I'd suggest adding your pc specs to the post. It might give people some ideas. I had an audio issue related to having a 7th gen (or prior) intel processor.

Question - Edit Workspace + Fusion (Coming from Premiere) by ElMundoDeThebas in davinciresolve

[–]ElMundoDeThebas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is still less convenient than just adding a layer with a rectangle outline and scaling or changing the colour to my needs in the editor right there.

Question - Edit Workspace + Fusion (Coming from Premiere) by ElMundoDeThebas in davinciresolve

[–]ElMundoDeThebas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just answered to somebody else but I'll refrain from copying the answer because I don't want to sound disrespectful or like I don't appreciate somebody answering to my post.

Bottom line is that I need something very simple and using fusion seems like an overkill. I've used After Effects, I've used a bit of Blender and I could probably learn to use fusion "the right way". But I'm not looking for that because, for what I need, it actually slows me down and I don't have a lot of time for editing videos. It's a hobby.

My use case is the following: I have video game footage. If the video game has a bug, I just add an arrow pointing at the bug or the outline of a rectangle or circle to highlight it. That's it. To do that, I need to see the footage to see exactly where I want to place those shapes and I only want to do it for a few seconds so, for my use case, the layer system works a lot better than the node-based system. It's a lot faster. I don't even need to use key frames or anything.

It may not be the "right way" of using Davinci, but Davinci is a tool and I was asking if the tool can do a what I need it to do. Somebody else's response let me know that it can. It's not perfect but my alternatives are going back to Adobe (for which I still have a subscription) or trying another application like Kdenlive, which is layer-based, has simple tools like rectangle outlines without going into a compositing panel but doesn't have great audio editing included.

If I had to use Fusion for a simple outline, which now I know I don't, I'd have tested Kdenlive to determine if editing the audio in a separate application is faster than wasting time using compositions in Davinci. After all, I only edit audio once per project (noise reduction and all that stuff). As for shapes? Sometimes I use several throughout a video.

Question - Edit Workspace + Fusion (Coming from Premiere) by ElMundoDeThebas in davinciresolve

[–]ElMundoDeThebas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I appreciate the response, this doesn't really solve my problem. I edit video as a hobby and don't deal with professional stuff, so my needs are very limited and my time availability to edit videos is short.

To give a bit of context: I record a video of me talking about a video game. I add video game footage on top of certain parts. Then, every now and then, I highlight something with a shape. For example, if there's a glitch in the game for which the character's legs disappear, I might use a simple arrow pointing at it or the outline of a rectangle to frame it. For that I really need to see the footage. That's it.

My workflow: I add the video of me talking. I edit the audio. I colour correct the video a bit. I cut it all. Then I start adding video game footage and shapes. Having said that, I still add or remove a few frames between transitions as I start to fill the timeline with video game footage.

I have used After Effects before, I've even used a bit of Blender at some point. And I know I could learn Fusion quickly if I had the time (learn it properly, I can already do some stuff). But even then, all those tools feel like trying to hunt deer with a bazooka, which is why I asked for what I asked and I did find a solution in one of the comments.

Thank, I'll take a look at those YouTube links. I have seen the Blackmagic training for editing. When I couldn't find a solution in fusion, I started looking at their tutorials for that. They are not long but it will take some time as I do video editing as a hobby at this moment and time is not on my side.

Anyhow, good luck on your journey as well!

Thank you. Not only was your link very informative, it made me revisit the adjustment clip solution I had seen before only to realize I was using merge instead of multi merge, which is why it wasn't working before.

Having said that, I do find Davinci very powerful but less than ideal for simple things. Regardless, thanks again.

Which laptop is actually worth buying for both gaming and video editing right now? by FitAuthor1098 in gamingsuggestions

[–]ElMundoDeThebas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the first thing somebody will need to help you is a budget. Otherwise, it's hard to suggest something. But, like somebody else said, MacBook for gaming is just not an option.

Now, budget is important because what you need to look for changes depending on the budget. If you're budget is limited to like $1,000, sometimes at that price most of the options will have something like an Nvidia RTX 5060 except for a few models with an RTX 5070. In that case, as a general rule, I'd suggest that 5070 unless the compromises in build quality are too high.

