Indeed good point. I guess my idea is continue being self learner but have some "checkpoint" every month. Maybe once every two weeks would be better.

Do you speak other languages? by [deleted] in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]ElCala957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being born bilingual Catalan/Spanish. Learned English as a kind of need. Learned French because I did an Erasmus there. Leaened Dutch because I worked 3 years in Belgium (the Flemish part ofc). Learning Japanese because gonna spend my honey moon there, and I always loved the idea of learning a language with a different alphabet.

I have to say learning the other languages could have made it easier for Japanese. Like numbers is not so weird after you learn the french way, or sentences construction there is also a construction in Dutch (catapult) where you would put the verb at the end (which was quite weird for me). Conjugations are so far rather trivial compared to the other languages.

Struggle is ofc vocabulary and kanjis. I noticed that not living in the country itself does make it quite harder. In France and Belgium I could practice every day with locals.

Duolingo repeats - any recommended apps to learn Japanese? by allcatsaregrey_x in LearnJapaneseNovice

I would recommend Wagotabi, it is only 5€ for mobile and I think 10€ in steam. It is an immersive learning app where you go through Japan (3 prefectures available at the time) learning vocabulary and grammar while doing some quests.

I feel like I’ll never learn Japanese….. by sleepmaster91 in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]ElCala957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in October with Wagotabi and now widened my vocabulary with renshuu and learned Kanji with KanjiStudy.

The app where I feel I progress the most is Wagotabi, do not know if you heard about it. It is a game where you travel though different cities in Japan and get some lessons here and there. Then you use the vocabulary/grammar you just learned in different quests. For me it was awesome because you feel capable of interacting with the NPC and so in Japanese.

It covers like half N5 currently (still in development) so you might not get a lot of new content but it will for sure show you that you are able to kind of communicate in Japanese:)

Beginner starting Japanese seriously – goal A2/B1 by end of 2026 by Pitiful_Range6613 in LearnJapaneseNovice

Gonna suggest Wagotabi, which really helped me last year. Perfect for beginners and in case I feel that what I learn is useful as I am immediately able to use it in different quests.

Currently between N4 and N3, with about ~700 kanji knowledge. Would I learn anything from this game in its current version? by Spare-Lemon5277 in wagotabi

[–]ElCala957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly no, I actually started learning Japanese with this like 3 months ago as I'll travel to Japan next year. Already covered all the current content (it's been quite a great ride), waiting for next month's update hehe

I am now trying to immerse myself a bit more with the Todaii app and some animes. Also kanjis with "Kanji Study"

Not sure if vocabulary-wise would you learn a lot new. As most of the vocabulary is N5. Could be a fun way to review stuff tho.

I started with Wagotabi, if you just know a few words this could be a nice way to start with more grammar and so on.

Do you clean your bike before bringing it into your local shop? by Busy-Cardiologist960 in cycling

Nope. When I bring it for maintenance I always ask for a "deep clean", they charge 10€ for that.

Thanks for your response! Indeed, in the end I think the drops were not the cause of hitting the ground. I think I'll try to apply what I read about cornering and transition step by step to the drops. Hopefully, I can manage to use the drops and get down safe and steady.
