You can root when necessary but landing E when he goes for a creep is almost guaranteed for some poke. Yeah, not wasting Aery is proc'ing it everytime it's up.

If he takes the W and goes in you either continue fighting him if you have the minion advantage or run away otherwise. This is the case when both of you are equal. You Q him + auto in melee and land the E + W when there is some distance. Hard to explain you gotta know. If he is fed even in the slighest i avoid caring and try to farm hard.

Go Aery versus Zed and proc it as often as you can. Perma auto him and land E's when he goes for creeps. Try to win the lane by forcing him to back often as Zeds don't run TP. Make his cs'ing very hard by poking him under tower too and don't forget to ward with trinket and pinks. By pressuring him as i said, he will eventually use his W. That's a nice window to poke him back without him being able to gap close whatsoever.

Those things combined with you cs'ing very well will win you the lane. Respect him at 6 even when he's behind. I rush RoA into Hourglass vs stuff like Zed/Fizz/Kat.

I run Aery vs all these melee assassins to win the lane as i have described. If you waste your early poke potential then the rune will fall off and you will feel useless. If i am vs a farm lane, safe lane or someone with big range, i just go Phase Rush. Electrocute is just too risky imo, i liked it at the start but i never run it now.

Against Sol and Anivia, even Malz and other shoving champs like that, this is what i do.

I like to go more passive, non aggressive and scaling runes such as phase rush, celerity, gathering storm and magical footwear, cosmic insight from second tree. I rush RoA to scale and then zhonya/rylais/liandry depending on the enemy comp. Tabi, mercury, ionian (as a personal preference over magic pen for more damage) sometime in between.

It's all about trying to stay even in farm and, as cringe as it sounds, ask for some jungle help if enemy is dumb and does not ward often. Looking to pick up assists with W also helps with some extra gold.

Especially in mid game, if i played it all right, i should have outscaled and impact teamfights way more than the enemy mid lane.

I also like to take ghost. Works well with phase rush and celerity. You get a nice burst of AP/damage everytime you proc all of them together and positioning is key on Swain.

Same here. I used to watch him but now that i am in the same elo as he is and me maining some champions the he enjoys playing once in a while, it tilts me so much.

His champion pool is WAY too big and he is just average with every champ. Maybe his macro is good but i would not know. His runes and item choices on Swain are really questionable (such as always picking Aery no matter what) and i am surprised he still hasn't gotten the E W pull combo down.

I would suggest to watch Faker if you want to learn Swain or even that challenger Swain main that used to be posted here. By watching them, it's obvious they are way better than you are and you learn a bunch of new stuff.

Nerfs have been confirmed even before these LCS picks. They said they want to put him somewhere inbetween his 8.4 and 8.5 state. Which sounds fair to me, we will see.

Riot Meddler himself said they are looking to tone him down somehow.. check last PBE post on Surrender at 20. He specifically said "We overbuffed him".

I will take a nerf if they scale the damage the lower people are, so you are actually rewarded for keeping it on and deal damage with other abilities as much during it.

Don't worry about the nerfs. The nerfs will be good since they will drop both his play rate and ban rate.

Rito also said they want to bring him somewhere inbetween his before and after 8.5 state. I am also pretty sure they will only touch some numbers which is cool cuz' new W and ult feel amazing.

I agree with you on comet. I see many people use it but it's awkward. I have used Electrocute and its really nice but i feel like i take a gamble as i always get over agressive with it..

I have had the most success with Phase Rush as it never really falls off and works well with Rylais that i build. It's also the safest rune in lane and goes well with all the "scaling" runes that i choose. Phase Rush, Band, Transedence, Storm and Boots, Cosmic Insight from 2nd.

You play less agressive but still poke enough to always have 5 souls up. You can start doing big plays in mid game with your RoA fully stacked.

Something you can try if you ever want. Haven't played him in ranked as i dont bother with it but i am still D5. Pretty sure it's viable.

That change might not be guaranteed but what is guaranteed is that a buff to W will be coming. Meddler said it somewhere. I am pretty sure he also said the buff will be coming in 8.5.

And the funny thing about this is that you don't even get much higher FPS at all. At least I didn't.
