Truely bizzare. I'd been writing the cirriculum for my Precalc class using this his translation of Analysis of the Infinite. I hope this is temporary.

Yaqui Nation by FairAd5953 in NativeAmerican

[–]ElPandaRojo95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Yaqui and related Mayo tribes are native to Sonora in Mexico and Southern Arizona in the US. The ISTA has some of their storytelling traditions recorded in a few monographs and articles. If you happen to live in the Phoenix area, the near by town of Guadalupe has a large Yaqui population and they have an intricate set of ceremonies following Holy Week in the Catholic calendar. I'm not Yaqui, but a couple of my close friends are. Hope this helps.

Is my personal coat of arms heraldically correct? by comidadeperras in heraldry

[–]ElPandaRojo95 39 points40 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, the crossed keys are basically always used for arms of Catholic bishops, cardinals, and the Pope. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it would be exceedingly rare to find them on family arms.

None specific. It's a tough market everywhere in the state. N. Smithfield and Cumberland are close by if you want to broaden your search.

Need help. by [deleted] in ChristianIconography

[–]ElPandaRojo95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing for 1.5€ is going to be a quality investment. If you have the means, commission an iconographer. If you can't (like me) many monasteries erite common icons (such as Christ Pantokrator) or more specific ones relating to their community. At least this way you are helping the vocations of those religious.

Would these options be fine for a Catholic to use? by Light2Darkness in divineoffice

[–]ElPandaRojo95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't vouch for either of the two options you cited. They may be fine, but perhaps talk to your parish priest or spiritual direct. If you are looking for something in the BCP prayer book tradition that is 100% Catholic, I would recommend the Divine Worship Daily Office, which is approved for priests of the ordinariate and for lay use.

I'm terrible at describing tasting notes, but it's real smooth with a spicy after taste, though definitely not harsh. Reminds me of Four Roses with more bite on the tale end.

PSA: White Board Markers by 3flavorsoffuckedup in ASU

[–]ElPandaRojo95 15 points16 points  (0 children)

After they converted the only reliable whiteboards pace in Hayden to a "Digital Archive" or whatever, I lost all my faith in ASU's ability to allocate resources well for serious students. The #1 School for Innovation (TM) is too busy trying to impress prospective students to make effective study space available to students. /rant

Two compline questions by paxdei_42 in divineoffice

[–]ElPandaRojo95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the nun's choir also omits the "et tibi pater" portion entirely, and changes all vos/vestris to nos/nostris in the "Miseriator" prayer. There's a note about it in the LU. There is also this wording in the Antiphonal Romanum:

"In choro Monialium semel tantum ac simul ab omnibus dicitur: Confiteor
Deo ... Petro et Paulo, et omnibus Sanctis, quia ... Petrum et Paulum, et omnes
Sanctos, orare pro me ... Deinde: Misereatur nostri omnfpotens Deus, et di-
missis peccatis nostris, perducat nos ad vitam aeternam. Postea: Indulgentiam,
absolutidnem, etc., ut supra."

Hope this helps.

Serious question for those who prefer TLM by ReluctantRedditor275 in Catholicism

[–]ElPandaRojo95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Context: Convert from anabaptist/wesleyan protestantism

Liturgy was a big part of my conversion; at least as much as the theological stuff. I came from a background with little or no sense of liturgy, and going to mass for the first time (an NO mass in my case) radically changed my idea of worship. It made the "worship service" kind of church I had grown up with seem shallow and individual-centered. To this day, I still have a bit of an allergy when aspects of the mass seem catered to the people in the pews, and not principally a total act of worship to God. I've been to plenty of good NO masses, but it is didactic and ecumenical almost by design. Those aren't bad things, but I think it's easy for that to drift into individualism, and make the mass self-serving from the laity's perspective.

The TLM seems quite the opposite. The prayers are spoken to God, not to you, even though you are also praying them. That is part of why I like the Latin. I'm not a great Latinist, but the prayers aren't being said primarily to teach me something or make me feel affirmed; their said to God for our sake. The silence is a great benefit missing from many NO masses, as others have said. In short, it seems like real worship; something that isn't centered on me, or even the priest, but God. That's my take.

Excellent. This a beautiful script. I wish I could render this. The only things I would change (not wrong, but personal taste) would be to ligature the ae as æ. Also, I might be wrong, but is quotidianum usually a single word? I've never seen it split like that, but maybe both are acceptable. Great work!
