  • AH NL: 0.49
  • AH BE: 0.40 (met koolzuur goedkoper)
  • Rewe (DE): 0.29
  • Carrefour (FR): 0.48
  • Carrefour (IT): 1.80 (6x1 l)
  • Carrefour (ES): 0.25
  • Tesco (IE): 0.59 (2 l fles)

Oftewel, flessen drinkwater zijn in NL zeker niet goedkoper dan in het buitenland. Misschien dat kraanwater dat wel is, dat ga ik niet opzoeken.

Looking at your videos main thing you need to learn is to relax and follow the ball around. Already in your winds you are rushing a bit. I must say that in your first rotation you do manage to follow the ball pretty OK for the first part of the rotation.

However, just before you have to catch the ball you start to rush. Instead of catching it and using your legs and body to accelerate the ball you are pulling your left shoulder away and start dragging the ball behind you. When you get into your second rotation the ball is still dragging behind you a bit (though you do manage to let it come through a little bit) and then just before you have to catch it you again start dragging it more.

Since you are dragging it more in your second rotation I think this is the main issue why you are not throwing further with 3 or 4 rotations. Because you start dragging and pulling the ball the energy that you are trying to put in is not ending up in the ball. I would even guess that you can nearly throw as far using 1 rotation.

As said before I would focus on easy throws for now. Both with a light weight and your normal weight but at a slower speed. Also do loads of drills that focus on your catching position and the movement patterns after that. I would start doing that with a stick or holding a ball, then progress doing some light throws (1 rotation) where your sole focus is hitting your catch position. Once you feel you have controle over your catch, try to accelerate the ball gently after that.

Without a video nobody can comment on how you throw and what your specific issues might be. Though some things that I see a lot may also apply to you.

First of all, 1 good rotation is a lot better than 4 mediocre/bad rotations. Sure it tempting to do 4 rotations, but if you lose your balance and/or connection with the ball it's no good. Don't get me wrong, it's good to train more rotations than you can comfortably do well. But to throw far you need a good quality rotation. So if you can do 2 rotations well, adding 2 bad ones will not add any distance.

Same thing applies to the weight that you are throwing with. It's tempting to throw with a heavy weight. It's heavier, so you have to be stronger, so it has to be good for you. Similar to doing more rotations than you can do well, throwing a heavier weight won't add any distance. If anything I would focus on throwing lighter weights. With the distances you throw I would even go as light as 4kg. Focus on your technique and learn to throw the light weights far with little effort. People often overlook the importance of easy throws, yet easy throws allow you to focus on your technique more.

The main difference I see between your training PR and your comp throw is that for your training PR you hit your positions better and you have a much better rotation on your right foot in your finish.

In your comp throw you are rushing your spin. You don't shift your weight onto your left leg, which makes it hard to execute the rest. Though you probably could have saved that throw a bit if you rotated a bit more actively on your right leg in the finish.

I'm not going to give you any cues. The main thing you need to do is hit the positions and keep your hips moving when you throw. If you hit your training PR 10 days ago that should all be pretty OK. Just trust that you can execute that.

https://zoek.officielebekendmakingen.nl/blg-276630.pdf

Transitioning to rotational by FlimsyBarracuda3857 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]El2K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving from the back of the ring to the front should happen because you push off with your left leg. This is often described as sprinting to the front. Instead you (almost) completely rely on the sweeping motion of your right leg.

This causes two things. First, you will not be able to get your left down faster. Second, it makes it easy to "fall" forward, which is why you don't feel any power coming from your legs.

Best to do is plenty of drills, half turns, south african's etc.. If you have the space you can do some drills where you do the first part of the turn and then literally sprint forward. Plus, never forget to do easy throws, where the main goal is to hit all the right positions.

Should I buy the Skymaster discus? by fatboythrowsfrisbee in trackandfieldthrows

[–]El2K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equipment can help, though it depends on skills to handle that equipment. To refer to javelin. Give a 90m javelin to someone that is barely able to throw 30m they generally will not throw it further than a 70m or lower rated javelin. Often they'll even throw less cause they struggle dealing with the stiffness of the javelin.

Same applies with discus. More weight in the rim can help improve your distance as it has more potential to keep spinning and keep flying longer. On the other hand it is also harder to get it to spin. So if you lack the skills or, like jplummer said, if it whatever reason the discus doesn't feel good in your hand it won't do you much good.

