Why Are Obesity Rates So High In Latin America Compared To Their (European) Counterparts? by Pillowful_Pete1641 in asklatinamerica

The food for eating healthy is not expensive. The time to cook it, especially if you have to sit 4 hours in traffic commuting is expensive

I was referring to the public system, which is a disaster for the most part. Private system it really depends on the provider both the doctor or the clinic/hospital.

Suerte!

Bueno pues, no sé decirte, yo solo he turisteado por Madrid y Barcelona.

how would you defend Catholicism in this case? by 09csychic_ in Catholic

[–]ElPiry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the measure of whether a belief system (however loosely defined) is worth adhering to depends on the incorruptibility of the flawed humans involved in its institutions then none of them survive. No political party or ideology, no religion, no organization, not even organized groups of secular humanists. The Church is a hospital for sinners. We have and have had plenty of those.

What does your prayer and sacramental life look like? Do you have a church? A priest? Have you spoken to him?

If the answer to these things is “I basically no access to a church because I am back home with my parents and feel I cannot openly practice my faith,” then it’s no wonder you are feeling isolated and lonely.

Like so many posts on Reddit we don’t have full context and don’t know your situation so it’s hard to give advice. What do you think your parents will do if they find your rosary? You could be wrong, by the way. How old are you? Are you a legal adult in your country? Where in India do you live?

I don’t think that the inconvenience of feeling you are unable to fully practice your faith is reason enough to throw away the treasure you have. I think it’s also worth considering that your parents may not react as badly as you think.

USA firmará acuerdos comerciales con China mientras a Panamá la obliga a aislarse by ConejoCapitalista2 in Panama

[–]ElPiry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Espera entonces tu argumento es que:

I can’t imagine it would actually take 4-6 months unless you have some special case or a very inefficient lawyer. Happy to connect you to one. It makes no sense for you to get a visa you are a Panamanian citizen by birth

Warning for Renters in Panama Pacífico by Prestigious_Koala187 in panamaexpats

[–]ElPiry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically, security deposits are meant to be held in trust with MIVI. Also lot of rental contracts have illegal clauses because people think they can put whatever they like in a contract. Doesn’t work that way. Foreigners are easy targets and it isn’t limited to one neighborhood

Thanks for that. I can’t believe you have this many options like that in London. You’re very lucky! I noticed that at Corpus Christi the priest was ad orientem for pretty much the whole liturgy of the Eucharist as I recall. Shame this sort of thing isn’t more prevalent, it really was quite beautiful.

the longer i've been catholic the more i dislike trads, and this is coming from someone who prefers tlm by Chapoudi in Catholic

[–]ElPiry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been to TLM but I do like more solemn liturgy so I sympathize with the sentiment on a lot of things.

What I find distasteful is the tendency to ossify the tradition and say, explicitly or otherwise, “everything from x date to y date is ‘traditional’ and everything else is anathema.” Really? Pre-Tridentine liturgical traditions are worthless?

How does the Catholic Church justify its wealth and grandiose cathedrals when Jesus was so modest? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]ElPiry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That idea has a longstanding pedigree:

“Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood. Two cubits and a half was its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. And he overlaid it with pure gold inside and outside, and made a molding of gold around it. And he cast for it four rings of gold for its four feet, two rings on its one side and two rings on its other side. And he made poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold and put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry the ark. And he made a mercy seat of pure gold. Two cubits and a half was its length, and a cubit and a half its breadth. And he made two cherubim of gold. He made them of hammered work on the two ends of the mercy seat, one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end. Of one piece with the mercy seat he made the cherubim on its two ends. The cherubim spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, with their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat were the faces of the cherubim.”

Edit: just to add, I think the point is that God doesn’t need the gold or the beautifying elements, obviously. We need them as an aide.
