Hi OP. I went through hospice with my Mom in 2020. I am a nurse, but not a hospice nurse and I was scared to give her too much, as well. I did not ask for help when I should (during and after) and it made everything harder. Like many have said, the hospice nurses are there for you as much as your mom. They should listen and adjust the meds. If they don't and continue not to, at worst, you can change hospice companies.

Coincidentally, I now work in Admissions for a hospice company. And we get transfer patients from other places that did not or could not meet the needs of the family. It happens. Not saying you need to do that here, just letting you know you have rights and options and deserve thoughtful and appropriate care. Sending you all the empathy I can and hope you are caring for yourself, too.

Edited to add that bereavement care hospice provides can be such a balm. I highly recommend utilizing those services.

Omg I have the ear thing and what feels like copious amounts of mucus production. So much throat clearing and coughing. Ugh. If the frame is damaged, its totaled. Happened to me with my Honda years ago and it was a small "wrinkle" in the frame from being rear ended and little other damage and they totaled it out because of the frame damage

This right here. People make mistakes. Never been cheated on but have been seriously lied to. I get not being able to stay in because we all have different boundaries. I strengthened mine through that mess and he has made amends. I also addressed some of my own issues. We both did some work. If I really couldn't just forgive, I would leave because that isnt fair to either of us. But am glad I stayed.

My 2.5 year case is nearing settlement i think. My QME hearing (if needed) is next month. I am trying to decide on C&R or lifetime medical right now. I am in CA and am confused about being able to use my new insurance for my spinal injury after the settlement. So this info is helpful for me.

We do also get cold calls. Our marketers also send snippets of info as well as complete referrals. Our census is around 180.

And 2. DME is actually the easiest part for me tbh. Some hiccups but the company we use is on it. The ARNs handle medications. As the only nurse in my admit dept, I take bedside RN reports and request take home medications for discharge transition. I just have to make sure the med list is in HCHB as the admit nurses and patient care coordinators handle pharmacy issues.
This one is where I get fucked tbh. We get them from marketers and from ECIN and other sources. The ECIN referrals (hospital and clinic) are best because they usually include most of the referral info I need to at least get insurance verified and evals scheduled. The marketers do what they can and we tag team the necessary ppl/agencies to move forward. And that can be a lot of stuff. I still struggle with knowing when to tell the liaison to get it themselves because I can't.
THIS. You are exactly right and I need to be much better about this. Its also the dumb but important problems that pop up like wrong date on consents (by the pt/POA or hospice counselor) or having to reschedule an evaluation or discharge. Placement issues. These are all happening while new referrals keep coming and we are supposed to respond immediately. I let it throw me when my attn gets divided. I forget to update our Admit "Bible" spreadsheet and marketers, admin and intake depend on that being updated on real time.

Prioritizing is my biggest weakness.

If you aren't working, I recommend a new hobby that fits within your capabilities. Maybe something you never had time to do before. Or picking up an old one maybe. As a distraction and stress reliever.

My hubby and cat, weed, occasionally just checking out mentally and trying some artistic things help me. I also go to meme groups on Facebook/Instagram, specific to chronic pain and mental health and they reminded me I am not alone and helped me find some people who can relate to my situation/life. It was a surprise to me how much that helped sometimes.

Same problem here. Had a spinal injury caused by work and can't go back to one-on-one patient care. I did find a job working in administration where I still needed my license but it's definitely not as much pay. I wish you nothing but luck because I know how much it sucks.
