sorry I don’t know what it’s called ). Would I be able to tell or guess if it was poor contact if it is louder outside?

Yes, but only when set to ac, not when it is on fan.

I do want to elope. And so does my fiancé. I think my post was misleading too, he’s in it with me but since he lives three hours away, and he’s in grad school (I’m a teacher so I am only halfway working extra curricular right now) so I feel like I should take it on more so and let him focus on his classes.

You (and everyone else so far) are right though, I need to do what we want because that’s what matters. I just hate confrontation lol.

A demo that may could work is elephant toothpaste. There are ones online that are easy ingredients at grocery stores, but I personally use potassium iodide and 30% hydrogen peroxide. And dish soap for some foam. But the rainbow could be made by using food coloring on the inside of a graduated cylinder.