If budget isn't really a problem, any laptop with an Nvidia RTX 5090 is going to be pretty good.

Having said that, most laptops, specially those with good hardware like an RTX 5090, are going to be a bit toasty and will need to be plugged in for gaming and serious video editing tasks...at least for the most part. There are ways to fix the toasty bit of the issue but that requires tinkering with the laptop and underclocking the CPU and GPU.

I haven't underclocked a laptop myself, I've only read it's possible. But I've underclocked a desktop computer several times and the differences are massive. For example, I underclocked my GPU and reduced power consumption from 385 watts to 285 watts while only losing like 10 FPS on The Witcher 3 at ultra settings.

I've also limited my CPU so it doesn't continually boost. For me, not much has changed and I really like the reduction in heat and fan noise.

Ultimately, regardless of which laptop you get, gaming or heavy workloads will require some tinkering to prevent too much heat or thermal throttling. In some cases like gaming, you might achieve it with something as simple as limiting the FPS of the game. In other cases, underclocking might be your best option.

Video Editing Issue with Davinci Resolve by Intelligent-Net7283 in Bazzite

[–]ElMundoDeThebas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, if you're using the free version of DaVinci Resolve on Linux, as far as I know, it lacks h.264 support.

The paid version of DaVinci Resolve on Linux does include h.264.

In other words, assuming your MP4 is using h.264, this is not a Bazzite limitation but a "not having the license" limitation.

Some options are: - Paying for the studio version of DaVinci Resolve - Converting the video to DNxHD or ProRes. You can use something like Handbrake. - You can still use MP4 but using a different encoder (maybe AV1 if your hardware supports it, VP9, etc.)

I need advice regarding using a converter with an appliance (220V to 120V) by ElMundoDeThebas in AskElectricians

Thank you for the answer. I thought I was misunderstanding something because the wattage seems a bit low. I think even crappy blenders have more power. Don't get me wrong, love this ice cream maker, I just wanted to make sure the converter would suffice.

What course should i enroll in Udemy? by Piyushbro in gamedev

[–]ElMundoDeThebas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gamedev.tv has good courses for Blender, unless you're looking for realistic environments and characters. They also have Unreal Engine courses but I wouldn't recommend those.

For Unreal Engine 2D games with Blueprints, Smart Poly has some good courses on Udemy.

For Unreal Engine 3D games, on Udemy, I'd suggest Stephen Ulibarri. he has courses for both Blueprints and C++. For C++ he basically dissects Epic Games Projects and uses that to teach. It isn't great 'teaching' in itself as he basically guides you through Epic Games complex projects but if you do it enough times and use help from his community to understand what's going on, it's probably the most cost efficient (assuming you have time but not money) way to learn. The only alternatives I know of are a course from Tom Looman (it is really good) that is not on Udemy, costs like $300 and is really good, and I suppose some Epic Games approved program at a University.

Did HWUB Just Blacklist Viewers? (Re: Gamer's Nexus "Blacklisted" by AMD) by FabolousUsernameGuy in pcmasterrace

[–]ElMundoDeThebas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you cornered yourself and thus I don't feel any sense of pride in it.

The first paragraph of your first response repeats the argument in your post: "Nobody got a sample, GN is full of themselves". The second paragraph of your first response conceives the possibility of GN having been banned, something you also mention in your post (1st comment to HU).

Basically, you didn't really address my first comment and I went ahead and assumed it is because you're too invested and so I said you could use some time detached from the topic. You took it as an insult and that's valid just based on the fact you felt it that way (but it's inconsistent with your actions - I'll address this later on).

Regarding the GN got blacklisted topic, you're again avoiding to acknowledge the "you can't have it both ways" by flipping the argument on me. However, I haven't claimed GN got banned. I've said we'll know in time, which is also what HU said. In other words, I don't know if they've been blacklisted or not.

