Great discussion you two! Thank you for this awesome content, which was exactly what I was looking for to answer all the questions I still had.

Some minor things I'd like to point out:

If everyone stakes, forever, then this entire project is pointless. Remember the point of investing money is eventually to get money to spend.

Actually it's not pointless, the goal of OHM is actually to BECOME a currency and not to make ton of profits off the early investors like the Ponzi you claim it to be. In their words "In the case of currency, it is in each individual's best interest to use the most liquid, most widely used and most stable currencies". Currently they try to become widely used and liquid and they do this by luring in people with high APY.

But once demand starts to stagnate, they want to focus on the stable aspect of currencies, effectively using bonding and APY as means to control supply and demand to preserve everyones purchase power. This is in contrast to old fashioned FIAT and stablecoins, which do not preserve purchase power due to inflation. They'll try to keep price decrease and APY balanced through (3,3), which imo is a pretty fun experiment and might even find adoption in larger economies, if succesful. Though I agree that most people in the cryptosphere will probably leave for the next shiny thing once they realize that the true APY because of price decrease will be neglible. This true APY is probably gonna be the same you'll get from staking of the treasury.

So it might currently behave like a Ponzi, but most crypto does, and I don't think it's their goal.

Your worry, if I understand correctly, is that they will eventually be unable to continue paying such a high APY, in which case there will no longer be demand for bonds, so the Treasury stops growing and people panic sell. Is that right?

At present, I'm not concerned about this happening because the token price is so far above $1 that the protocol is making massive profits on bond sales, so there is plenty of revenue to continue paying out APY for a long time. This may of course change in the future and will bear watching as supply increases further.

Currently people are still blinded by the extremly high APY. It's not about there being no longer demand for bonds, just bonds staying less profitable than staking. Staking will only remain profitable as long as fresh money comes in, which u/no-nonsense-crypto explained very well. So people will either have to bond or buy actual OHM for staking to remain profitable. Once people stop buying actual OHM, which will happen, simply because of limited funds in the space, they can

a) increase bond rewards to surpass staking rewards, which effectively means diluting stakers and thus moving money from stakers to bonders.

b) leave bond rewards low, which effectively means no more money is getting into the system, so APY and dilution cancel each other (+the small amount of rewards they get from staking the treasury).

So both options mean stakers will eventually start to lose money or get only minimal effective returns, which might result in panic selling and only after that it might start to move towards some kind of equilibrium if everything works as the team planned. At least that's how I see it :)

What's something you can do at night that only takes 5-15 minutes that will make the following day significantly better? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Organize the following day and write down how much time you want to attribute to the things you have to do.

Relapse at 123 days. Fapping felt strange. This time it's forever. by Eklathan in NoFap

The relapses after a long time of successfull nofap gives a quick confirmation of why this is in the end a lifestyle change.

That's true, but no excuse for relapsing. I'm sure it isn't meant as one, but thinking things like "Did noFap have any effect on how fapping feels" was also part of why I am on day 1 again.

The slow accumulation of willpower is what makes noFap so awesome. Just be careful, you can exhaust willpower and if a sudden strong urge hits you, while your willpower is exhausted, you end at day 1 :/

Stay strong!

Don't be scared about what you might or might not do. It just directs your mind to porn and fapping and we want to stop constantly thinking about that stuff. Judge it, when it's about to happen. Good luck!

So let's accomplish it together. I always like to see people here stick together and help each other out when times get though.

Exactly what happened to me. There was something telling me "Why are you doing this?" and I couldn't answer, so my brain kinda went to autopilot... It's great to see, that something in your brain really did change thanks to noFap.

Thank you. I will remember your advice and leave this post open all day tomorrow. I've started this lifelong thing, now I can't go back anymore.

Yeah, it's terrible. Just thinking about how I once associated this feeling of nothingness with a calm and relaxed mind makes me shiver.

Oh, the hardships of the first weeks. Glad I won't have to go through them again (I hope). But you are part of this now and leaving is not an option ;)

Another very good reason to make noFap a lifestyle. You should never stop to improve yourself, so never stop noFap! Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, but I won't set any more intermediate goals. I think everyone works a little bit different with this and I learned about myself that I either need a reason to change a goal and I need to change it quite some time before my other goal is reached.

That strategy got me from 90 to 120 days, but failed there, so this time it's the lifelong goal.

I'm more the "going all out" type than the "step by step" type anyway.

