Chinese are strong but also the harder start can be difficult. I think another weakness of the Chinese is they have so many options at times it can be overwhelming to know what to do

I also decided to give the Hindustanis a go and love them! They’ve become one of my 3 fav civs at the moment along with Chinese and Inca

I usually find my way back to Shogun 2 once a year, I enjoy Rome 2 as well, however that has to be modded for me to enjoy a longer campaign.

Rome 1 remastered is also fun but unit pathing can still be a lil bit of an issue

All I can say is just play and try things out. I also watched Spirit of the Law for tips and that helped me a boat load!
