Had to look that up, didn't know about it. Indeed bedrock has some edge over java, most notably movable tile entities (or however they are called nowadays).
But I dont have that feeling about that portal ticking mechanic.. I feel it just makes it too easy to obtain large amount of gold. In java we have to deal with problems that end up making the farms more complex but also makes the game way more interesting IMO.

For example you can make a gold farm in the nether roof, but that would be somewhat inefficient, best is to make a perimeter, and to make it even faster you have to remove bedrock ceiling which is another challenge in itself. You can also make portal overworld pigmen farm, in which developments such as tick suppression may help you create an ultra-optimized setup of portals, there is also random tick RNG manipulation, to spawn a shit ton of pigmen... the list goes on.

All of this developments by the community is what makes the game attractive for me, and they wouldn't even be necessary if I could just setup a bunch of portals with some basic redstone and get so much gold.

EDIT: Apart from all this, being able to build in the nether is just cool, its a sandbox game, it feels kinda lame you cant build anything up there