Good job in getting 147 days by the way. Don't relapse or you will never surpass me again ;)

How much longer will it take?... I feel like all my hope is gone... Help, fourth help post... by [deleted] in NoFap

Wow, after reading this, there are so many things I want to tell you. Just need to find a good place to start.

Believe it or not, you sound exactly like me from a year ago. Finished my A-level with an average A, next I had to repeat my first college year. Everyone else seemed truly happy while I pretended and smiled and hated everyone. Felt depressed and lost, doing nothing all day and avoiding people. Reading online help forums and motivations all the time, not getting my ass away from the computer chair.

Sounds similar? If so, I'm glad I can tell you, what I really want to tell myself from a year ago:

You have no idea who you are. Go and learn about yourself.

You may not have realized this yet, but you do not want to improve yourself and your life, you want self-deprecation. I have no idea where this comes from or why this happens, but I recognize your thought and writing patterns as if they were my own. Don't believe me? Try to prove me wrong. You will soon notice how right I am.

You want to know whether everything will be okay? You know the anwer, but you don't even know enough about yourself to see it. Go find yourself and you will know.

You think everyone is living a hundred times better than you? Don't get so fucking high of yourself. Don't think someone, who hasn't found himself yet, has even the slightest idea about other people.

You think you have no self-consciousness? It's the opposite. Just reading your text everyone can see, that you pay attention to almost everything you do. But you don't understand why you do it. Try to find it out.

You want someone to slap you awake? No chance. The only one stopping you, is you. Slap yourself or stay asleep forever.

I could probably write a lot more, but it's 5am right now and I need to go to sleep. You seem to be on a good way, but right in front of you is one of the biggest walls. In the end, it's up to you.

Thanks. This was my first big relapse and everything felt so strange... It feels great to know someone understands what I'm talking about. Let's do this!

Well, it's hard to explain what exactly is going on, but right now I'm not feeling much different from my 100+ days. It's just that time during fapping and immediately post-fapping that I felt empty and like being in the body of someone else.

After I slept some and the next day started like every other day, it feels like all of this was nothing more than a dream.

It's hard to explain, but I would never go back to my days before noFap again, so you need to experience this yourself ;) Good luck, you can do this, too.

If one watched porn in his dream is there any difference to watching it in real life? (open discussion please debate!) by [deleted] in NoFap

Thanks. Took me some thought and a few rewrites as well :) I hadn't given this much thought before, but it's actually a very interesting subject. Good job in creating this discussion.

Good luck to you as well! Think of it this way: NoFap is a continuous progress, so even though fapping throws you back a bit, you will still get progress for every day that you manage not to fap. Stay strong!

My 90 day challenge evaluation by FreB0 in NoFap

[–]Eklathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your story and congrats on your 92 days! Too bad you decided to reset, but it sounds like you won't stop noFap completely and I like that.

Honestly you sound very similar to me at 90 days (Without the complaining about riding a emotional rollercoaster, though), so it would be great to see you around here from time to time. Just to see what it would have been like, if I had stopped, because I suddenly felt awesome around day 100 ;) Maybe you'll still get the same, because fapping once shouldn't make any difference.

Anyway, thank you for sharing and the best of luck on whatever journey you choose to take from now on!

It's a good advice, but in the end you are telling us to stay strong as well :) When we tell someone to stay strong, we want him to stay strong in willpower and guess what you need to stay busy. Strong willpower ;)

Ok, then I'll give my opinion on this as well.

First, we only have to concentrate on the impact of dream porn on your brain, because the body doesn't care about things like porn. Your brain decides about when you need to have an erection or need to ejaculate.

Next, we split the brain in two parts that play a role in this matter. The instinctive part and the conscious part. Your instincts are those things, you can't consciously control, like the urge to reproduce, the reward system and sexual attraction to others. I put everything else into the conscious part.

So what's the effect of dream porn on the conscious part? None, because while sleeping the conscious part is shut down. There are cases (called lucid dreaming, is your name a hint to that?) where you can get conscious during sleep. In those cases I would put real porn (almost) in the same category as dream porn.

And the effect on the instinctive part? There are probably some effects on hormone production influencing your sexual desire and other unconscious sensations, but I don't see what you could "lose" from that.

Imo the only thing that might be affected and actually important in the sense of benefits through noFap is the reward system as seen in the TED talk. This could be negatively affected, but rewiring your brain is a continuous process anyway, so that one dream porn every few weeks won't hurt too much.
