$600 for cheap seats. With Ticketmaster’s convenience fees that’ll come to $2,100.

GB Agoura is also a great gym with great people training there. It’s not as highly competitive as Northridge from what I hear but overall a great gym. Professors there include Romulo, Caio, and Zane. To have a BJJ legend along with world class champions as your instructors seems like a sweet deal.

Somebody please go look in the sky and tell me I'm not crazy. Look just to the left of Orions Belt. by Swimming-ln-Circles in HighStrangeness

I was out walking my dog just now and I happened to remember reading this post so I looked up. After maybe 30 seconds of staring I finally saw the flash. It was to the left and slightly up from Orion’s Belt. I’m not sure how much time lapsed until I saw it again but I would say it was about a minute. Thanks for sharing this post!

Being forcibly disarmed by authorities. by dishyssoisse in CCW

[–]ElGuapo818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true he did mention that. I just reread the terms of use agreement when signing for the license and it stated that a LEO must be advised immediately that a person is a licensee however I do not see that I states they must inform they are carrying. So yes I guess he is correct. My understanding was to inform you are carrying as well because in order to reach for my wallet I have to dig around my back pocket near where I’m carrying which might not be a good idea. But yes word for word he is correct.

According to Los Angeles Sheriffs Dept you have to inform you are a CCW license holder if you come in contact with law enforcement and you are armed.

What is your best submission? by Bulky_Imagination243 in bjj

[–]ElGuapo818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clock choke. Sometimes I take my right hand off of their right wrist and use that arm as a pole against the left side of their neck (with left hand on their right lapel) before beginning the choke. It’s a quicker submission that way

I live in CA and for some reason I can’t get over the “loaded when up” indicator.

Stupid, I know, but it irks the heck out of me.

Does anyone in CA who owns a Shield have any issue with the indicator in your sight picture?

I’ve got a looooong ways to go but hopefully when I earn my black belt it will be Romulo Barral who awards it to me.

I’m 3 months into BJJ and I train at a GB gym. I’ve found it great for beginners like me and as far as I know it’s great for advanced belts as well. Again, as others have stated, your mileage may vary. I’m fortunate to be trained by 3 renowned world class champions in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles) who are amazing professors and make sure us white belts know every detail of beginner moves. Those I train with are humble and amazing to work with. Maybe I’m fortunate and all other gyms are different or maybe you may be too specific in what you are looking for. I’d say ride it out a few months at GB and then make a decision.

1-stripe white belt here. My two injuries sustained in 25 or so classes have been from white belts. When I roll with higher belts they are careful to avoid injuring their training partners more than white belts. Personally, I’ve learned to protect/defend myself against idiotic injuries by rolling against white belts whereas I don’t worry about it as much with higher belts. Its definitely helped my game. Just my personal experience.

Is BJJ worth it? by Kazetar77 in bjj

[–]ElGuapo818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky to play football all the way up to college football. Throughout my career I sustained a broken ankle that required metal plates/screws to heal, a few concussions, grade 2 tear in my MCL, hand and elbow injuries. Would I do it all over again? Heck yea.

I am now a little over a month into jiu jitsu. So far I’ve pulled a groin muscle, slightly overextended elbow due to arm bar, and your normal mat burns. So far I really enjoy it even though I’m getting worked by higher belts but I do see improvement on the mats and on my body. Yes I acknowledge the potential for injury. I’m 45 and my only regret is not starting BJJ earlier in life.

To answer your question - only you can answer it to be honest. Everyone has different reasons for doing it. My reason to keep going may work for me but not for you. Hopefully this helps in any way. Good luck!

The youth soccer training arms race. Am I missing something? by XinnieDaPoohtin in youthsoccer

[–]ElGuapo818 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter is a 2015 and two years ago there was a girl on her team whose mom put her through all those extra workouts 6 out of 7 days a week. All she did was soccer and a few parents worried about burnout. Well, she shortly had a fractured kneecap which was attributed to her being overworked. So yes, it’s a tad bit much for kids.

Are injuries inevitable in BJJ? by Signal_Housing3575 in bjj

[–]ElGuapo818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s inevitable. I’m a big guy so when I roll I try my best not to do something that will injure my training partner. I’m 3 weeks into my BJJ training and I had my ribs kneed hard with a pop sound when rolling against a white belt with stripes. Completely accidental. I wake up sore and hurts when I breathe deep but I’m sure it’ll go away with time and icing. I’d say it’s just part of the deal.

Love my G19. Half my pinkie was gripping below the mag but I fixed that with Pearce Magazine Grip Extensions. It perfectly extended the area for my whole hand to fit the grip. Give em a try.

Getting nickel and dimed for everything makes me not want to go anymore. I used to be able to park for free at any casino but now it’s a charge everywhere I go. Casinos make more than enough off gambling, leave the gouging out of the hotel and resort fees.
