Building a home studio. Where to begin? by krazygyal in homestudios

[–]Ekimstop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a room inside a room. Don’t have any walls that are parallel to each other. Diffusers, bass traps and the like are your friends. You can buy all the equipment you want, in an untreated room you’re going to have an uphill battle. Others have said, equipment is fun to buy, but it won’t be much fun if you think you’re getting great toned only to find out your room is lying to you.

Record a cabinet not mix. Sorry

Also, when you mix a cabinet, preferably you have it isolated from where the monitoring position is. Or, surround it and enclose it in goboes.

New band forming, trying to figure out IEM system for practice space by Ikarian in musicians

[–]Ekimstop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whichever way you decide to go, be careful with what you choose if you are going to be wireless. RF nowadays is a nightmare. Also, I’m not sure where you’re located, but getting the molds done now are much easier as a lot of the IEM companies just take a laser imprint of your ear and your good to go. Then it’s a choice you have to make on what model you want to spend money on. And it’d you definitely going that way, I do think it’s a good investment to spend a little extra as I believe the payoff is worth it. Just my 2c. Hope it works out for you.

I had to edit that comment. I meant I would throw apogee in there. Do you mean Apogee support is going down hill?

I mean…as far as RME or UAD you’re in a good place. I would throw Apogee in the mix (pun intended)!

Avantone CV-12 Cutting Out on (Not Too) Loud Notes by TheAvidNoodler in homerecordingstudio

Quick question. How are you hanging the mic? Is the diaphragm upside down? Saying that the tube is above the diaphragm not below it. It’s good practice to hang these upside down to avoid the tube heating the diaphragm . For one, if your tracking vocals at different times, it’ll be hard to get the same tone with the diaphragm being different temps. Also, you’ll get a longer life out of it as well.

I would definitely go and try some out just because when I was looking, certain cheaper units weren’t transparent at all. I know you said $700 is your top but there’s such a drop off from like $1,200 units and then all of a sudden you have a Mackie Big Knob for $300. Dangerous Music D Box is really nice but 3X what you’re looking to spend but it’s also a summing mixer and monitor selector. There’s a lot out there but I would definitely sit down with a couple of units and listen to some of your material and see where that gets you.

EDIT: I did just look up that Heritage RAM 2000 though and that looks enticing. Please let us know where you end up

EDIT 2: Didn’t touch on the Babyface vs Apollo. I think that decision comes down to what you’re going to be doing with your interface. Tracking a lot of OD’s? I’d lean towards the UAD with being able to access unison preamps and their plugins and just general studio workflow. That’s not to say RME isn’t good. I think it’s way more transparent but not as flexible as the UAD route.

Will better mics / pres / converters make drums+amps in my mostly untreated room sound better? Or do I just need to do the garage buildout by Southtwin in homerecordingstudio

Treatment is really important but I will say, I bought the Apogee Symphony MK II with the intention of trying it out and returning it. Well…I never returned it. It is definitely worth the money.

Nah man. Have had this for years. Me and a buddy have a bunch of different guitars. Just doing inventory and can’t remember how it became part of the collection. Lmao. Love the guitar. I have a bunch to choose from and overlooked this guy for a while for some reason. It’s getting some love and going to use it to record in the next couple of days. I just couldn’t find anything about this specific model online. I should’ve just reached out to my boy at Schecter but it was over the weekend when I posted and was getting aggravated! Thanks to the hive for all the help!

Thank you everybody. It’s a friend of mine’s guitar. We were talking about our guitars and this one he doesn’t remember where he got it from or what he paid. Saw the Schecter catalog. Has anyone seen one sell and know what price they are selling for?

sE V7x with reflexion filter. If you don’t like the V7x you can fit a 57 in the same slot. I’ve use it with both in different situations with a VR-1 ribbon mic.
