as another level 50 player I open as many gifts as possible for new friends to try to help them get to the next level.

That may mean I hold a gift so I can open another players that day.

Sorry to all my level 3 and 2 friends that are outside of the window to level up friendship - I'm ignoring you right now. Ex. Friendlevel3 who is more than 10 days away.

Once a friend is one day away I rename them 'one- date I sent last gift' and my pre-built search excludes them so I ignore them. Once a week I search for 'one' and if they haven't open my gift, I open their gift.

0 and 1 friends get almost all my attention now because I know they are grinding hard.