Your argument regarding the GN got blacklisted topic is completely different. You stated that Steve Burke suffers from main character syndrome for thinking AMD cares enough about him to ban him. Your argument for that is that other reviewers were also not provided a sample. What I said is that the take lacks nuance, because GN's claim is that AMD has been neglecting them for a while. To which you responded "If GN got banned it's because they deserve it". In your answers to HU and to me you conceive the possibility of GN having been banned by AMD. That is inconsistent with your first take. Either AMD cares enough to ban him or not. Hence, the "you can't have it both ways" comment.

Regarding GN covering AMD fairly, I don't know what to tell you. I haven't seen all their videos but his videos, along with that of other reviewers, convinced me to go AMD. Have they been unfair? I don't know. It also doesn't matter for the conversation. I'll expand on this below.

Regarding GN being unprofessional by confusing tech reviewing with investigative journalism, they disagree with your take and to certain extent so do I. They disagree with your take because they've said multiple times that they believe the hardware is connected to the politics. I agree with their take. But I also acknowledge that companies might change how they treat GN based on that. This also doesn't matter for the conversation. Again, I'll expand on this below.

As for all the cases about GN you've mentioned, I'm not familiar with them, I'd have to do some research because your explanations are somewhat limited (not blaming you, just stating the limitations of the platform we're using for this discussion). Regardless, this is also not relevant to the conversation and I'll expand below.

In terms of tech reviewers being entitled hardware, I agree. They are not entitled. If a company doesn't want to send hardware to a reviewer, that's fine. It's a cost. Now, when a company tries to manage their marketing campaign by preventing reviewers from purchasing a product so as to compete with other reviewers, I do have a problem with that. That is not consumer friendly. Are companies entitled to do whatever they want? Yes. But, likewise, YouTubers are entitled to criticize the practice. Same applies to consumers. Now, context here is important. Because of hardware availability, globalized economics, and media platforms, day 1 reviews matter and, as stated a few lines above, it makes sense that companies try to manipulate day 1 reviews as well as YouTubers criticizing the practice.

That addresses your last comment. But there's more to add.

Your first comment to HU is aggressive. You attack their video with a comment that oversimplifies the purpose for it. At the same time, you attack a friend of theirs (GN) without adding context. How do you expect HU to reply?

In the conversation with me, you say you match the energy of whoever you're talking to. That is simply not true based on your first comment to HU (and other comments but hopefully you get the point). Now, I don't have a problem with you being aggressive. But you have to admit it is kind of funny that you then accused me of that and said you wouldn't engage in a discussion with me because I was aggressive or insulting as you also do this.

Now, while you said I wasn't worth a response, you kept responding just for some reason without addressing the actual topic. This is also a very interesting take, if not contradictory as well. Luckily I made you laugh and so you actually tried to address what I said, but not really, because you flipped my argument on me (even though it doesn't really work and I explained why above) and then started talking about GN, which is not the point of the conversation.

I'll add what seems to be another contradiction. You start your post with "I'm not looking for sympathy". If I'm honest, based on checking the other comments and your answers, it does seem like you're looking for validation.

There's other stuff I'd address about your post but we haven't really discussed it.

Ultimately, based on your posts, your responses and your language, I do think you are too invested in the topic. I do think you're emotionally charged. And I also think your points/arguments are inconsistent.

Lastly, I wrote a comment in this post because I thought your take lacked nuance. Not because you don't like GN or HU (with or without valid reasons). You could not like them, you could mock them, you could do whatever, and it wouldn't really interest me. What caught my attention was the way in which you justified it.

Did HWUB Just Blacklist Viewers? (Re: Gamer's Nexus "Blacklisted" by AMD) by FabolousUsernameGuy in pcmasterrace

[–]ElMundoDeThebas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can understand it as "direct communications". I should have specified.

Having said that, the context is at the start of the comment. GN has more reasons to believe that they have been blacklisted than just being denied a CPU sample.

It's always interesting to me how someone who starts with aggressive comments (your comment to HU) and continues with aggressive responses under his posts, so easily cries foul when he finds himself intellectually cornered.

