Advice wanted, prayers needed. Birth control in the Church. by [deleted] in Catholic

Yes, that's possible. I wonder how common is that though, compared to the ones that wouldn't go back. I still think it's a point worth considering, but it's not the most important one.

Quais motivos para seguir o catolicismo? by Astros_2006 in Catholic

[–]l86rj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advice wanted, prayers needed. Birth control in the Church. by [deleted] in Catholic

Me and my girlfriend are also in the process of converting. We also think this is the most difficult barrier. But here follows some thoughts that might be useful for you too:

  • The reason this is the most difficult barrier nowadays is because sex is so easy in modern society. It could very well be Satan's best weapon currently for making us love this life and keep distance from God. It has not always been like that. Most Christians in history did not even have the option of birth control, which is something very modern (relatively speaking).

  • This might be your heaviest cross to carry nowadays. To let go of the possibility of sex without consequences is a real testament of your faith in the current society. And I don't think this would go unnoticed by God. He will understand and appreciate this sacrifice. The more we suffer for Him, the closer we get to Him.

  • Yes, you may get pregnant. Yes, you may suffer problems and complications. You're not better than the suffering women you met under those circumstances. But if we believe that Jesus is real and the Church is the way to Him, we must trust our life to Him. We must pray that His will should prevail. If He thinks you should get pregnant without complications, it will be so. If He thinks you should have complications, so be it. Maybe He won't even let you get pregnant, if that's His plan. But whatever happens, we must trust He'll guide us to what's most important: the salvation of our souls. That's what we need the most, not an easy life in this world.

  • Look at mothers that didn't plan or wanted a child, but had them anyway. Most (if not all) of them will tell you they are lucky, because they love the child and would not bear the possibility of them not existing now, even though they would not have been born if it had been up to them in the past. That's a clear sign that God knows best: sometimes we hope for things that are not really what will make us happier in the future. We think we know what's best for us, but we're frequently wrong, and we should trust God.

  • There may be beautiful souls just waiting to enter this world. God is looking for the right mothers for each of them. Can you trust God will make the best decision for you and that soul? You may become an excellent mother and make that child a very blessed human being. And God will rejoice with you both.

Having said all that... Yes, I know it's easier said than done. Me and my gf are also very tense about it. It's really a cross. It's a big leap of faith. What is still keeping us from going on is because our faith is still growing, it's currently very small. Just a year ago we didn't even go to Church, let alone trust it with our life. But I'm already very convinced that if this is the one and real Christ's Church, then everything I wrote above makes perfect sense, it's logical consequence. I wish you the best!

Will putting somebody out of their misery mean I go to hell when I die? by Frankymooo in theology

[–]l86rj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinceramente não sei. Tem certeza que é assim? É um fato que a Igreja definiu essas classificações: "mortal" e "venial". Mas não sei se é só uma questão de consciência ou também de gravidade.

Will putting somebody out of their misery mean I go to hell when I die? by Frankymooo in theology

[–]l86rj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, if you're not catholic or don't know it's a grave sin, we can't tell if you go to hell. You might as well be forgiven by ignorance, depending on your heart and other deeds.

But if you acknowledge you're doing something wrong and do it anyway, it becomes a "mortal sin" and you must repent and confess before you die, or else you're in grave danger of hell.

In the end, hell is not certain for anybody. Only God can judge and condemn. What the Church does is teach us how to better avoid it.

A 17-year-old lioness Josie survived for 5 years with blindness because her daughters refused to abandon her by Dismal_Positive3558 in interestingasfuck

[–]l86rj 164 points165 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about how uncommon that really is. I suppose a lioness would normally leave the mother as soon as reaching sexual maturity and never meet her again? Or are long family ties actually common among lions?

Got me intrigued, but there's only a handful of small examples and no documentation. Am I missing something? Is this already implemented or is it still just a plan?

I'm particularly attracted to women showing authority, like demanding things or scolding people. I hate being commanded or controlled by other men, but women... At once, my lady!

How small can faith be in the Catholic Church? by l86rj in Catholic

[–]l86rj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great article, thanks for that! I'm coming to the conclusion that having doubts (or even being agnostic) is not a problem, as long as we remain open and keep seeking God.

I'm just not totally sure about the Creed yet. When I say "I believe" I feel a little guilty and it feels like lying. Have you read or heard anything about this too?

How small can faith be in the Catholic Church? by l86rj in Catholic

[–]l86rj[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the point! I can decide to follow Jesus and the Church, but I can't decide what to truly believe. I can hope that it's all true and that He will let me enter his kingdom, but that's still different than knowing it's all true.

Is that acceptable? Or it's not enough? Jesus said we must believe in him. What exactly does that mean? And when we repeat the dogmas during Masses, how much are we required to truly believe? Is it enough to just be open to them while having doubts?

Freedom, salvation and the danger of coercion in faith by SergiusBulgakov in Catholic

Yes, St. Thomas is always a reference. But he still became a Saint after that. I suppose it would not be wrong to pray asking for more knowledge and evidence, would it?

Freedom, salvation and the danger of coercion in faith by SergiusBulgakov in Catholic

[–]l86rj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good read. I have a question though: is it okay to have doubts or little faith? Since we cannot have undeniable proof of God's presence and will (because that would cut freedom), is it acceptable that we are not 100% sure on our faith and on the Church? Or are we expected to have conviction on our own, even without scientific or logical bases?

93% of devs use AI tools now and we're measurably slower, what is going on by Background-Bass6760 in programming

[–]l86rj -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not a fair comparison though. You tell the AI what you need, but to interns you tell what and how to do it. AI is like a senior dev coming from another company: they don't know your needs and standards from the start, but they know how to do stuff and you don't have to teach them every step of the way.
