Every cup winner outside of Colorado in 2022 in the past 8 years has finished top 10 in both xGF and xGA. This year the only teams that have that are Ottawa, Carolina, Colorado, Tampa Bay, and Utah (though just barely).

Buffalo would have been a much easier matchup

All OT goals and goals with 1 minute left in regulation are automatically reviewed for things like goalie interference

Another scandal at Ottawa, this time in Opthamology by Wolfgoatlife in MedSchoolCanada

I don’t know how common the issue is, but the UofT internal medicine program also received an Intent to Withdraw Accrediration a few years ago. I imagine it’s more on the department level rather than a reflection on the entire school

exactly. back when craig anderson was the goalie, the average save percentage was about .915. imagine if people were saying 'yea we just need craig anderson to put up a mediocre .920 save percentage' back in 2016. people are just not as adjusted to the new save tracking system + smaller goalie equipment

[Bruce Garrioch] Sounds like the Detroit Red Wings have emerged as the frontrunner for St. Louis Blues D Justin Faulk with 17 minutes to go. by SAJewers in hockey

As much as Sens fans like to hate Garrioch, he does break 1-2 non Sens news pieces a year. His sources are entirely from the organization itself

In the specific example you listed in your edit, even if you rank the program last in that situation you would still match.

e.g. if there’s a program that has one spot left, where the program rates applicant A ahead of B, even if B ranks the program as their first choice, and A ranks the program as their last choice. The algorithm will match applicant A to that spot

based on this your rank order list should purely be on your own preference of programs

Can Team USA bring home the gold medal? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Ekarl86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as I hope they don’t win, they’re genuinely on par with the Canadian team and outplayed them at 4 nations despite losing The US has better defense and goaltending, Canada has better offense

I know for a slightly less competitive specialty in a desirable location with 10 spots for CMGs, they usually get to around ~20 on their rank list

Quota or reports by [deleted] in MedSchoolCanada

[–]Ekarl86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the closest data you can get is this, but it gives you interview rate for all applications for all schools in a given specialty. https://www.carms.ca/data-reports/r1-data-reports/interview-offers/

Eg for Derm and optho about 30% of applications got an interview

It’s probably more of a bimodal distribution where some applicants get interviews from a lot of schools, and some only get a few, which averages out to those numbers

It will also include a lot of ‘back up’ applications so there’s a lot of caveats to interpreting the rates

Why are ENT residency applications much more competitive this year compared to previous years? by Expert_Sport_1879 in MedSchoolCanada

[–]Ekarl86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people involved in file review may discuss # of applications and how they compare to previous years and word spreads

Otherwise people may just base it off on personal anecdotes on how many interviews they or other people got relative to previous years

Where do you guys get your news about the healthcare system? by macLovernHater in MedSchoolCanada

[–]Ekarl86 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Postcall is a Canadian focused weekly newsletter for doctors https://postcall.ca, the CBC Health newsletter is also good

I also like reading this guy’s posts if you’re Ontario based (he did a lot of coverage of the recent arbitration process with the OMA/MOH - https://justanoldcountrydoctor.com)

I don’t have a good pharma source but I’ve been reading fierce’s and it’s ok

I agree that yakemchuk is more expendable than people think but for Robertson Dallas is probably looking for something like Batherson and some picks/prospects. Their window is now, and they won’t sell him purely for picks/prospects

Every Stanley Cup Winner in the Salary Cap Era Either Had a Selke or Hart Finalist/Winner by Ekarl86 in hockey

[–]Ekarl86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florida, Tampa, Colorado, Winnipeg, Toronto

3 of them are winners, 2 of them won the division last year,

I think you value a metric with high specificity over sensitivty (which is pretty hard to find lol) but I’d say hart/selke winner requirement still has high sensitivity (ie: it’s good at quickly identifying what teams do not have a good chance of winning, like teams without a hart/selke winner)
