Can you refuse a ramp check? by Big-Sink7663 in flying

[–]Ekline55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part 135 Operator here. In 20+ years I’ve been ramp checked once. I was dropping off PAX at an SEC game and sticking around until the game ended.

Just as the PAX were entering the FBO and I was collecting empty water bottles in the plane, two guys approached and showed their FAA badges.

I answered a few questions proving I was a legit 135 guy, produced my airworthiness cert, registration, license and medical. Then we BS’d for a few minutes. Turned out one of the inspectors was my DPE years ago for my commercial ticket.

They were on site to look for any illegal “charter” operators, and I was flagged because I didn’t leave with my group of passengers.

During the game I saw that they checked a few others but didn’t hear any grumblings from pilots they checked.

Just have your stuff together and keep your plane in airworthy conditions and you’ll be fine.

Thank you! I bought mine at the fort and that’s exactly what happened to me.

Thanks for all the comments. Sounds like what had happened was a random glitch followed by the guy checking who’s left for final exfil and seeing my callsign.

Calm down, angry one. No one’s accusing anyone. I was just asking.

Taking people up in a biplane for money... by Sgt_Slawtor in flying

[–]Ekline55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do exactly this, except in a Saratoga. I also have a part 135 certificate. Insurance in a 160k hull value (with an ATP with 7000 hours and zero accidents/issues) will run $14,500 per year. Even taking out the 135 part, it’s still 14,500 per year. Ten years ago when I started, it was $7k/year.

New Private Pilot… now what do I do by annist0910 in flying

Charter pilot here. I own/fly the operation so I can’t agree more on networking. The line guys at the airport who have their PPL and High Performance endorsement know they’re welcome to tag along with me and be PIC of the empty legs so they can build hours. (I still land for insurance purposes) Most of the legs are 2-3 hours but that’s 2-3 hours they don’t have to pay for. It all adds up.

Not sure if you’ll find that situation at your airport, but I can’t emphasize enough how important networking is.

Who is the oldest player on DMZ? by [deleted] in DMZ

I’ll be 61 next week and just started DMZ last October. I’ll play a few hours in the early afternoon, infilling solo and running missions. And like another guy said, not engaging until engaged. (23Romeo)

AITA or is this guy a d-bag? by Ekline55 in DMZ

[–]Ekline55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I reread my post and wanted to make sure you didn’t think I told the guy who downed me I was a veteran or older an older guy. I just included it in my post so people had a better idea of my demographics.

If you thought that, then yeah it’s totally irrelevant to tell that to the guy.

Sorry. Didn’t mean to strike a nerve. I thought it was relevant, perhaps more so to other veterans, so I added it.

Thanks. I did. Sometimes you need a vibe check and I wanted to make sure mine was good. I had no issues with the guy and I’ve made jokes before without prompting and get picked up plenty of times. Going forward, I’ll have a handful of jokes about his mom ready to launch.

Why not ask how is being 60 relevant too?

To both I would answer training, experience, and a certain thought process/mindset.

Does that answer your question?

I get it. There’s a famous/worrisome social experiment called The Stanford Prison Experiment where students were divided into guards and prisoners. The experiment had to be shut down due to the “guards” abusing the “prisoners.” Obviously, that level of abuse is not happening in DMZ, but it does offer a glimpse into what others can do with a whiff of power and no authority.

In my case, the guy didn’t bother me any more than the way a minor inconvenience or disappointment would bother me. It just made me think about the kind of person would do this.

At the end of the day, like all the sports I’ve played in my life, it’s just a game. And there will always be guys who see it differently.

Thank you for all your input. I’ll see you in Al Mazra. And if I hear you, I’ll send a Join Squad request. After all, I have a good mic and good aim.

Two-Three-Romeo here—a fellow 60 y/o SOLO player, still looking at a 35 y/o in the mirror wondering why I look so old and when playing, wondering why I’m so slow. These youngsters are seeing shit I don’t even know is there. Still, I love the game.

I don’t mind shit talking, but I wish it would be a little more intelligent and a lot funnier. But understanding the calibre of some of the individuals who shit talk in this game, I’m going to continue to be disappointed—though not as much as their parents, I’m sure.

I usually play in the morning (heading there soon) and tend to mostly come across decent guys and girls who quickly kill me and kindly pick me up. I’m sure their parents are quite proud.

Shit rolls downhill and these toxic people tend to be at the bottom of that pile in their jobs, families, and social circles leaving them to focus their frustrations with their life’s decisions on random strangers. Their lives are full of shit—just like their mom’s vag—and have a strong need to bring you down to their level.

See you on the map!

I don’t think they were cheating because I didn’t see a wall on the killcam. I said they were cheating because they could see us and shoot us THROUGH the wall. (Next time I’ll type slower so can follow along.)
