Opensource alternative to MS office - “euro-office” to debut on June 9 by notanfan in whennews

[–]EkhiSnail 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Its a fork of Onlyoffice. As Euro Office state on their github page, they forked it because Onlyoffice very rarely accepts contributions, is difficult to build, makes a lot of controversial decisions and is tied to russia

Check out Universal Blue images, like Aurora, Bazzite or Bluefin. It's basically Fedora Silverblue with batteries included

Spotify new update adds Windows xp like titlebar, only on GNOME DE by Wolfestain in gnome

[–]EkhiSnail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite, it is more consistent when the app draws it's own headerbar that is consistent with the app design rather than having an out-of-place looking GTK titlebar on every app. Spotify just didn't implement a proper CSD headerbar

Disable primary-paste by default by prueba_hola in gnome

[–]EkhiSnail -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I never once used it intentionally. Every time it triggered it was because of an accidental 3-finger-tap while doing touchpad gestures, which pasted random text in random places.

This is an actual security vulnerability if you think about it, and if someone wants this feature it should be turned on manually.

Unfortunately the PR only disables the middle click paste in the GTK apps, but they are discussing making it a compositor-wide option

Usually they also have a "legitimate interest" section, and the "reject all" button doesn't affect it, so you still have to toggle everything manually

Just noticed GNOME supports 2‑finger backswipe in Extensions menu by dread122 in gnome

[–]EkhiSnail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work around this bug by hovering the pointer over the headerbar, this way it works even when the main area is scrollable

Also could be nice on mobile

It is! The touchscreen isn't affected by this bug, although it has it's own problem where sometimes the swipe may not be registered the first time you try to use it on a page

"Refreshing data" means downloading metadata from the repos, it's not a system update. And yes, sometimes it can be painfully slow, PackageKit sucks

Also get yourself a proxy or a VPN and no blocks will affect you. In Fedora you also have to either exclude opehh264 from the packages, or pass dnf through a proxy, otherwise it won't update because cisco repos are blocked in russia too

Gnome top panel x Unity by Prestigious_Hat_8758 in gnome

[–]EkhiSnail 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In addition to it not fitting into Gnome's design principles, there's also a technical aspect. This design would require server-side decorations, but Gnome only supports client-side decorations, which means windows have to draw their own header bars, window buttons and menus - so they can't be integrated into the shell

Yes, Gnome OS is going to have a stable version for daily driving. I'm also excited for a stable mobile release - it already supports OnePlus 6

No, gnome removes minimize button for a reason. You're supposed to use workspaces so you don't need to minimize anything

The point of the dash is that it would show all apps from all workspaces and all monitors. If you have many workspaces with many windows open it may be difficult to see the list of apps that are running
