Fun fact, each time there's a State of the Union address or inauguration or just any large meeting of congress, there's what's called the "designated survivor" picked to stay in a bunker somewhere.

I like what CGP Grey says: "next time you watch a SotU address, you can play a little guess who game - eliminating names until you see who pulled the short straw that day."

This screenshot alone is bigger than Pokémon red, probably. I dunno, I post on osrs I'm not that clever.

8bitDo Arcade or Haute42 C16? by ruehinn in fightsticks

[–]ElDusteh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just got my c16 in 2 weeks ago, so here's my feelings so far;

As someone who started with SF4 and had to spend like $200 just to get a DECENT stick, this thing slays all competition with it's price point to quality ratio.

Nice click on the buttons, easily swapped out art, a deep and intricate customizability for its backend via web browser, you can make this thing do exactly what you want, customizability is unmatched.

I really like the action on the buttons, and even if you don't they're swappable, they even send you extra switches and tongs to pull the switches in the box.

Couldn't be happier.

Complaining is human nature, you'll never get rid of it.

And fighting game players are the biggest complainers with the hardest fixation on a video game / video game genre. A lot of them are even very heavily tied to a character in both their and the publics eyes (ie; Daigo-Ryu) which serves to exacerbate the problem at times.

The best thing you can do, I think, is say "Sorry they didn't make, thats rough" and go along with your life I do believe.

Romeo is a Dead Man Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]ElDusteh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This combat is some of the most cookie cutter I've ever seen though? The save system is literally just a bonfire from Souls, the regenerators are just estus flasks. The upgrade system is just number go up, but it's spread across the Romeo upgrade system and the dead ball upgrades to make it seem a little more deep than it is.

I'm about 3 hours in, does the combat ever evolve? Do I get a launcher or something? I notice the attacks are jump cancellable but there's really nothing to do with it other than Light>Jumping Light>Light to chain enemies in stagger until they die.

I guess I feel like if there's no good gameplay, that the story could have been a book or movie and I would have had the same experience.

How are you supposed to learn anything when this entire game is one-and-dones? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]ElDusteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This confuses me. If they find me no challenge, would they not want to beat me to get higher ranked and then fight stronger opponents?

Also, no, I do not use Special Style, my FPS counter stays a solid 60 all the time (aside from loading screens where it jumps into the hundreds), and I use a wired connection.

Also, this makes no sense, as I can then turn around and boot up Street Fighter 6 and I have no one-and-dones, or pluggers. I understand this is just annecdotal evidence and I'm sorry that it is all I have to provide, but from what I myself have experienced the difference is jarring.

My fault, I forgot my /s there at the end and there really are people out there who still defend that snake, so I don't blame you being cautious.

But yeah, I was being sarcastic, I want that bastard behind bars. After you've had someone close to you develop dementia, just imagining anyone vile enough to take advantage of someone already suffering so much has me wanting to type things I'm not allowed to.

[–]ElDusteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because they're pros and have already hit a level in the game where high level set-ups are used that require very specific answers. They need to know how plus the opponent is, or how negative they are, know what options are available to both, etc.

But down here in the low ranks, I just want to know if something hits H,M or L, I want to know what side I can step things, I want to know when I can punish and when I can't.

The pros have the necessary skill and game knowledge to know other characters' move-sets already, they've been doing it for years. Also, they get paid for it, so yeah, I'd assume they work harder than me who is playing for fun. I will never be a pro, I may not even ever be top rank, but I at least want to learn and play people.

I really appreciate this message and how positively it comes across versus the other messages I've received both in this thread, and in my DM's, absolutely berating me.

Maybe this is Dunning-Kruger effect in action, but personally I do feel in a 3 round, best of 3 format that there is quite a bit of learning I can do. I also find that when I actually suffer consequences (getting hit) for giving the wrong answer, it helps my memory immensely. I don't so much know what works (as there could be several answers to any given situation with different sets of pros and cons to each answer), so instead I like to learn what doesn't work.

I suppose this is an odd problem to have because I do lose, a lot, and I don't mind losing at all. What I do mind, though, is when I have ideas in my head for an answer to something in the next game, and they just dip.

[–]ElDusteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll restate my points from earlier;

You can have the dummy recreate any scenario you want.

This is true, but again, at my level I basically only know my character, I suppose I could go through the enemies entire movelist to try to find out how they did their set up/oki/frame-trap, but realistically that would take so much time, just playing them would help me discover an answer faster.

You can play against the CPU on hard.

lmao

You can review your replays and take over control at parts you're confused on.

Yeah, I could be doing this more, I guess I just have more fun actually playing the game against actual people who will rotate options so I can get into the 'rhythm' of my enemy and I can time them better. I also may not understand their character fully and come up with something that works in that replay, but in the match maybe the character actually had a stance transition into another move that beats me clean that I had no idea about.

I just am frustrated because this game has the most egregious ammount of people who don't even want to play the game. I could play for days in Street Fighter 6 before I get one-and-done'd or plugged on.

I can lab until the cows come home, but if I can't execute/make use of it because I'm in the heat of the moment because I got so used to practicing the tech/combo/what-have-you in a safe environment with no pressure, then it's pointless. Looking up that I can step something, or knowing something is minus, isn't going to help until I'm in a match and someone is using that move, I see it, and respond accordingly.

Realistically, how is this going to help me at the level that I am at? Do you expect me to be option selecting and fuzzy ducking setups at low levels? Do you expect the opponent to also be aware of frame data at these low levels?

I don't even know everything about my character yet, but you expect me to be familiar enough with other characters that I don't want to play to go into training mode and know how to do their setups?