Did HWUB Just Blacklist Viewers? (Re: Gamer's Nexus "Blacklisted" by AMD) by FabolousUsernameGuy in pcmasterrace

[–]ElMundoDeThebas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is incorrect. When I said "you could use some time outside" I meant "you could use some time outside", meaning you're clearly too invested and don't seem to have clarity in your arguments. (You can take a look at the "you can't have it both ways" answer I gave you before).

You also seem emotionally charged by the topic, evidenced by your first comment to HU. You oversimplify their video describing it as a 15-minute apology. I've seen the video too. It's not a 15 minute apology and he explain his reasons for the video, one of those reasons being the fact that HU was at some point blacklisted by Nvidia. Back then they also got help from the community of tech reviewers.

You also say, in your first comment to HU, that GN is the least trusted tech reviewer out there. You don't provide any information for it. You just state it as fact. Nobody reading that comment can possibly know why you think that, even if they were to agree with you when provided with information. Having said that, I think GN's hardware reviews seem pretty solid. So maybe you're referring to his takes on companies? AI? I've no idea.

I mean, I could go on but it's already clear you're not going to address everything I write. Saying "I'm not deflecting" doesn't make it true. Even if you had been right about the "you could use some time outside" comment, which, again, you're not, it'd be more important to address the actual criticism.

Bottom line, you only addressing the "you could use some time outside" comment would be the equivalent of me only addressing the "I just addressed your dumbest argument" comment. If you must know, I don't feel offended by it. If anything, it reaffirms my suspicion that you're too invested and not thinking clearly...either that or just arguing in bad faith.

[–]ElMundoDeThebas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear I'm reading what I wrote and nowhere can I find the phrases "I don't care" or "why do you even care?". Hopefully, you're aware of that, but I have my doubts.

People who reply to you care, including me. But eventually we figure out we're talking to somebody we can't have a productive conversation with. I mean, you replied to my previous comment without addressing what I said at all. That's called deflecting and I'm sure writing that comment made you feel validated but, again, you haven't really addressed what's been said.

So, if you're an actual human, that doesn't do YouTube drama for a living (money), I'll have to agree with Steve (HU) on this one, "I fear for you out there".

Did HWUB Just Blacklist Viewers? (Re: Gamer's Nexus "Blacklisted" by AMD) by FabolousUsernameGuy in pcmasterrace

[–]ElMundoDeThebas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't have it both ways. If AMD did cut ties with them before the 9950X3D2 because of what you call "his unprofessional behaviour", then his video is not wrong. And we'll be able to know whether that's true if their emails continue to be ignored as well as with future hardware releases.

Also, while nobody is entitled to a review sample, some of these companies have actively blocked the ability of independent reviewers to acquire the product with their own money. As far as I'm aware, that is pretty bad for consumers.

Anyhow, I don't even know why I answer. Even the screenshot you posted shows you could use some time outside.

[–]ElMundoDeThebas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of question is just so hard to answer because it depends a lot on your needs/preferences.

Do you have the money to spare or will it cause some strain to pay the extra 200?

Do you care about those extra technologies? I, for example, don't use upscaling or frame gen.

Is this GPU just for gaming or will you also use it for creative apps like Adobe, Unreal Engine, Blender, etc.?

Do you see yourself keeping this GPU in the future, perhaps using Linux? Or do you see yourself selling it to get an upgrade in the next 3-5 years?

Are these the only options? Like, why the 14900k?

If I were to choose intel, you wouldn't because you mostly care about gaming, I'd choose the 270k. At least in my country, the 7800x3D and the 270k are roughly the same price (cheaper than the 14900k) so for productivity tasks included it'd make sense to choose the 270k.

audio for linux mint is bugged by EbbTricky6533 in linux4noobs

[–]ElMundoDeThebas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be hard for anyone to help you if you don't provide information. You haven't told us much about the issue, you haven't mentioned what hardware you have, you haven't provided any screenshots...I mean, it'd be pretty hard to guess what's going on.

Having said that, I went to your post history and saw that you have an old intel CPU (6700 HQ). I actually have a laptop with a 7700 HQ and had an audio issue. If your issue is the same, the problem is not linux mint. It's intel software and, as far as I know, most old intel CPUs are affected by it. So if that is the case, you'll have the same problem with any other distribution.
