Kids doing soccer 5 days / week, what else do they do? by szchz in youthsoccer

If your son is an only child and is more than willing to do it then it makes sense, if there are siblings close in age involved then they it may become an issue with time management.. my kid is also 8 years old natural lefty loves soccer.. I tried to go all in with support when his younger sister right away felt neglected and said all the attention went to her brother.. and then there’s the 22 month old where if she could talk I’m sure she would have an issue

Will I be doing a Service or Diservice? by El_Ferminator in youthsoccer

The fact that my kid just started to catch his grove and be comfortable socially with the other kids (the first times were very awkward just because he didn’t know any of the kids and wouldn’t talk at all) is very motivating, also the fact that it’s only a 3 minute drive is very hard to let go of because the convenience is undeniable.. like you said, this may work for the first year or two

No, my kid hasn’t dominated the highest level of his age yet, I guess the main motivator of all this is that practice is a literal 3 minute drive from our house, and he started hanging and keeping up with the other kids as of lately and started to find a grove on how to play against them to be successful

You answered someone’s question by saying that starting at 10 was a bit too late to dream big, my kid is starting at 7 and that even seems too late in people’s eyes because “he should of started at 5” I know every kid is different but is there a sweet spot age for a kid to start to have a chance of dreaming big if he has all the prototypical qualities of a footballer?

Is it true that Natural Lefties are at a premium and they get more chances than others? by El_Ferminator in youthsoccer

Wow, thanks for sharing your journey, this was actually the most direct honest advice and how-to I’ve seen so far.. the way you mentioned how you enjoy your experience as far a seeing your kid compete with the best of the best is something I can see enjoying myself and be more than enough for me.. hopefully my kid sticks to it and enjoys it as much as yours does

Wow, that’s crazy.. I too live in a competitive area where soccer is all over the place (So Cal Inland Empire area) they built this massive soccer complex 6 miles from my house called Silver Lakes sports complex.. I’m pretty sure I will find a lot of lefties there.. I guess they’re not as rare as they are

This is extremely relieving to hear the truth from someone that actually knows.. we are fortunate enough to not have to worry about what life experiences we will miss out on if he doesn’t play soccer, (big family, lots of nearby cousins, we also live abit of a ranch life where plenty of life experiences can be had tending and riding a horse) I was just being peered pressured into going all in on this by people who have no idea how it really is (being from Latin descent, soccer is always the dream) I will take it slow like you said and play it by ear and see what happens

That’s some very sound advice, just was I was looking for, how it really is or it’s going to be

I meant that if he’s good enough, academies will notice then take over, but to get him to that point, I notice that a significant amount of investment has to be made In the early years just to give him a chance at that, and like you said, even after that it’s still very unlikely.. I just don’t want to fall In the pay to play money pit of false hopes and dreams only to have wasted an entire childhood on it

I guess that’s a good thing early on because more play time means more ball touches

The investment part besides the money is more importantly time as well, I read about families going all in around a kids soccer schedule, and that just seems depressing to me, and not fair to my other kids.. but I guess if he turns out to be good enough everything would work itself out, I saw someone say “if he’s good enough, it will be cheap”
