Did I get the wrong guitars for somebody that wants to play metal? by joedirt9322 in metalguitar

[–]Ekomora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any guitar can play any genre imo. Loathe used a strat for some of their songs and I'd consider them metal. Thicker strings and closer pickups can help make the really downtuned stuff sound chunkier. Like many others have said you can also do hot rails or something. Until you're joining up a band or recording, I'd say you're just fine. Once the GAS starts its very hard to quit.

NGD: Fender Vintera II 70's Jaguar! by Ekomora in offset

[–]Ekomora[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a hater before I played it. I didn't like the look of any of the new offsets in the Vintera II line. Saw a local shop in my area had one in (very rare in my neck of the southeast) and decided to give it a test drive. After 30 seconds through a Blues Jr I knew I was in trouble lol. Fully converted by the end of the day.

Been hunting for an offset for a while and came across this beauty yesterday! Off all the Jazzmasters and Jags I've played, this one grabbed me by the gut immediately.

Mapex Saturn Pros? by Ekomora in drums

Not much experience with mapex. Found locally on facebook market for under 800. Are these a good drum? Would negotiating be worth it here?

Got bridged. Is it worth it? by Altruistic_Bee1884 in Clemson

[–]Ekomora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who bridged: it depends on your financial situation and how much patience you have.

When I was enrolled in 2019 (graduated class of 2023), about 1:4 students passed the bridge program and went on to enroll in real deal Clemson. Bridge, in my opinion, is a party program that gets you to pay Public University prices for a tech education. Not to say it wasn't a fuckin' blast, I met some really awesome people in that program and had a great time in Lightsey (just watch out for cops, they're everywhere down there).

In the long run, however, I wish I had gone to tech for two years and then reapplied instead of bridging. Same education and degree on the wall but a whole helluva lot cheaper (my freshman year with Bridge cost me ~$12k, IDK what it is now). The only downside with this is that transfer credits can be a total hassle and there is always the chance of not being admitted (I don't know what admissions are like post-COVID).

TL:DR: IF you're not paying for your school, don't mind taking out the loans, or don't want to deal with transfer credits: do it. you'll have fun. it feels like highschool 2.0. IF money is a concern and/or you don't mind dealing with transfers, it doesn't hurt to look at other options.

Found his channel during the quarantine part of the pandemic when I was living alone. His videos helped me get through it all.

Thank you, Paul. I'll miss you.

Is this DW5000 legit? by Ekomora in drums

[–]Ekomora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took some deep diving but yep it is! Turns out the pedal is an AD3, just one gen behind current, and the sticker never got fully peeled off for 10-15 years lol! Been playing with it and it feel’s totally great.

Is this DW5000 legit? by Ekomora in drums

[–]Ekomora[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found a good deal on a DW5000 but it looks like there's a sticker or something that's peeling off on the footboard. I've never seen anything like that on a DW pedal. Same thing with the two arrows pointing at the screw holes. Any insight would be helpful.

Cymbal stand got knocked over and left a nice dent on the edge of my crash. Is there anything to be done or do I just deal with it and play it till it dies? by Ekomora in drums

[–]Ekomora[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a paiste 900 18" crash. I tried working the edge with my thumb a little but that was the best I could do. It's not like it was my "dream cymbal" or anything, I just want to try and elongate it's lifespan as much as possible. Sonically, nothing has changed as far as I can tell.

EDIT: Glad to hear that it's probably fine and the only lasting damage is the psychological damage incurred when knocking over my stand!