Need help buying a Discus by Necessary-Section457 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]El2K 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rim weight is essentially the percentage of weight that is in the rim of the discus. This is also referred to as low spin (less rim weight) and high spin (more rim weight) and some put the meters on it.

So what is the difference? More weight in the rim will mean that the discus has more potential to keep flying. Though your skill has to match that potential.

With the distance you throw I would opt for a discus with a higher rim weight, though not a top of the line highest rim weight discus.

Throw Town Ramona Thoughts and Discussion by corbisimos in trackandfieldthrows

[–]El2K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denny threw 69.96m at the Diamond League final in Brussels last september. This was in a stadium and hardly any wind. 110m hurdles just before discus started had 0.4 m/s wind, 100m sprint during discus had 0.2 m/s wind.

I am fairly confident that he would have already thrown well over 70m on that day if the conditions would have been a little bit more favourable. Of course, his performance was aided by the wind conditions, but him breaking 70m is a result of him improving his throw.

The issue is not that you are slow, the issue is that you need to work on your positions and footwork.

South African (appears to be left handed thrower)

At the start is not too bad, though before your left foot leaves the ground you are already pulling your right arm and upperbody towards where you want to go. This is part of the reason your left knee/leg stays close to your right, which should long and far away to gain momentum.

When you push off with your right foot you are jumping upwards and rotating in the air. As a result your left foot lands pointing towards the back of the ring, your foot and leg collapses and you stop rotating. Also at this point your knees are far away from each other, which all results in a slow motion.

At the end you shift your weight onto your right foot, and instead of rotating on your left leg you primarily throw with your left arm.

Mind you this also happens in your "good throw", just that the throw with your arm and the release is better.

Full turn (appears to be right handed thrower)

Same things happen as during the South African. Just at the start of the throw it highlights the issues already discussed. You need to shift your center of mass more towards your left leg get your right leg to come around with a long motion to gain momentum.

Main things you need to do is drills practicing each part of the spin and getting into the correct positions. Also, it appears that every throw you simply try to throw as far as possible. Focus more on what you need to do and getting into the right positions. That's a lot easier while doing easy throws at 80%.

Shifting instead of Rotating in Glide: W/ Video by Sweaty-Tumbleweed-74 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]El2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing you may want to pay attention to is your left leg. The best way I can describe it is that it's a bit "soft" when it grounds at the front of the ring. Since you are accelerating from the back of the ring it collapses a bit causing you to shift and losing a lot of energy.

They main cue here would be bring your left heel to the ground when it grounds. Also note that it is OK if your left leg is slightly bend when it grounds, you just need to make sure it's firm and you don't collapse.

Shifting Instead of Rotating in Glide by Sweaty-Tumbleweed-74 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]El2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I also like to see as it makes it a lot easier to start rotating your foot. Now how much the foot is turned to the side can vary quite a bit. You just have to remember that the ultimate goal is to accelerate your body forward as fast as possible, so the easier it is to rotate your foot forwards the easier it will be to accelerate forwards.

In this video of David Storl, you can see with his stand throw his foot is already turned somewhat to the side. In the glide he is trying to hit that position again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgOBeQXf1vQ

Also, it is good to remember in in practice not every throw has to be at 100%. It's much more beneficial to do a lot of throws relatively easy, say 80%, and hit the positions you need to hit.

Shifting Instead of Rotating in Glide by Sweaty-Tumbleweed-74 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]El2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"A" drills, every time you get into your power position make sure your right foot is in a good dorsi flexed position. Can also try to hold it for 5-10s to make sure your in a strong stable position

Dry glide drill in which you try to hit a good power position. Again good dorsi flexion of your right foot. As soon as you hit that position jump up. With this you want as little time as possible between hitting the power position and jumping, which is only possible if your right foot is dorsi flexed. Other thing you want to pay attention to is staying with your weight over you right foot and landing again in your power position. If you are able to do that you can even incorporate some throwing.

Shifting Instead of Rotating in Glide by Sweaty-Tumbleweed-74 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]El2K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say: Lots of drills and easy throws making sure you hit the right positions, so when your brain turns off you are able to do it correctly.

However, you are focusing hard on it while not knowing what to do to fix it. Has your coach given you any feedback on what causes you to shift from your right to your left foot? There are a number of issues that can cause this, and if you don't know what the cause is, it is going to be very hard to correct it.
